It's hard to pinpoint when it started, this additional level to their interactions that Katsuki is noticing now, the slight tension that's more than rivalry or friendship. But the truth is there's something there.
He can feel it in the way Izuku goes tense when he puts his hand on his belly and his face into his neck for warmth, the way Izuku heats up even more when he does it. Katsuki doesn't have to lift his head to know the other boy is blushing now. Katsuki is too busy inhaling the scent of Izuku's skin and hair, eyes sinking shut as Izuku's other arm wraps around him too, and his hand cradles the back of Katsuki's head.
It's been a long, long time since he was held like this, the last time he can think of was when he was a child and his mother held him. This is entirely different than that - he can feel the muscle on Izuku's arms and chest, can smell the familiar scent of him, and...it's different. New. Exciting. He can feel the energy pulsing through his body, tingling almost.
"I'm not going to sleep, dumbass." he says, his voice rough, throaty, and he's starting to realize what's going on here, it's creeping into his consciousness. He likes this. Likes Izuku. There's no way he could be falling asleep right now.
Instead, he takes a sharp, shaky breath and swallows hard, trying to figure out what to do with this new information. For one impulsive moment, he considers pushing Izuku down and kissing him, but he restrains himself. He's not ready for that.
At least the shivering is passing, the warmth from Izuku's body sinking into him, and he curls his fingers against the other boy's belly, gathering up a little handful of the fabric of his T-shirt.
