cw for reference to suicidal ideation

[True to his word, he takes the mangled figure gently, delicately even, setting it down on the table next to the daybed where his as-yet-untouched tea still sits.]

Mm. I suppose one could say that's an upside of being stranded here, no? We certainly have an abundance of time.

[Someone who isn't Dazai, perhaps, but even he isn't unaware of the implications of their situation, if he changes the angle he looks at the situation from. It isn't even necessarily dissimilar to the way in which the Agency conducts its entrance exams, on a broader, cosmic scale. He cannot say that if he had the capability, he wouldn't set up something similar in order to see to it that the most beneficial outcomes were produced. The thought has struck him, speaking with Eddie, that Etraya seems to run entirely on an incentive system, running counter to the entire premise that their worlds will be destroyed if they are judged unworthy. What if none of their worlds are in danger at all? What if there is something else Echo and Aurora seek from running these tests on them?

He doesn't like it, being unable to get a read on their motivations and adjust his plans and approach to things accordingly. It's like a too-small sweater, a cat being petted backward. And he simply cannot forgive what happened at midnight on Halloween. But he can recognize all the same that there is value in what's happening here, even if he ultimately seeks to undermine and overturn it.]

It's alright if you don't, though, you know. Feel okay. Living is ... the most painful thing a person can do, I think.

[It's why ending that pain is always at the forefront of his mind. He finds excuses to put it off, little things that are never a reason to live but one not to die just yet, but it's always been a comfort to know he could escape, if it ever became too much. That's another thing he resents Echo for -- the very real possibility that he's had that taken from him, too.]

That's why something like a pastry ... I wouldn't deny it to my worst enemy.
