[Were Barnabas a man who cared about petty things like disrespect and ego, he might have had a more violent reaction to Vincent's manner. In truth, such perfunctory things like politeness were as meaningless as near all other social customs made by man. There to simply comfort the fragile and weak, to allow them some delusion of superiority when they held none.
It is no question between them that Barnabas could unmake Vincent in an instant, for just as easily had he spared the man from the jaws of the behemoth. Yet, Vincent does not bow nor grovel, he does not hold back his thoughts nor criticisms for fear of death. Is it arrogance or apathy that spurs him thus?
