DECEMBER MINGLE

WHO: Everyone!
WHEN: December 21st - Early January
WHERE: Etraya
WHAT: Newcomers, a surprise gift from Tatianna, and a visitor!
NOTES\WARNINGS:

⏵ arrival ⏴

Welcome to Etraya!

Arrival goes as expected - characters awaken on hospital beds and are offered an explanation of their situation: that they have arrived in the city of Etraya, and they are their world's only hope. They are welcome to wander the hospital if they would like to - the upper floors are mostly empty, full of pristine hallways and numerous rooms filled with supplies, cots, and things one would expect from a relatively average 21st-century hospital.

The lobby is filled to the brim with tables of freshly baked goods. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" banners are taped to the walls, and several other typical birthday decorations can be found in this area. A few of the baked goods tables are lined with massive cakes covered in unlit candles, just waiting for someone to grab a lighter and sing off-key. Is it anyone's birthday? Who knows! The companion bots seem to believe it's every new arrival's birthday and will greet them as such - with friendly waves and cheers as they make their way to the lobby.

A coat rack is situated by the doors leading out of the hospital, covered in warm clothing that fits the new arrivals just right - whether it's to their preferred style or not is something else entirely. Some of them appear normal enough. Others? Well. They can't all be perfect, now can they?

Outside the windows, the grass is covered in a couple of inches of loosely packed snow.

We hope you enjoy your stay.

⏵ an unexpected gift ⏴

Out by the hospital stands a tall, decorated tree covered in candles and golden pinecones with a handsome, red velveteen tree skirt. In front of it are a few oversized wrapped gifts for show- and atop one of those sits a familiar woman. Or unfamiliar, if this is your first time.

It's Tatianna in a slutty Santa outfit with a big ol’ burlap sack.

“Hey, I got something for you,” she says, digging into the bag and rummaging for a moment.

She produces a painted egg and holds it aloft.

“It’s your Winter Solstice Egg! This is the egg holiday, right? Wait, shit. I’m mixing them up, aren’t I? ...Well. It’s a little late to change it. Here you go!”

How one treats their egg is fully up to themselves. They can choose to ignore it entirely, or destroy it and leave the yolk and innards to rot on the ground. They can hand it over to someone else or care for it as if it were something precious. No one will prevent them from doing whatever they please with it!

⏵ naughty or nice ⏴
However, how they treat the egg will define how the egg treats them in return.

Those who keep the egg and tend to it will get the benefit of being able to watch it hatch seven days after they are handed the egg. Eggs that are treated with attention and love may yield a loyal companion, or a weapon of choice that always returns to its owner, while neglected eggs may yield a curious, cursed trinket or an animal who treats its new owner very much the same way its owner had treated it before it was born.

Please submit an egg request below for what items you would like your character's eggs to hatch into! Please note that these cannot be things that would be applicable in the game.

Those whose eggs are destroyed or forgotten will simply get the gift of... nothing!

⏵ free your spirit ⏴

With the winter chill gripping the air, a mysterious figure makes their presence known in Etraya - a towering, horned creature dragging a massive sack behind them.

𝓐 𝖍𝖔𝖚𝖘𝖊 𝖇𝖚𝖎𝖑𝖙 𝖔𝖓 𝖑𝖎𝖊𝖘 𝖍𝖆𝖘 𝖆 𝖜𝖊𝖆𝓴 𝖋𝖔𝖚𝖓𝖉𝖆𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓.

Regardless of a character's strengths or weaknesses, they will find that when Krampus raises his massive sack over their head, they are powerless to stop him from catching them. Those capable of great magical feats or other supernatural abilities will sense something... otherworldly about Krampus, but will not be able to place the source of that sensation.

Once within Krampus' sack, they are welcome to fight, but escape is impossible. It will feel as if Krampus is dragging them over every rock possible, dragging the sack in through the rivers to the point it soaks through and drenches them - potentially almost drowning them.

When the sack opens, they will find themselves in an impossibly dark space. Around them are others who have also been captured and dragged here by Krampus, trapped in small cages hanging from a massive, wiry tree.

Krampus will return often, banging clawed hands and birch rods on the walls of the cages and knocking them into one another.
𝕮𝖔𝖓𝖋𝖊𝖘𝖘𝖘𝖘𝖘𝖘𝖘.

The whisper resonates through the darkened area, regardless of Krampus' presence. Confess your secrets, and be freed. Otherwise? You'd better hope someone figures out where Krampus has set up base; those who refuse to confess may find themselves stuck here forever.

⏵ NOTES ⏴

Krampus' base is under Etraya! Deep within the catacombs, he has set up multiple cages to capture those who inhabit Etraya to punish them for their naughty habits. Fighting him is possible! Defeating him by means of combat is not, however, possible. Think of it like fighting a god: Krampus creates the rules in the space around him, including who can use what ability.

Another small pause as Jason considers how to phrase his next question.

“How’d he even come into your life?” He says.

To be one of Batman’s protégés, meant there was a special story or motivation the kid had. It’s not normal to decide to wear a costume and fight crime.

[ Sevika doesn't react to the mention of scarring. Oh, she knows what he's looking at. She just doesn't care. They're battle scars, same as all her others, and there isn't a single one that she's ashamed of. ]

That's all true.

[ And it gives her a baseline to build off of. ]

But you're missing the other pieces. It's a power source. Chemtech can run off of it efficiently. It can offer huge power boosts to machinery when needed. My old arm was designed around using it.

[ Which explains why her scarring is only on that left side. ]

It's also medicine.

[ Which she feels will be the big one Jayce won't be willing to accept. ]

It has regenerative properties even at the safest dosage. Break a bone? Shimmer. Recovering from a factory injury? Shimmer. Managing an illness? Believe it or not, shimmer. It won't cure anything terminal, but it'll sure make your life easier. Shimmer's saved plenty of lives in the trenches, and it's a good deal cheaper and easier to get than hauling yourself off topside and hoping you'll find a doctor willing to treat you.

And that makes it worth it? The stress and pressures it puts on a body isn’t healthy or sustainable. I understand using it for machinery-

[Even Viktor thought Jinx’s Chemtech work was “inspired.”]

-but the side effects of shimmer on people hasn’t been researched or studied, it could span to more than just the obvious. There has to be a cost to something that works that well. Shortened lifespans, birth defects, compromised immune systems…

[It’s a weak argument on his behalf, and he knows it. He’s not that kind of scientist, biology has never been his thing, and he’s never exactly expressed concerns about Zaunites healthcare system. He leans his head into his hands, both palms covering his eyes as he sighs long and loud.]

Counterargument: Zaunites already suffer from those conditions regardless of shimmer use, the risk of addiction and deformation worth it if it means you get to fight another day, and there’s no "easy to afford or access" solution from Piltover because healthcare isn’t a profitable sector unless you’re gouging your clients.

[He’s still leaning into his hands miserably as he adds:]

Am I missing anything?

Mhmm-hmm.

[ His eyes narrow. ]

Don't think it believes you, buddy.

Was a thing. Historically.

[ Not anymore, though. He takes another swig, hissing at the taste. Yay, booze. ]

Then one got blown up and people thought, yeah, probably shouldn't.

Not a one, [ he replies flatly. This isn't a secret. ] You do?

"His father was murdered. So he stole the suit."

Because Bruce refused to help him. At least in the way Terry had wanted. The police would have been better suited than Bruce such as he was. It's the finer details Bruce leaves out, for brevity's sake, he'll tell himself.
knightowl: (020)

that first song is a bop tho lol

[personal profile] knightowl 2025-01-08 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
That's a vague answer. Bruce wonders why Sevika would choose not to specify a name. He imagines they're likely not from the same universe. Or if they are, she's very much from a different planet. So why the evasiveness? Not that Bruce has been terribly forthcoming with information either (he did just refuse to confirm his age). But it's different when Bruce is cagey. When others do it, it just makes him curious.

"Was it built that way? Or did something happen to cause it?"

leastdramatic: (Warmed up)

[personal profile] leastdramatic 2025-01-08 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh that feels very typical for any kid of Bruce's. Even right down to the sense of correcting an injustice.

"He ever get the guy?"

[personal profile] clavesregni 2025-01-08 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
[She frowns, contemplating the unpleasantness of that, of not having a proper place to call home, and hugs her egg a little closer.]

At least there are warm places to live here.

[She pauses, a little awkwardly.]

Have you got any other information on caring for an egg? Do I just take it home with me and... keep it wrapped up? Should I light a fire, perhaps, and keep it near the fire? Or would that be too warm? [A terrible thought occurs to her.] I'm not meant to sit on it until it hatches, am I?
clavesregni: (107 03 01)

[personal profile] clavesregni 2025-01-08 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
[That Sevika has no real idea what's going on in Jinx's head doesn't surprise Caitlyn either. The girl truly is mad.

She glances once more at their surroundings, trying and failing to pierce the darkness, but there's nothing in particular to see. And another rattle of her cage door accomplishes nothing.]

I don't suppose that confession of yours had any effect? [Her eyes flick to the door of Sevika's cage.]
knightowl: (002)

[personal profile] knightowl 2025-01-08 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
If you count drowning his henchman and turning him into a radioactive skeleton 'getting' him. He did a pretty good job in Bruce's opinion.

"He did. I asked him if he wanted the job and he agreed."
leastdramatic: (Kind of)

[personal profile] leastdramatic 2025-01-08 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
That makes it even more interesting to Jason. Terry already took care of his vendetta and still wanted to keep going? It says a lot about how much Terry cares about being a Gotham protector.

"He's gonna come back," Jason says confidently. "He's been at the job long enough that he's not gonna stay away for long. It's what any of us would've done."
ascarylady: (102;)

[personal profile] ascarylady 2025-01-08 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Ha, if that's what ends up being the deciding factor? Pretty sure mine is doomed. I can clock maybe one person from Runeterra who one hundred percent manages to pamper the egg and it's the cop.
knightowl: (004)

[personal profile] knightowl 2025-01-08 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
That's the problem. Bruce didn't really doubt Terry would come back, especially with Bruce's disappearance. He didn't want Terry to face the Joker and he especially did not want him to do so alone. If he had to fight him, Bruce would have felt better with being his eyes and ears.

He doesn't say anything to that. "Try your door. I'll try mine."
ascarylady: (115;)

[personal profile] ascarylady 2025-01-08 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
[ Did it? Time to find out. There's the resounding clunk of the metal door being kicked hard, followed by a rattle. ]

Hm.

[ Another kick, harder this time, but there's no telltale creak of it opening or being forced open. Well then. ]

It gave a little this time but still won't open.
zauneyete: (pic#17558902)

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-01-08 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Hm.

[ He rolled his eyes. ]

That's impossible for it to just change. Are you sure I wasn't describing wrong kind of lock?

[ No, Silco... You're just not used to magic bullshit because you're the most normie guy ever.

Well. Except for the glowing eye. Whatever.
]

Flat metal is different. It's still a padlock, isn't it? You're going to need to change where the tension comes from if it's levers now. [ Tired. So tired. Why can't anything be simple? ]

What you do is put your tension rod into the side where the padlock closes. Slip it in and feel for the tension. That's how you're going to trigger the opening. Then you're going to use your pick [ magic, whatever. ] You're going to do something similar. Feel for when the different sheets lift and hold, and then move to the next, same thing as the pins. Just with a different method.

[ He sounds so... bored. Like he's reciting something that should be easy. ]

[personal profile] ascarylady 2025-01-08 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
It had less to do with hiding what city it was and more to do with already knowing he likely wouldn't have a clue about Zaun. There was always a chance she was wrong, but it would be strange, wouldn't it? That she would know everyone from her universe and then have some old outlier appear? Of course, in that same vein, it meant she didn't feel inclined to keep it secret.

"What, Zaun? No, it was originally on the surface alongside Piltover. It got dropped into the trenches after an attempt to blow out the last bit of land separating the two seas."

The golden promise of controlling the only river granting easy access between the two... Sevika imagines it was difficult to resist.

"That was ages before my time, though. Zaun rebuilt down there where it all landed."

IT'S TIME!!!!!! THE SHORTIEs!!!!!!!!!!

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-01-08 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
[ Silco was... weirdly used to teenagers suddenly being in his general proximity seemingly out of nowhere. Riz has a lot more stealth than Jinx does, but to Silco's perception? It's close to the same, blame the fucked up eye or something. He turned and looked directly to his right — nothing, his eyes scan up first automatically (again, an odd habit but whatever) — then down.

Ah.

Hm. He's never seen a yordle that looked like this. He's probably not a yordle.
]

Of course it is.

[ Silco scoffed, and stepped away from Tatiana, throwing her another suspicious look over his shoulder to her with that pitch eye, before he turned back to Riz.

Unfortunately, Silco looks like a supervillain, the vibes are bad right off the bat. Thankfully, for anyone who goes to Aguefort, that's probably just a tuesday. Silco looked down at him with a half-unblinking gaze.
]

One would think that if they're trying to sell this line about saving our worlds, they would be teaching lessons, rather than simply gifting raw food.

[ A shrug. ] An appropriate lesson in this case would be to not take potential...traps from starngers.
zauneyete: (pic#17504532)

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-01-08 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
[ They were of the same mind. Silco would prefer the lanes, but they both knew that Vander was inordinately attached to it — the same as Silco was, gee, who would have thought? — and he wanted nothing more than to avoid the man like the plague unless he had a way to kill him finally. That wasn't happening at the moment — he would have to plan it out again, especially given that he was nearly a decade older and didn't have the advantage of power, money, and a factory full of shimmer to get the job done.

Shame.

But it sounds like Sevika can rectify that.

Really, what would he do without her?
]

Did you?

[ he asked, leaning forward with interest now. ]

We'll have to figure that out. Given the... "color" [ variety ] of the buildings here, I am assuming that the worlds the residents here are... [ He waves his hand, searching for the word he's trying to think of. ] converging.

It may be possible, we'll have to do some more digging.
zauneyete: (Wasn't she thrown down the well?)

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-01-08 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
[ Silco is thinking of the people he arrived with, and his face — even in the shadows — contorted into something distinctly unpleasant. ]

They may as well ask us all to hold hands, and sing a little song, instead of putting us through all of this, then.
zauneyete: (pic#17504667)

[personal profile] zauneyete 2025-01-08 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
[ Silco rolled his eyes. ]

Because he charged me as soon as he saw me, of course.

[ #it'scomplicated ]
ascarylady: (sarcastic bitch face)

cw: mentions of drug, alcohol abuse

[personal profile] ascarylady 2025-01-08 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Well, look at you. Doing all the work for me.

[ Sevika hadn't anticipated that. She's actually somewhat surprised. Huh. She finally sets her shot glass back down with a quiet tink against the bar. ]

You got it, more or less. We're already struggling with all that, so what's there to lose? You'd find that most users aren't addicted or deformed. The majority of it is casual when used to get high outright. It's probably why Silco was willing to consider shutting production down. Only a tiny fraction would suffer and die from withdrawal. Of course, that's the case with any drug, isn't it?

[ She'll nod to the mug of beer Jayce has been nursing. ]

How many people do you think drink themselves to death in Zaun? Or even Piltover? Yet we're not here arguing over whether or not us having a few drinks together is moral.
