I doubt you'll lose my trust unless try to hurt Harold, you know he doesn't deserve that.

[ He did notice that Carver didn't make any promises, but that's a line John can't stand to be crossed. Harold is too good, Harold is... everything, if he's being honest. He just died for Harold, push came to shove and he did it. Despite his promises to Harold he'll probably do it again if it comes to that, he can't help it. ]
