![]() ⏵ arrival ⏴ Welcome to Etraya! Everything is fine now. 😊 Arrival goes expected - or it does for the most part. Aurora greets newcomers in the hospital as they awaken, offers a brief explanation and gives them their earpiece so they can communicate with one another. Around the hospital and outside of it, Companion Bots are hard at work decorating the city for Halloween—complete with festive touches like pumpkins, cobwebs, and glowing ghost decorations. The atmosphere is fun, light-hearted, and maybe just a little spooky. 🎃👻 Some carry buckets of candy, and offer those they come across a trick or treat. Except both options are, in fact, treats. 🍬 Tricks are treats specifically wrapped in a green wrapper that very clearly declares that they are tricks. Treats are wrapped in orange, and labeled with treat! Companion bots will recommend that those who do want to take a trick take them when they're beside their friends. There won't be any permanent effects from these, nor will they be terrible tricks - just fun ones! All effects last roughly 24 hours.
![]() ⏵ getting spooky! ⏴ Etraya is embracing the season - and maybe even going a little overboard. Around the hospital, a few small pop-up shops are manned by festively dressed companion bots. They offer samples to everyone - although sampling isn't really necessary. After all, everything here is free!
![]() ⏵ masquerade ⏴ In the spirit of mystery, Etraya will be hosting a Masquerade Ball outside the hospital through the nights of October 26th and 27th. Dance anonymously with other attendees and make new friends under the cover of your disguise. Everyone receives a single rose they can exchange with someone else throughout the evening. At the stroke of midnight, the roses will reveal the true identities of your masked dance partners. 🌹 ![]() ⏵ all hallow's eve ⏴ On October 31st, multiple companion bots set up shop along one of the walkways through the larger island towards the center. With chairs and small booths set up, they offer candies out to trick-or-treaters who wander around through the first part of the night. Some of them will request trick-or-treaters to do a trick for them, to earn a bigger treat! They may ask characters to dance, sing, or show a talent unique to them. Can your character bend themselves into a pretzel? They want to see it, and will offer them a nice bracelet in exchange! Can they whistle super loud? Maybe they'll get a nice piece of kevlar armor after showing off. This can be anything within reason - bike parts, small weaponry, armor pieces, toys, canvases for painting. Please request these items HERE. Not everything is as light-hearted as it seems, however. Aurora issues a warning to the citizens of Etraya: Do not stay outside after midnight. Strange happenings have been reported, and those who disobey may start seeing visions of past loved ones. The visions are compelling—guiding people away from the safety of the buildings and into the mysterious mist surrounding the outskirts. But be careful, these spirits may not be as friendly as they seem. If you come into contact with these ghosts, you’ll feel a chilling cold, leading to hypothermia-like symptoms. The longer you’re exposed, the worse it gets. Treatment? You’ll need to be warmed up quickly. ![]() ⏵ skellys! ⏴ The Companion Bots wanted to join in on the fun, so they painted themselves with glow-in-the-dark paint to look like skeletons. But in the dead of night, for those already suffering from the chilling touch of the ghosts, seeing glowing skeletons approach from the darkness might not be the most comforting sight. 🤖💀 Stay safe, warm up, and enjoy the festivities! He smirks just faintly at her description of John. ] A fair assessment. He's doing as well as can be expected, I think.
Could you explain what qualifies someone as an imaginary number? I'm merely going off of instinct. [ Which is obviously unsuitable for real mathematics. ]

( she nods as she looks him over to identify the important parts that helps answer his question. )
From the Transcendental World, it offers individuals a base, one that will build in form once you enter. Your starting points are not there, no matter how many times I look.
( 37 holds out her hand, not for her to take with her palm facing up, but it's within a few seconds that a glowing prism appears that rotates there. it's bright, illuminating a bit of their surroundings. )
I am not able to determine your shape, because you do not have one. Not even one simple angle in which I could try through various formulas, to try and find what it is. You are not on the axis of Real Numbers, but that does not mean it's unavailable to you.

He can't say he's upset at being considered an imaginary number, of all things. It actually seems quite apt; Harold is legally dead and hasn't used his own birth surname since he was a teenager. He's been imaginary for quite some time, in that he definitively exists and can be proven to exist, but cannot be objectively quantified. He's not totally sure that's the reasoning she's applying here, though. ]
So that I may form complex numbers and interact usefully with the world of matter? [ he hazards a guess, frowning. He does like signal processing... ]
This is getting frightfully abstract. Does your, ah, glowing shape assist you in some way?
no subject
( that's the thing about imaginary numbers, while not being able to enter the transcendental world, that doesn't mean they can't interact with the world. she's never seen an imaginary number attempt this though, and it's why she seems pretty expectant of him as she takes a step closer. )
As long as you do, in your rebirth, you will be allowed entry into the Transcendental World.
( something imaginary numbers have to work for unlike real numbers, but she only smiles because he sounds willing to learn. that's the most difficult part for imaginary numbers, they tend to reject what isn't normal to them because a world like that is beyond their imagination. )
But you must work hard this life— ( she glances at the prism in her hand before it breaks into fragments, disappearing right before his eyes. ) It was only an example of creating a familiar shape you should know. Sometimes, I can explain how to find the degrees, or even the vertex angle, or even the surface integral!
no subject
As soon as he says it, though, he realizes he should stop trying to apply actual mathematics to what she was talking about. It could even be a situation where Orwellian doublespeak is being employed, with flat and trustworthy mathematical terminology used to conceal a much deeper and possibly more insidious belief system. ]
I'm sorry, I do want to start this conversation. [ He minutely adjusts his glasses, a physical signifier of Harold reengaging in a totally new way. ]
Please explain for me what you mean by rebirth?
no subject
( 37 beams, her eyes practically sparkling as she looks at the other pleased by his response. he can find those easy, but if only she could tell him there's so much more to be seen once uncovered by these means.
what he says next doesn't shock her, instead, she nods her head with a simple sound of understanding. he wants to start this conversation despite being against it not too long ago, maybe he was in his comfort zone before. in the world of matters, they apply what they believe to be commonsense, but for 37, she looks past what is given to them, her eyes always gaze out at something more. )
It means every good deed in this life will benefit you in the next life, and on the grid will you leave from one axis to another. Imaginary to real, then you will be able to see the world for what is truly is once you reach the Transcendental World.
( she hums, tilting her head to the side as she holds out her hands. )
Your glasses, please.
( hugh also wore them, they were vital to his every day life, so maybe she can help him understand rebirth by using them. )
no subject
He shortly gets his suspicions confirmed that she's speaking of this more as theology than as straight mathematics. Harold hesitates briefly before handing over his glasses; it's his only pair here, and he'd be frustrated to have to replace them. But ultimately he believes in John's judgment of character and he thinks this is perhaps just a girl raised in a very different situation than normal.
So he hands them over, allowing her to continue her explanation uninterrupted. He's an attentive student. ]
no subject
Tell me, what do you see?
( it's as simple as that, she doesn't ask for much but what his eyes can make out in the supposed blurry world. there's many methods to try and make him understand, but this is the safest one for an imaginary number such as himself.
there's the bot next to them, the individuals walking past with bags of candy in their hands; anything he picks out that he can describe will work, she just needs to hear it. )
no subject
He hesitates before answering, uncertain what she's looking for, exactly. ]
There's a robot painted like a skeleton handing out candy, [ he says dutifully. ]
no subject
( she should be more precise, maybe, but a human can only see so much. 37 cannot expect for him to break down the intricacies of what's before him. it's a shallow answer, one that makes sense within the phenomenal world, but this would be a poor answer within the transcendental. )
The finer details must be hard to make out.
no subject
Which means he can't help a sarcastic reply. ]
I certainly can't see the atoms or quarks without my glasses.
no subject
( she brings one hand to her eyes, pressing at the area underneath her left one to emphasize that she's indicating her sight. )
The World of Matters is fuzzy, you can make out things, but it's not the full picture. Once you are in the Transcendental World, you are able to see the curves, and angles, even the vertices of what makes said object and the pattern that the world is based off of. Everything is clear and full.
( 37 holds back out his glasses so that he can take them.
she looks him up and down afterwards. )
You'll return to your true form.
no subject
He slides his glasses back on. Harold tries to assess how much he wants to openly disagree with her, engage in what he would consider a rousing academic debate, and defers for now. ]
And you've reached this state already, I assume?
[ He's really more interested in her, specifically, than in her religion. If he's retained one thing from Nathan, it's caring about individuals. ]
no subject
( she frowns a little, but there are others who have reached that state, or should have. her beliefs and principles are fragile, but she feels that as long as she can make things right again that the transcendental world will accept those like them again. )
It is when we pass that we will have entry. Individuals like us in the World of Matters are not allowed inside for we have sinned, and that's why in this life of a real number, that must we do better.
( everyone outside the transcendental world's realm are like misfits, individuals shunned out until they do right to go back in, and that's why they practice the concept of doing good in this life will allow them a better life when they die. 37 now smiles as she remembers that, she mentally thanks this imaginary number for asking her that question because sometimes she needs a small nudge towards the direction that calls to her. )
That's why when you do good, and become a real number, you will have the opportunity to transcend.
no subject
What is it that counts as doing good?
[ A light goes off in his head and he sounds somewhat bemused as he goes on, ] Are you speaking of transcendentalism as an ideology, like Thoreau and Whitman? [ As opposed to the philosophical concept of transcendentalism, like Kant. ]
no subject
( she asks, this seems simpler for those that art part of her religion— if he wasn't an imaginary number, she wouldn't mind bringing him to 6, confirming that he should be taught the way of apeiron because of his genuine interest, that he looks willing to learn.
if he were a real number, he'd be an integer to match the fraction that the other imaginary number could have been. perhaps in their next life, but that's how it all feels to her anyway considering she'd held a conversation with them both. separate, but they do stand out to her which is a shock considering...
she doesn't continue on, rather, waiting for when he's ready. )
no subject
[ It's a common theme in religion, and Harold can't quite resist the subtle jab. He's an equal opportunity atheist, which means he finds all religions a little baffling, but he's also well-educated enough to know that many of them have common themes. It makes it difficult to take any particular one more seriously than the others.
The distinction between a cult and a religion is a fuzzy one, after all; serious theologians all acknowledge that. ]
