WHEN: November 22nd - Early December
WHERE: Etraya
WHAT: The arrival of newcomers, and an unexpected guest!
NOTES\WARNINGS: N/A, please note any needed warnings in threads.
![]() ⏵ arrival ⏴ Welcome to Etraya! Arrival goes as expected - or it would, except it is not just Aurora that greets the newcomers as they arrive. Certainly they receive their earpiece so they can communicate with one another as those before them have, however there is what seems to be a woman waiting for them that is of a more flesh and blood persuasion as they leave the hospital. She carries an air about her that isn't quite like the newcomers themselves, but she is decidedly not one of the companion bots, nor Aurora. She has bone-straight blonde hair reaching past her shoulders, with a straight-cut fringe hanging above her eyes. The black dress that ends just before her mid-thighs also has a rather revealing neckline, though the sleeves which cover her arms almost feel like a mockery of modesty considering the rest. She is also wearing black stockings and black pumps, and the red of her lipstick is striking against the extreme contrast in shades she otherwise holds. As each newcomer independently files out of the hospital, she makes certain to garner their individual attention, either with a wave of her hand, a wiggle of her fingers, or directly calling them over. She is persistent, and with being so new, it is wise to heed her. Not that anyone can force one to, if they choose to walk away, nor does she seem interested in trying to, but she has her means for those proving stubborn. However, those who aren't... “Hey! I know you’re not just walking past me. I’ve got- you know, plot relevant, written all over me. I picked this dress out just for you, you know?’ For those who ignored her, or those not newly arrived, they will receive a message through their earpiece: “Girl. Hey. Listen. I’m kind of in a pinch, okay? I need like… a little favor. But its a fun favor! I need you to get your girl some info. I need the word on the street, honey. I need the tea piping hot- I need you to go talk to your friends, enemies, frenemies, butt buddies, cousins, and have them tell you about anyone they know. I need straight facts and good gossip on everyone here. And then get back to me. Kisses. ![]() ⏵ spill the tea ⏴ Tatianna having now tasked everyone (new and old) with finding out more about their fellow inhabitants—if not for their sake, for her curiosity—and in exchange she will give them valuable information that may aid them with acclimating here, or something far more valuable depending on how hot the goss is! However, she will not just hand out her secrets so easily, and so she will need one piece of gossip about each inhabitant. So she expects everyone to get mingling and talking, she isn't a charity here! To assist in this, the companion bots have set up cozy little wicker daybeds around the main hub of the city. All of which are suspiciously cozy and warm once you have sat down on them, but especially so with the accompanying aroma of the tea wafting from the kettle which rests on the center table, accompanied by sweetmeats. The tea itself also stays warm despite the cool autumn air, and so long as you stay within the daybeds, the biting chill won't reach you either. However, the tea is not only perpetually the right temperature, but it seems to have a way of loosening one's tongue. Especially the more one imbibes it. Did you mean to share that secret that might not have been yours to begin with? Or that personal detail about your best friend that wasn't meant to be known by anyone but who they themselves have told? Probably not, but the cat is out of the bag now, isn't it? Well, hopefully word won't get around...after all, it isn't likely who you are talking is going to tell everyone else, right? Right? Adding to the oddity of it all, the tea one drinks might not be the same tea that their companion is drinking, despite it pouring from the same kettle. What might be one person's earl grey, is another's pumpkin spice chai. Whatever it may be that pours out, it certainly seems to be to one's liking, or its closest approximation. There's probably some deeper meaning in that, some sort of symbolism one might surmise from the nature of sharing gossip and it being tainted by personal bias, but who cares about navel gazing about such a thing? After all, this is meant to be an enjoyable endeavor! Getting to know your fellow inhabitant should feel as comfortable as catching up with an old friend. What better way than to do it by sharing tea you both will enjoy? ☕ ![]() ⏵ close knit ⏴ As the tail end of November draws nearer, people will have already begun to see the first flakes of snow. It grows colder, and while there isn't quite a blizzard or a snow storm happening, the snow does not seem to let up with its descent. It doesn't quite get so cold that it is untenable, of course, but it would be advisable to bundle up! In fact, the companion bots seem to be on the case with assisting in just that! Around the city people will find groups of companion bots busily knitting sweaters, scarves, gloves, hats, and so forth. In fact, the moment they see someone they clock as not quite bundled enough, they will insist on supplying them with whatever they deem as being without. Are you already wearing a scarf? Well, clearly you need two of them! How about the gloves? Couldn't hurt to have several pairs! However, that isn't all that's available to people, after all there are cafes out and about where one might get a hot beverage to help fight off the cold, but for those less inclined for such establishments, the companion bots are here to serve! There is at least one companion bot per knitting group that seems to have hot cocoa on hand. If they see someone who is looking particularly cold (almost everyone is, the companion bots aren't particularly keen on the signs of successful temperature regulation), they will have a paper cup of hot cocoa imposed upon them that has their name on the side. Or, sort of. It is at least a close approximation of their name, or maybe it is an alternate spelling? Really, who can blame the bots for getting confused, there are so many of you! ![]() ⏵ snow more games ⏴ The snow is here to stay, but that doesn't mean that it has to be a bad thing! With everyone well supplied in their winter garb, the companion bots have set up spots for fun activities! Perhaps the inhabitants would enjoy a fun snowball fight, or some sledding? Some of the waters have frozen over, so ice skating is always a possibility too. Though one might want to be careful if they are to venture past what the companion bots have marked as safe. Some of the companion bots are trying their best at making a snowman, but all their efforts seem to come out rather...square. They're trying their best, but maybe they can learn by following the inhabitant's examples. There are others that will offer gold star stickers to those who seem to dominate in the snowball fights, but unfortunately the stickers don't stick too well with all the snow. Well, they tried! People will still find bots out and about with nice warm beverages available to fight off the cold, too. That service will continue to be available for the foreseeable future. Similarly, if someone comes out who is a little too under-dressed for the weather, the bots might have to pick up those knitting needles again, so be sure to put on your winter clothes..! To report information to Tatianna, do so here! She will only give each person their rewarded information once she has a bit of information on each character in the game. Each bit of gossip does not require a thread to count though it should be IC knowledge gained through IC means. Try to check what gossip has been given to her already, because doubling up will not yield results! Good luck! For all questions relating to this log, please refer to the mod queries comment. 'i don't know what you like to do'
it was an interesting statement, did he truly care about her like that? it was awkward to say the least. she felt like she had been talking about herself a lot these days, meeting new people and introducing herself, but she hadn't been quite upfront with anyone about what she truly did or enjoyed. remnants of being followed by a cult her entire life. )
Oh well uh....I mean I enjoy things most people do I guess. I used to work at as a babysitter back home before joining a youth crises hotline.
Aside from that I mean I enjoy just hanging out with friends, playing games, going shopping...I'm pretty boring in comparison to someone like you, who does magic and builds things.
no subject
[ He presses a small smile to his lips, which just shows the tusks at the sides of his mouth. Looks down briefly, since he knows that might sound a lot to say about someone he hardly knows, but. ]
Tinkering or doing magic isn't everything. I've always been caught up in schoolwork one way or another, and it made me and my teammates bad at hanging out, you know, as friends. We couldn't do it a lot outside adventuring. Or it's always about a mystery going on...
So playing games or going shopping or doing things like that--that sounds cool to me. [ Cool, in a fun and fine way. He nods then, a little shyly. ] Helping out on a hotline, too. You helped people going through a rough time?
no subject
so to be complimented like this, to be shown this kind of attention was flattering. a little embarrassing but flattering nonetheless. )
Oh....I see....well you know-
( now it was her turn to be just as awkward. )
This place kinda sucks and doesn't have much to offer like back home, but if you want to live the 'normal' teenager experience, we could always do those things too. As payback for the glasses you'll be making.
( to his last comment, she simply smiled. )
Yeah but I mean I'm not some kind of therapist or anything. I think a lot of people just want someone who will listen without judgement.
no subject
Though he always tries to be honest, looking at the rest of the contents of his hot chocolate that he's managed to sip down to nearly the bottom. Hanging out with Heather seems like it'd be fun, even just getting to know her--it's kinda what he's hoping he could lead to right now. Except... ]
But, yeah, okay. I mean, you can just have the glasses... I don't wanna buy your friendship. So, if you wanted to hang out anyway... I won't take them back. You can have them.
[ Since she helped him out, even, by texting him and them having the talk about them anyway, even if he's not dropping that detail right now. Because maybe he's kinda hoping she'd want to hang out with him anyway, and that's not too forward? That's not weird? Especially when she seems so more chill than him.
Maybe he just likes the idea of having friends. ]
cw: trauma related discussions
( it wasn't some kind of dig at him by any means, she's just being honest. she didn't think it was something she could handle either, but having gone through a lot of things the callers on the other line talked about, she could understand them. she viewed the pain she had suffered through as something to preserve through and while sometimes others weren't as resilient, she did believe in helping.
what he said next though did bring about a strange look to her face. is that how he viewed this? something transactional? but then he said something that brought out a more playful nature in her. she looked up at him and smiled, turning her hand into a fist and very gently, she punched him in the shoulder. )
Is that your strange way of saying you want to be friends? Because I would have hanged out with you regardless of the glasses or not.
no subject
So, he might be worried (that his parents were right: gifts actually are a good way of making friends, and not simple bribery). But then she punches him, and the shyness about him brushes off some with it, but also her follow-up, that leads to his shoulders visibly relaxing. ]
Oh. Good. [ That's relief there. And even a smile, despite being called out for his...oddities. But hey. He's an odd guy, sometimes, he knows that. Other people are odd too! ] Cool. You wanna...hang out now? Somewhere warmer? I wanna hear about the kind of games you play, or-- do you watch movies? We watch movies sometimes, the guys I live with.
[ After they managed to find a TV and to understand that disks held movies on them. A brand new kind of technology!
But the topic is an introduction for things they can talk about: he wants to know more about her, even as a normal person who just hangs out with friends and shops.
There's plenty more they can learn about each other, surely. ]
oh my god that icon *wheezes*
( she seemed rather surprise by the sudden proposition, and while he had told her to make friends with people-
she had been more upfront about her intentions without implying anyone had to be that kind of friend with her. this almost came across as a normal friendship, between two people who weren't trying to form a bond for the sake of protecting themselves from whatever this place was going to throw at them.
this felt....normal. something she had been wanting for herself for a long time. it was a nice feeling and it made her appear visibly quite happy about it. )
You're fast aren't you? You must be a riot with the ladies. Sure I like movies and games, we can do any of that stuff.
( she's teasing him now but soon she held out her hand to him. friends held hands and did these things, right? )
Lead the way then? To some place warmer and more fun.
this is official art: https://tinflower.dreamwidth.org/file/2622.png
He is far too easy to tease. But he also doesn't think twice about taking the hand, his hand stiff but easily grippable, not putting any pressure (he has to be careful about about he holds things--especially other people). He's happy for it--and happy for this opportunity, too. ]
O-okay. The café is nice. I always go there 'cause it's a short walk from my lab. [ And he knows the way from here. Maybe so does Heather, but he's been around a while enough to recognise the layout enough to feel comfortable to decide their direction, which way to walk. ]
Are you learning anything? Like, in school or whatever?
I'm dying lmao
the thought of him worrying over her was....perhaps a bit much to handle now. she just wanted some normalcy, even if it was with someone others would consider anything but normal. )
Lab huh?
( she wasn't sure how that worked here specifically [she just rolled into her apartment without questions after all], so she made a note to ask him about his lab later on. as for the cafe, she had certainly come across it in search of caffeine. it also seemed it didn't do anything to her, so she was more than fine with going there first. )
Do you mean here or back home? I haven't really been doing much with myself here outside of meeting new people and taking note of things I see around.
no subject
[ But he wants to know what she's training in, or interested in. Not just hobbies, or not simple ones. What does Heather like? ]
no subject
her own world was so different and it had been filled with a lot of painful events in between the more fun ones. with everything that had happened, she hadn't even thought about school or anything like that in so long. )
Unfortunately schools where I'm from don't really do 'training' like that unless you go to some kind of special school or school for the rich kids. I was just you know...in my last year of school and I was looking forward to things like University and what not.
( she had hobbies and things she liked, but her mind had truly been wrapped up in survival as of late.
she will share with him this though- )
My dad was a writer...I think he would have liked it if I got into that too, but I can't say I'm the best at coming up with stories.
no subject
Do you wanna write? [ It doesn't sound like it... ] I don't know if that's... if you pick up what your parents do where you're from, but, I know there's universities that cover different subjects. Were you looking into anything else?
[ He's trying to touch on the subject carefully, not wanting to offend her. What if this is something meaningful, following after her father? He did note the was, there... but they come from different worlds, so maybe there's shit involved he isn't considering. ]
no subject
she had a lot to write about considering her father's life, legacy, and her own past feeling like something out of a story. in fact, his question made her look off ahead of them in a rather wistful way. he had just given her an idea. )
I didn't at first but now....I think I should write about my father. I'm the only one who knows everything about him and what he went through to raise me on his own. He's no longer alive so....I could do it in his memory.
( to his other question, she thought about it harder. it seemed difficult to focus on such things with how things ended up, but maybe here she could truly have a future. )
I guess anything else would maybe be something relating to helping others. Like becoming a guidance counselor or something. If I had magical powers like you, I might be tempted to hone in on those instead..
no subject
The idea wouldn't strike him. But also, the passing thought of either of them going isn't comfortable. That much is understandable. ]
You can still build things... I've been learning a lot what people build without magic if you wanna borrow some books. I have to learn mathematical languages and even biology. [ Because if she's into what he can do--that's the same, right? Even so, ] But, you know... learning to talk to and help people is just as cool. I can put things together, but I often feel like... I don't connect to people enough. Like I don't see what they need, or, I don't know if I'm doing a good job.
[ He looks at his hand holding the paper cup. ]
Learning how people work is harder than maths. And maths can suck-- maths really sucks you in. You can get stuck on a problem for weeks.
no subject
naturally though, she couldn't help but speak about him if the situation allowed it. he wasn't her biological father but he was loved. for now though, she's thankful he switched the topic a bit. )
I'll take a look, couldn't help to develop new skills if I'm going to be here for a while.
( his next comment, a self-observation of himself does make her give him a questionable glance. )
We're walking to a cafe and holding hands. I think you connect to people plenty actually, but if you feel like you need more help, I can help you with that.
no subject
I guess it's... more that I'm worried about the follow through after making a connection? I, but I've been trying. But I might ask for help. My friends-- the ones from my world, I think they've been feeling stressed lately. Because of what happened with the mission before the last one, and, they've been here longer than I have. And, we did lose another friend...
[ And he can see how that can affect them. It affects him too, even if he feels more unsure, isn't sure of what to do, but that again is a problem for them. Is it that a state of mind anyone can help with? Feeling too strongly the bars around them that none of them can escape.
Or it might be a lot to expect another person to have an answer as to what to do. Gorgug isn't sure even now if it's a problem anyone can fix, or aid. ]
no subject
she realized that if he was bringing attention to this insecurity, it's because he felt it to be real. she could understand that better than anyone else-
for there had been a time where her own insecurities and pains had festered into dark emotions and negativity. it was only now through the clarity of being given a third chance at life that she could view things in a more positive light. so as the continued walking and he finished speaking, she finally spoke. )
I don't mind helping you...if I were in your position....I think I'd reach out to them and offer to be there for them. That's all you can really do for others without pushing for too much.
Just like you have with me, and you don't even know me that well.
no subject
But he doesn't want to be dismissive, either. He's been called some equivalent of nice, lately, and it's been sitting oddly in him: like he isn't sure that it fits, but he never wants to argue it. It's probably less to do with him, and more to do with the kind of places they come from, right? ]
I'll do that, [ he eventually says--that should be addressed first. ] Tell them. Yeah... just so they know it's okay. I know they were worrying about me for a while.
[ So it would be good to reiterate. To let them know he's in a place to be there.
But, he feels like it would be wrong to gloss over Heather, what she's said about their relationship in itself. So, giving their hands a small swing. ]
And, if you ever wanna talk about something, or you don't wanna talk about something, I'm fine with both. I'll read your book about your dad if you start writing it. [ Because he would appreciate someone doing that for him. ] But, I think-- it's okay if you don't want to tell me things, or you've got big secrets that are bad to you? Someone was worried recently I would hate them 'cause they never told me some big personal stuff about them, but... I don't think about what people did where they come from.
[ He looks at her, then ahead, seeing the café coming closer into view. Squinting a little, as- ]
I dunno. Everyone's got something weird about them, in my experience.
[ Don't call Heather weird, Gorgug...!!!! ]
no subject
but she was starting to feel closer to him, as if they had known each other for years. he was so flustered and worried about being a good friend and yet in between all of that, it seemed they were similar. she wasn't as vocal about her concerns, but those same thoughts he had were some she had pondered upon many years ago.
what if....she had done more for the leader of the cult who was after her recently? would she have turned out different? for now she won't bring it up, but his words seemed to bring those thoughts out in her. )
Well...not everything has to do with the world the person comes from you know? Sometimes people are just like that, they just can't share what's happening to them even if they want to. You can't control that...
( she doesn't mean that he's controlling, but rather an assurance that somethings just were out of his control and he shouldn't feel bad.
heather will tease him about that last comment, stopping them in their tracks as she turned to face him. her hand was still on his but she gave it a tight squeeze before speaking up. )
But it helps not to call people weird. I'm not weird, am I?
no subject
He knew he had qualities about him that people might not like.
Which-- he does stop, blinking at her curiously for a second before she calls him out. And now Gorgug's ducking his head, putting his free hand around the back of his neck. ]
Well, I don't mean weird as in a bad way, since I think I'm a weird guy too. I'm a lot weirder than you, from my perspective, and there might be something weird about you I don't know about, but, I wouldn't hold that against you...
[ Did Heather want Gorgug flustering to try and explain his way out of deeming everyone varying levels of weird? Because she got it. ]
no subject
so while he ducked his head and shuffled about awkwardly, she stared at him with a softer expression. she could only wonder if this was his weird way of trying to get her to open up more to him, or that at the very least she could. she wondered...
could he really be a friend she could trust? more than just allies to help each other survive this place. )
Right...we should probably keep going, it's getting pretty cold here.
no subject
[ He answers her with a voice that's light, would border on cheery without the intention of fun. Turns on his foot and resumes walking, and knows inside of himself: oh no, I stepped in it.
And as he walks, he wonders: should he apologise? Say that she isn't weird at all? But it starts to feel wrong and too late, like it's bringing up something she obviously doesn't want to speak about, when he truly hadn't meant anything by it. But maybe she's sensitive about these things, and it's not like he didn't use to feel bad about being a weirdo. Actually, don't most people dislike it?
But he got caught up in himself, and now it's getting far too late to say anything with each quiet step. If he should be saying anything, it's to fill up the silence between them, but as he looks upon the encroaching café, Gorgug doesn't get the chance to when he remembers something semi-important. A kind of big deal about hanging out at a café, and saying that it's a thing that he does, when actually- ]
Um... Heather? [ He slows them to a stop again, the building of the café near. They've been talking about things that people keep to themselves, that they don't share, and-- none of this has any connection to that. But his hand feels awkward in hers, has for a while, but now he's truly wondering if to let it go; as he lowers his head, doesn't meet her eye. ] There's actually... something I should tell you, I think.
no subject
so she remained silent, not thinking much about what he had said or how he may have felt about the entire thing. if only they could just say what they were thinking-
they'd realize there was no animosity between them. she wasn't angered or put off by his comments, she was simply too wrapped up in her own thought. so much that when he slowed down to stop them and spoke, she nearly fell forward. instead the sudden halt caused her hand to slip out of his. )
Oh-
What is it?
( now this was strange and unexpected. )
no subject
...when I told you that I go to the café, it wasn't that I didn't, but I. I haven't actually been doing it for a while after I freaked out and tried destroying most of Etraya.
[ His voice loses volume as he speaks those last words, though he otherwise tries to be composed, casual about the whole thing, about something that he's only realising now is probably not an event he should be casual about. Or not tell people about? He should've told Heather, maybe. He should've brought this up before. ]
I think I...told you about the mission where an infection went around, and it made people lose their minds, right? That's what happened, but... I get kinda nervous. About going into places where people hang out. People tell me it's alright...
[ But he's still nervous. He's still guilty. And now he feels dumb, making such a stupid mistake as to suggest a place that he gets stupid about. ]
I got caught up on hanging out with you...
[ That I forgot this pretty important detail. ]
no subject
it seemed to her he was having difficulties expressing himself and perhaps just wanted to confide in heather too. in asking her to share, perhaps he was trying to feel less guilt about the whole thing. this was how she felt anyways, it could be far from the truth.
but as gorgug shared the details, she couldn't help but wonder if he had hurt anyone in his rampage. if he hadn't, well she couldn't quite be annoyed or dismayed with him. )
Oh...I guess that makes sense, sorry....I guess I got caught up in it too and didn't think to even ask if that was something you really wanted to do.
( she knew it wasn't her fault, but she couldn't help but try and make him feel a bit better. it was difficult for her sometimes to be more gentle about things, but she was trying. even if they weren't necessarily close yet. )
Would you rather do something else or go somewhere else? We can talk more about this if you want...
