December Library Catch-All [ OPEN ]

WHO: John, Harold, and anyone who might find themselves at the Library
WHEN: December
WHERE: The Library!
WHAT: The Library is here and open to all! Come borrow books, find a comfy chair to relax in, or snoop around.
NOTES\WARNINGS: Will be added as they come up

The Library is a five-story neoclassical building of terra cotta, brick, and stone. And the inside is, in fact, a library! And rather clean and organized too. There's no dust, no muddy footprints (apart from your own), and all the shelves are organized by Dewey Decimal, subject, and author. All literature is something you might find in a 2010 New York City library: various forms of fiction, children's and teens' sections, history, science, cooking, gardening, the list goes on. There's even small sections of audiobooks on compact disks and of DVDs ranging from old classics to history shows. The first floor has a reading/study room, a comfortable space with deep armchairs and tables with chairs; the fifth floor has some smaller tables clustered under a skylight. Part of the second floor is abruptly closed off by a door with a biometric scanner that denies entry to anyone who isn't John Reese or Harold Finch; the walls surrounding this section are soundproofed, so even a keen listener won't hear anything from inside. Otherwise, it's a perfectly normal library!

I could do better on the delivery.

[Comedy was the domain of the truly clever... But sometimes a person who paid attention to reality could make some fun points.]

We both make our livelihood on the sins of others. They go to the priest to confess.... Probably after their spouse learned from the PI they hired about any financial indiscretions, filandering, or other freaky things that were kept hidden.

We'll try better next time.

[ He softens his expression but it only does so much. His shoulders shrug as he gives up on it; his face is a distrustful one, so why try to hide it? It'll make things difficult later, anyway. ]

My livelihood comes from something else, but I suppose I'm willing to let that slide. [ A small chuckle. ] Anyway, I'm Vincent. And what's your name, Mister Detective? Or is it Mister PI?

Detective is fine. That's what my-- I guess you'd call her my apprentice-- calls me.

[Lola, and her foolhardy little mission that involved him for reasons he still couldn't fathom, did keep the little smile on his face for a moment. Strange as she was, she had made his winter much more interesting than it would have been otherwise.]

Shelley. My name's Shelley.

[He added, with no clarifiers. Sure, it was a girl's name-- but it was his, and he didn't care enough to change it. ]

What is your livelihood, then? Or is that a trade secret?

Detective Shelley, then.

[ What sort of moniker is Vincent hoping to acquire? Just that he's a bad person who will do good things for others. His personality is an awful one that he's well aware of, so the best he can hope for is being seen as the lesser of two evils in any situation. So, it's good to have a good introduction with people so they maintain that belief for as long as possible. ]

No, it's hardly a trade secret.

[ He waves his hand dismissvely. ]

When I joined my order, I promised to give up all desires for material wealth and items. So, should I acquire any money, it is meant to strengthen the power of my religious organization... you know, building churches, expanding outreaches, that sort of thing.
