FEBRUARY MINGLE

WHO: Everyone!
WHEN: February 14th - March
WHERE: Etraya
WHAT: The arrival of newcomers, a mini mission, and some new city features!
NOTES\WARNINGS:

⏵ arrival ⏴

Welcome to Etraya!

Arrival goes as expected - characters awaken on hospital beds and are offered an explanation of their situation: that they have arrived in the city of Etraya, and they are their world's only hope. They are welcome to wander the hospital if they would like to - the upper floors are mostly empty, full of pristine hallways and numerous rooms filled with supplies, cots, and things one would expect from a relatively average 21st-century hospital.

In the hospital's lobby are several party tables set out with miscellaneous baked goods: croissants, cookies, breads, cake slices, as well as tea and coffee to accompany them - or hot chocolate, for those who are opposed to the other offerings.

Outside the hospital, the last remnants of snow are melting in the sunlight as the weather begins to warm up. It's still chilly enough one might want to put on a coat, but not so cold a jacket is necessary for wandering around without freezing off one's fingers.

We hope you enjoy your stay.

⏵ heroes return ⏴

As the Quantum Rail train glides to a halt, returning passengers step out onto familiar ground - the train station, right where they had initially begun their mission. When exiting the station, their earpieces vibrate, indicating the automatic download of a detailed map which highlights key locations, transit paths, and notable landmarks. As Aurora promised, she had been working on a few renovations around Etraya! A sleek trolley system now winds through Etraya, following clearly marked pathways through the city bubble to make travel across the city smoother. However, the trolley only moves one way, eternally following the loop Aurora has set it on. And because of this, it takes six hours to complete it's loop all the way around. Don't miss your stop!

Pets and animals have been returned to their usual preferred areas, some awaiting the arrival of their owners, and others keeping to themselves in the forested areas throughout Etraya.

Beyond the small upgrades, things seem relatively unchanged - until one familiar sign catches the eye. One marked by four vertical lines, methodically crossed out one by one: the final slash has now been drawn through. The tally is complete. What it indicates has yet to be made clear, but it has to mean something, right? No one would go through the effort of making an ominous-sounding sign without following through.

⏵ love in the air ⏴

This Valentines Day, Aurora and the companion bots have opted to try something a little different: they have scattered mystery valentines across the city. Hidden within mailboxes, tucked into cafe menus, slipped under doors, on the outside of high windows for those wall-crawlers to spot. There are countless of these little slips of papers, strewn throughout the city. And within each valentine, is a challenge or gesture to complete. Please feel free to make these up yourselves as long as they fit in with the theme!

Some examples include:

  • Deliver a flower to a stranger.
  • Write a heartfelt poem for someone.
  • Share a box of chocolates!
  • Confess your feelings for another.
  • Play matchmaker for two people - this can be platonic, or romantic!
  • Gift a friend with a stuffed animal.
  • Give five different people a genuine compliment.

While not mandatory, completing five tasks will earn an individual an additional ten points to use towards anything they would like!

Each little Valentine is signed "Your Secret Admirer. ♡", and some of them may even be addressed to specific individuals. Don't be surprised, Eddie, if you see one or two that are specifically addressed to you lurking around your collection of chicken friends!

And while most of these are harmless, some of the valentines cards come with effects for those who come into contact with the paper. Perhaps they thought it was a piece of garbage, or were just kicking it out of the way rather than intending on taking part. It doesn't matter! They get to join in on the fun, too.

Heart Eyes - your pupils literally turn into hearts for a few hours, making it hard to focus on anything other than things (or people) you find attractive.
Love-Struck Stammer - You can only speak in poetic compliments or romantic declarations, regardless of whom you're speaking to.
Chocolate Bliss - Everything feels good. Simple. Easy. As if there's nothing in the world to concern yourself with. You feel happy, without any concerns or worry.
Rose-Tinted Vision - everything looks soft and romantic, as if you're in a romance novel. You know the ones.
Magnetic Attraction - regardless of what you had been doing, you suddenly find yourself unable to leave the side of the person closest to you. Had you been eating chocolates while walking down the street? Well, have fun getting stuck to the guy who'd been out for a jog!
Serenade Syndrome - you find it impossible to resist the urge to sing your words, turning all conversations into love ballads.
Heartstrings - A thread appears, connecting you to someone close by who you share many similarities too. Perhaps you had never met this person before, but the threads tied around your pinky fingers that refuse to let go until you allow yourself to open up to them clearly means you should be a little more familiar with them.

Love is in the air—or maybe just a bit of well-intended chaos! 💕

⏵ NOTES ⏴

Welcome back from the mission, and welcome to Etraya for our newcomers! We've tried to keep this log simple for an easy introduction, as well as some downtime for our mission-goers who worked hard to solve the Quantum Rail mystery.

There is something else going on, but. . . well, no one seems to know what! The computer that had been on the lower floor of the hospital is now missing, and Aurora may seem a little flustered as she flits around Etraya, in search of something.

For all questions relating to this log, please refer to the mod queries comment. All other questions can be directed to the FAQ.

[Fun? What's that? ]

In our downtime, we pray, and read the Codex Astartes. [Highly fulfilling hobbies.] We also do weapons maintenance and operations planning.

[Oh. Oh this man needed to let loose and have fun. That also could be a terrible idea, and he wasn't certain if a building with survive if it went off the rails. Still, he just might be daring enough to find out.

He looked at his flower, which he knew literally nothing about, and then at Gadriel.]
Pray, huh? Who are you praying to exactly?

[He finally turned away and gestured with his free hand for Gadriel to follow.] Come on, I think I have to put this gift in water. I could use a drink; do you have an alcohol of choice?

[His Primarch's codex insists that Ultramarines should have no more than fifteen minutes of personal reflection time per day, so that is what his order follows.]

We pray to the Emperor, that we can fulfill the duty we have sworn to him. [Obviously.]

[Another person might find it a bit concerning to just randomly follow a stranger anywhere, but when one ways about a thousand pounds, including armor, personal safety isn't a large concern.

No? [He's not even sure what that is. ]

[personal profile] cantilevers 2025-02-16 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
What does your Emperor do for you to instill that kind of loyalty?

[What a curious way of stating that. He was experiencing a kind of uncomfortable impression from the man now. Well, different strokes for different folks. Most of them didn't always have a choice in how their lives turned out.

Nah, Vander followed random strangers all the time. This place was about making connections, and if this guy was somehow bigger and meaner than he was, it was certain a novel experience that he wasn't about to dodge out on.]

Oh well, we're going to have a good time. I doubt either of us are cheap drunks, so this will be entertaining.
thecodexabides: (double hmmm)

[personal profile] thecodexabides 2025-02-16 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Gadriel's kind often elicit that reaction from mortals. They're...just weird, even in their own world.]

Without the Emperor, humanity would no longer exist, crushed under the xenos and the heretics. He created my kind to protect humanity.

How do you not know this? [This IS the Imperium, yes? ]

We are? [He's not sure quite what is happening, or how. But it is happening, apparently.]

[personal profile] cantilevers 2025-02-16 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know what any of that means. Oh, my city doesn't have a formal education system, but he sounds like a great guy. Have you met him personally?

[He had no idea where this guy was from, but it sounded like a rigid military type place that would make even Noxus' toes curl. They had just meant, and he was nearly committed to befriending the guy to see what would happen.]

Someone explained to you where in a place called Etraya, yeah? We're charged with saving our worlds?
thecodexabides: (daylight armed)

[personal profile] thecodexabides 2025-02-16 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
...no. The Emperor is...[It's complicated. He's been sort of dead for the last ten thousand years, but also sort of not dead and his psychic power is the only thing holding the Imperium together. ] He has better things to do than hold audiences for his mere Angels.

I have saved many worlds, in my time, with my brothers. [What's one more?] Etraya. Demerium, they all have names.
cantilevers: (91)

[personal profile] cantilevers 2025-02-16 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmmm, that doesn't seem entirely fair. You're defending his principles and serving him. It seems like the least he could do is shake your hand once in awhile. [Yeah, Vander also came from a place with no formal government where there were loose gangs or Chem-Barons that required certain amounts to keep the peace.

He didn't care enough about the Piltover Council to think that highly of them. It seemed simple enough to lump this Emperor more in that direction. Not caring for the people was the sign of a bad leader in his books.]

Ah well, you're going to do just fine here then. Make some friends, defend your world, and hopefully you'll be sent home soon.

[Until then, he was taking them for a drink. Maybe this one would loosen up with a few tequila shots?]

He is many light years away, and the Warp is unstable. Travel for such a vain purpose would take us from our mission.

[The Emperor wasn't going on tours mostly because he was in a psychic coma and had been for the last ten thousand years. He sacrificed everything for humanity. That was caring enough for most of the Imperium even those who held faith lightly in their hands. ]

I do not know how to do that. [The friends part.] When do we get assigned to a unit?
cantilevers: (89)

[personal profile] cantilevers 2025-02-16 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Light years? [He had no idea what distance that actually was.] Do you believe your Emperor sent you alone on this mission then?

[From his experience talking to people, it didn't seem like people drawn here were allowed much in the way of choice. There did not appear to be a rhyme or reason for certain people to arrive when they did and in whatever form that took.]

Oh well, consider it a great opportunity to learn. I'll teach you. [Vander liked to believe he made friends freely and easily.] We are sent on mandatory missions every two months. The objectives are different for each mission.

A unit of distance, through space. It is a considerable time. And with the Warp unstable, we could arrive...hundreds of years after we left. [Or before, to be honest. Shit got WEIRD in the Warp. ]

...I do not know. All I know is I live and die at his command. [So probably yes?]

All right. I will do my best to learn. [There is no possible way this could go badly. ]
cantilevers: (55)

[personal profile] cantilevers 2025-02-16 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Space? You mean among the stars? [Hoy boy, he was feeling that lack of formal education right about now.] You're looking excellent for someone who may or may not have traveled hundreds of years at some point.

[Hmmm, that was quite a lot to unpack. Clearly they needed to talk more about it over drinks.]

Well, I expect he'd command you to save your world. So that's what you'll do, right?

[Vander sized this guy up, trying to determine if Gadriel could even fit through normal sized doors even with a stoop and side-ways turn. Whatever, he'd drank in the streets before.] That's the spirit! And who knows, maybe others of your team will show up.
thecodexabides: (Default)

[personal profile] thecodexabides 2025-02-16 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. My home system is Macragge, years away from Old Terra. We travel through the Warp. [Ya know, just using FTL engines to rip a hole through Hell itself and try to race through before anything bad latches on. Super fun. Doesn't always work.]

....That does make sense. [He doesn't understand why he would be chosen for a mission like this by the Emperor and not Lieutenant Titus, or Lord Calgar. But still. ]

[Gadriel is used to everything being built for his size, so this whole...place will be a challenge in terms of that. But in his defense, he has a very hard head. He'll be fine bonking it a few times. ] Why are we doing this? [He's following the other man, curious but...no idea what he's doing.]

cantilevers: (37)

[personal profile] cantilevers 2025-02-16 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, unfortunately for you, I don't think there's any kind of Warp system aside from maybe the cosmic train and I couldn't begin to tell you about that technology. [It was also gone after dropping them all off. Would it return? He doubted it. He was just a simple bartender trying to save his world, nothing more, nothing less.]

You're taking all of this in stride. See, I knew you were a charmer. [No, that wasn't the same, but he thought it was amusing as he took them to Harry's pub and again he had to consider the value of normal human sized doors.]

Because I said we were getting a drink. Unfortunately, they didn't expand the doorways, so I think we'll have to drink in the streets. Feels like home already. [He turned as they arrived at their destination, flower still in hand.] Have you drank alcohol much?
