FEBRUARY MINGLE
WHO: Everyone!
WHEN: February 14th - March
WHERE: Etraya
WHAT: The arrival of newcomers, a mini mission, and some new city features!
NOTES\WARNINGS:
WHEN: February 14th - March
WHERE: Etraya
WHAT: The arrival of newcomers, a mini mission, and some new city features!
NOTES\WARNINGS:
![]() ⏵ arrival ⏴ Welcome to Etraya! Arrival goes as expected - characters awaken on hospital beds and are offered an explanation of their situation: that they have arrived in the city of Etraya, and they are their world's only hope. They are welcome to wander the hospital if they would like to - the upper floors are mostly empty, full of pristine hallways and numerous rooms filled with supplies, cots, and things one would expect from a relatively average 21st-century hospital. In the hospital's lobby are several party tables set out with miscellaneous baked goods: croissants, cookies, breads, cake slices, as well as tea and coffee to accompany them - or hot chocolate, for those who are opposed to the other offerings. Outside the hospital, the last remnants of snow are melting in the sunlight as the weather begins to warm up. It's still chilly enough one might want to put on a coat, but not so cold a jacket is necessary for wandering around without freezing off one's fingers. We hope you enjoy your stay. ![]() ⏵ heroes return ⏴ As the Quantum Rail train glides to a halt, returning passengers step out onto familiar ground - the train station, right where they had initially begun their mission. When exiting the station, their earpieces vibrate, indicating the automatic download of a detailed map which highlights key locations, transit paths, and notable landmarks. As Aurora promised, she had been working on a few renovations around Etraya! A sleek trolley system now winds through Etraya, following clearly marked pathways through the city bubble to make travel across the city smoother. However, the trolley only moves one way, eternally following the loop Aurora has set it on. And because of this, it takes six hours to complete it's loop all the way around. Don't miss your stop! Pets and animals have been returned to their usual preferred areas, some awaiting the arrival of their owners, and others keeping to themselves in the forested areas throughout Etraya. Beyond the small upgrades, things seem relatively unchanged - until one familiar sign catches the eye. One marked by four vertical lines, methodically crossed out one by one: the final slash has now been drawn through. The tally is complete. What it indicates has yet to be made clear, but it has to mean something, right? No one would go through the effort of making an ominous-sounding sign without following through. ![]() ⏵ love in the air ⏴ This Valentines Day, Aurora and the companion bots have opted to try something a little different: they have scattered mystery valentines across the city. Hidden within mailboxes, tucked into cafe menus, slipped under doors, on the outside of high windows for those wall-crawlers to spot. There are countless of these little slips of papers, strewn throughout the city. And within each valentine, is a challenge or gesture to complete. Please feel free to make these up yourselves as long as they fit in with the theme! Some examples include:
While not mandatory, completing five tasks will earn an individual an additional ten points to use towards anything they would like! Each little Valentine is signed "Your Secret Admirer. ♡", and some of them may even be addressed to specific individuals. Don't be surprised, Eddie, if you see one or two that are specifically addressed to you lurking around your collection of chicken friends! And while most of these are harmless, some of the valentines cards come with effects for those who come into contact with the paper. Perhaps they thought it was a piece of garbage, or were just kicking it out of the way rather than intending on taking part. It doesn't matter! They get to join in on the fun, too. Heart Eyes - your pupils literally turn into hearts for a few hours, making it hard to focus on anything other than things (or people) you find attractive. Love-Struck Stammer - You can only speak in poetic compliments or romantic declarations, regardless of whom you're speaking to. Chocolate Bliss - Everything feels good. Simple. Easy. As if there's nothing in the world to concern yourself with. You feel happy, without any concerns or worry. Rose-Tinted Vision - everything looks soft and romantic, as if you're in a romance novel. You know the ones. Magnetic Attraction - regardless of what you had been doing, you suddenly find yourself unable to leave the side of the person closest to you. Had you been eating chocolates while walking down the street? Well, have fun getting stuck to the guy who'd been out for a jog! Serenade Syndrome - you find it impossible to resist the urge to sing your words, turning all conversations into love ballads. Heartstrings - A thread appears, connecting you to someone close by who you share many similarities too. Perhaps you had never met this person before, but the threads tied around your pinky fingers that refuse to let go until you allow yourself to open up to them clearly means you should be a little more familiar with them. Love is in the air—or maybe just a bit of well-intended chaos! 💕 Welcome back from the mission, and welcome to Etraya for our newcomers! We've tried to keep this log simple for an easy introduction, as well as some downtime for our mission-goers who worked hard to solve the Quantum Rail mystery. There is something else going on, but. . . well, no one seems to know what! The computer that had been on the lower floor of the hospital is now missing, and Aurora may seem a little flustered as she flits around Etraya, in search of something. [ She repeats, reflective. Max paints enough of a picture, and she is well-equipped to fill in the gaps. There are cruel men everywhere, and it has been long since Furiosa has been surprised by the depths of their cruelty.
Bravery and reliability, though... These are things worthy of her surprise, refreshing glimpses past the ugly violence marking all of humanity, glimmers that quench a thirst for hope. She looks again to Max, gaze tracing his profile. ]
And then?
no subject
[He looks over to her, finally meeting her gaze in full.]
Been the 'ruler' for a decade at least. Way before me. Before any of the others here with me. Ruthless, uses violence on missions Echo sent us on to get her way. Only choice she gives everyone else is following her command or dying.
Came with a price, though. Solmara's AI... it doesn't give out supplies like it used to, not after what she'd done to, ahh... the 'order' of things. Her group managed to collect a few supplies from our city's hospital... but the rations are low. She's getting more desperate.
[A soft breath.]
Mm. She wants what Etraya has.

[ Furiosa's voice is hushed but edges into urgency. Suddenly her eyes cast around to make sure they haven't been followed, not that any observers would be able to sneak past the peripheries of their keen (paranoid) eyes.
The half-eaten apple falls to the ground. Not a waste. In the forest, it will rot and nurture something new. She needs her hand for something else, reaching forward to grip tightly around Max's wrist.
From the sounds of it, the whole city is in danger, but Furiosa is too focused on mitigating the danger to just him for now. ]
Did she follow you?
[ Did she send him here? ]
no subject
No.
[At least, he doesn't think so. Otherwise, she would have just barged in here, armed and ready to attack. Not her style, he thinks.
Despite Furiosa's urgency, Max is calm and quiet — this is freedom for now, and with someone familiar and trustworthy at his side, all he can do is relax in the comfort of it — even despite the topic at hand.]
... She could come after this place, if we fail. She collected us for scouting this city... Wants us to take what brings in the supplies. The machinery. She knows it's somewhere in the hospital, and she wants it.
[His eyes drift to the apple. He's not hungry, but the sight of it immediately brings recent memories: scraping through dirt for the scraps, feeling some of that grit in his teeth as he swallows down what is enough to stay alive; Connor, quietly holding out a small piece of ration that he'd managed to procure. When he shakes his head again, it seems more to dispel images than to disagree.]
That's why she brought me into the scouting group. Took my gear, my supplies. Withheld food until I finally gave in. [Gaze flicking up to her faze, he confirms:] Not planning on taking anything.
[Furiosa is here now. He'd had hesitations and doubts before, because he has a conscience under all of hardened grime that he's sure his insides are full of. But her here? He'd just as soon take a bullet in the eye than deprive her of the supplies this city is given. He thinks the mission thing, the saving the worlds thing... it's all bullshit.
Her existing in this place, plentiful with food and supplies though?
Doesn't matter how much of a fairy tale it all is.]
no subject
So.
[ She pauses. Her tone on the one word is soft, matching the softening of her expression turn on him for just a moment before she is reminded to jump back to business. This Alrys doesn't sound like the type to just throw her hands up and shrug when things don't go her way. ]
What is your plan? [ And then, with the tone that this is less a question or a suggestion, and more of a command. She is inserting herself into this. ] How can I help?
no subject
[A silent lull follows, but it's not because there's nothing else to say. Rather, he needs a moment to choose his words. He's gotten a little better at them these days, but — mm. Still could use some practice. He clears his throat.]
Need to talk to the others involved... Most of them already have doubts. About wanting to follow through. [If all of them can unite on that front, maybe get Connor to 'deviate'... Then Etraya might have the advantage here. And maybe... maybe they can be salvaged by Aurora. It's probably as obvious as a nose on a face, but Solmara isn't exactly a paradise they all would like to go back to.] If we're all in agreement — we can tell the truth. Try to bargain with Aurora. With Etraya.
[He looks to her.]
If Aurora can keep us... [That's a big 'if', he admits.] Solmara might come looking.
We'll need to be able to keep them back.

(She knows, she knows. She stood rooted under the guise of waiting for opportunity when she had just enough freedom to sometimes forget that she too was a prisoner with a brand on her neck, just serving a different purpose. She remembers the way Cheedo, desperate for the familiar, ran back.)
She glances down to her boots, then again back at Max, still apparently unhappy with this plan. She's not even worried about the apparent fighting back Solmara part. Fighting she can do. ]
And what. [ She presses. ] If Aurora can't— [ or won't? ] —keep you, you just... go back?
[ Not happening. ]
no subject
Might be no helping it. If we're tethered to our cities by Echo. If Aurora can't control where we go.
[That being, whoever it is... they decide where they wind up. Stands to reason it may very well be possible that the AI can't do anything about it.]
... But there's nothing wrong with... mmm... With hoping. Trying.
[Even if they fail, they can do it in a way that they won't regret. And then, they hold their breaths, hope for the possibility of a better future for themselves, instead of being trapped in a place like that.]
no subject
She clicks her tongue once, looking back up at the canopy. ]
Hope, huh.
[ A little huff. An almost laugh is is his almost reward. She gives his wrist another little squeeze. Gives the toe of his boot a little tap from hers. There's some well-deserved ribbing she knows she could dole out, and is showing great restraint in not doing so!
One breath in through her nose. Then out. It strikes her again how clean the air is here.
She doesn't really want to, but she drops his hand. It's important for the demonstration, tugging on the string that binds them together still. ]
Yeah, well. All else fails maybe I can pull you back.
1/2
[Spoken in a harmless kind of matter-of-fact way, and her almost-laugh meets an almost-smile. The thread around their finger is loose, now, but he doesn't pay it much mind; instead, he considers the distance they've traveled to get here.]
You've stopped me from scraping brain on the road before.
no subject
Just don't get stabbed this time.
🎀
She'd spent years tied to people and places she came to resent. This, she can tolerate a little longer. ]
No promises.
