He's ashamed by how frequently he's been driven to tears in the last year alone. But how can he react in any other way to this sight? For the first time, Riz regrets getting proper training in first-aid; if not for his experience, he could almost delude himself into thinking things aren't as awful as they are, that his sallow skin, his fluttering pulse, his faint breaths aren't a sign of imminent death. He scrambles for the vial he'd won and reaches to grab gloves and a clean syringe, but he wastes precious time trying to steady the shaking of his treacherous hands. As tempting as it is to call for help, he can't trust any of them not to simply grab the medicine and sell it for their own benefit. This is no different than when someone's downed on the battlefield, he tells himself sternly, and Fig and Kristen never seem too spooked to be able to do their job.
By some miracle, he manages to calm himself enough to follow due protocol - no point in giving Fabian an infection on top of the poison coursing through his veins - but when he's done, it's nothing like when the others heal. There's no surge of magic, no immediate change, no sudden gasp as Fabian surges up as hale and hearty as he was before. He still looks like he's dying. Without anything left to do, Riz simply contorts himself to fit onto the small bed, one hand resting on the sword he cradles on his lap, the other pressed firmly to Fabian's wrist.
He cries a little more, too, panics a little more, his own pulse as rabbit-quick as Fabian's is sluggish, the surge of fear coming and going in waves. But it's all right, he thinks insistently, as though imagining something into being would make it so, because his tears will be good and dry by the time Fabian wakes. ]
You're gonna be okay. [ His eyes flit over the shallow rise of Fabian's chest. ] And this time I'm not gonna fall asleep, all right? Promise.

Less thankfully is the fact that it doesn't seem to do much else just yet. With Riz staying awake according to his promise, Fabian will just seem to be lying there. Not getting any worse, but not getting any better either. It takes a while - and probably even longer in the other's perception, given Riz's worries about Fabian's physical state - that something else happens.
The half-elf stirs ever so faintly. His eye doesn't open, but his body shifts slightly, his lips part, just enough to whisper: ]
.. The Ball.
[ No 'Riz' this time, apparently, but who knows exactly how conscious Fabian is in this current moment. ]
You're here.
