⏵ CAMP ETRAYA ⏴
On May 16th, Aurora and the companion bots direct those not heading off to Solmara to make their way to Camp Etraya.

Nestled away from everything else in a large clearing full of wildflowers and redwoods, Camp Etraya is a nostalgic summer camp experience put together just for it's residents! Cabins are assigned, scary stories are told around campfires, gossiping happens among friends on the trails surrounding the cabins - and don't be surprised when something goes awry. After all, this is still Etraya.

While the rest of Etraya is still accessible and will not be blocked off, characters are discouraged from venturing far from camp for too long: Aurora will specify that they are on a mission, and that missions do require participation, but she has intentionally left them the freedom to wander. Not sleeping in their assigned cabins, not participating in events, and staying away from Camp Etraya will end with her having to take more extensive security measures, so please be on your best behavior! The last thing she wants to do is start enforcing boundaries, but she will if she has to.

Camp is set up much like your generic summer camp! Each cabin is named, housing is assigned to characters as they arrive, there are camp counselors, and rotating daily tasks and chores. There are also multiple activities that characters are expected to participate in, and each activity is worth points that goes toward their camp graduation score. This score will be visible on their earpiece, and follows the A-F grading system. We are not be monitoring this, and are leaving character scores up to players. We do, however, ask that you please report your characters' camp grade HERE for rewards and demerits to be handed out after the mission itself.

Cabin assignments can be found here, which also has their roles, and chores assigned to that cabin. Those who are participating in Solmara have received an assigned cabin, too, but their absence toward the beginning will not harm the cabin's ability to compete given how spread out their assignments are.

⏵ WELCOME TO CAMP ⏴

Camp life is meant to instill a sense of belonging, connection with nature, encouragement towards the creative, all on top of a firm foundation of responsibility. Upon arriving, campers will be escorted towards a table of white t-shirts and countless buckets of dye!

Each Etrayan will be invited to make three Tie-Dyed shirts- as well as required to wear one as part of their summer uniform. Camp counselors must wear 80s basketball shorts or cut-off jeans. Campers may wear cargo shorts or a skort. For those with physical limitations to what they can wear, accommodations will be provided.

Here, bonding is the camp runners' priority. They will be pushed into various ice-breaker activities, such as trust falls, two truths and a lie, and Never have I Ever. As the sun goes down, there will be weenies roasting over the bonfire, followed by s’mores and a sing-a-long! With the stars well-visible, it’s off to bed with campers.

Each day after will start much the same: with the ringing of the bell and raising of the flag (Aurora, while unfamiliar with flag designs but an understanding of the concept, has chosen a rainbow flag for the camp. Rainbows make people happy, right?), followed by a meal at the Great Hall, morning assembly, activities with counselors, chores, free time, and then an evening winding down by the great fire. An hour after sun down, campers will be escorted back to their cabins for curfew. Camp Counselors are expected to keep track of their campers, and ensure they're all within their cabins for bedtime. This is part of their grade, too! Curfew lifts an hour before the first bell.

⏵ CAMP ACTIVITIES ⏴

As with most summer camps, Camp Etraya offers a wide variety of activities to participate in. While some of these activities may be mandatory, others are optional. We'll be leaving this up to individual player discretion: perhaps Viktor is mandated to report to arts and crafts, whilst it's optional for Silco to show. Silco, on the other hand, may be mandated to report to the archery contest. Characters are encouraged to participate in a minimum of one camp activity per day.

Below is a non-exhaustive list of camp activities.

Three-Legged Race - You and a partner are tied together at your ankles, and you must race others to the finish line. Those with abilities that would give them an advantage will find that the rope that ties them together hinders those abilities from functioning.
Archery - This can be more traditional, magical, or include moving targets! If you're particularly unlucky, your target may even shoot back.
Softball - What instills a sense of camaraderie better than a bit of team sports? Games will be held on Wednesdays, the field is otherwise available for practice.
Dodge Ball - Standing diametrically opposed to Softball is dodge ball, the bully’s sport. This is a great opportunity to claim dominance or be sent to the Nurse’s Office.
Obstacle Course - You are directed into a large maze with multiple obstacles for them to overcome, such as rock climbing walls, ramps, tires, and nets.
Capture the Flag - Small teams are put together in order to take the flag from a particular bot, whose entire goal is to avoid being caught.
Canoe Race - Canoes are placed into the rivers just off of the camp, and characters must race to the finish line.
Chocobo Riding - Learn how to care for and ride these magnificent birds! Newbies will be taken around the corral, whereas more experienced riders can take the trail around the lake.
Arts and Crafts - Make friendship bracelets, bead lizards, paint rocks, learn origami! Or perhaps you're tasked with putting together an enchanted necklace. Don't know how to do enchantments? Now is as good of a time as any to learn.
Campfire stories - Share scary stories amongst yourselves around the campfire late into the night. If you're particularly unlucky, you may just hear the thing you were just warning others about..

⏵ NIGHT TIME ⏴

Once campers have been put to bed, the counselors can still stay up. Unwind with hidden beers and the strumming of a guitar. Don’t get too comfortable, though, since without supervision, no one is keeping the campers in bed.

After dark, should campers evade their counselors, they can go exploring in the dark. Eerie lights glimmer from the lake. There’s rumors of a headless spectre walking from the archery field to the edge of the forest. Should you behave, you still might hear a scratching at your bunk house window.

And on the very last night of camp, there will be a talent show. Show off your hidden talent and bask in the excitement of wowing your fellow campers!

they whimper a little, then huff to mask it, climbing to their feet. they still feel wrung out from the adrenaline crash, but the tail helps with balance. maybe they ought to keep a tail in other forms...

Buhh...o-okay. What's the plan? Can I know the plan before we do it?

[ Carver tilts his head. Staring intently, and utterly motionless as he considers those statements. The way she orders the words. The inflection she chooses. ]

Okay, kid, [ he says slowly, because this is apparently his life now. ] How’re you defining mutant, exactly?

[ While Bruce doesn't say anything, he gives Kirk a knowing look. Yeah, he knows about the vampire thing. He starts walking again, toward the great fire. ]

I hope I wasn't too forward with the honorific. I knew a Kirk Langstrom once. He was a doctor.

[ Summer camp was for rich white kids back in Carver’s day and there weren’t many of those in his circle. He knows a thing or two about camp counselors from movies and, in some ways, from his own experiences as an instructor wrangling young soldiers. He didn’t have to wear shorts or herd anyone into doing crafts, though.

He gives the other man a once-over, scowling. ]

I’d tell you to go fuck a blender, [ he drawls, ] but by God, you’ve beaten me there. Can we drop the charade, please? This is just more AI themed bullshit.

[Kirk follows. He leaves enough distance to be respectable and hopefully not set off Ace]

Not too forward at all. Technically I am one too. But I'm rarely addressed that way back home.

[ Well, damn. Carver’s eyebrows lift and he accepts the beer. It’s even cold. ]

Shame. I was really looking forward to recreating all those bullshit summer camp movies.

[ He lifts the beer in salute. ]

You played it smart. Nobody’s gonna bother you here, huh?

[ Barbara isn't enthused about the notion of being here—and this place sent back home the one person who could have taken that vague crack of willingness to try regardless, that's always in Barbara and blown it bright, wide open. As is, sans Dick, and even plus Haley, she less than inclined to try. At least when one of her family members isn't around. The only reason she is doing her mandatory assignments and cabin chores, is because she still needs the mission points to turn on the third of the three massive computer systems her family has in this place.

That's her real job, even if it requires doing these jobs.

She's not going out of her way to join into things, though occasionally, she does wander around, out of sheer restlessness and an instinctual reaction to the level of shrieking (that has everything to do with almost colliding canoes causing laughter and not people attacking each other in the streets), when she spots Harold—sitting alone. Not far off from the same sight. ]

Considering making your big splash, Harold?

[ Now that Kirk's opened the door to it, Bruce doesn't mind slithering in to ask more personal questions. They're getting to know each other so it's fine. ]

Gotham?

[Kirk nods. It's an easy conclusion to make in Etraya. There appears to be an unusual concentration of Gothamites from different Earths. Most of them probably know some iteration of each other back home. But for Kirk, he doesn't recognize them]

Are from there too?

[She may be younger than him but, really, he's going to be like that? Two can play that game. ]

Well, old man, a mutant is someone born with an X-gene. Mutations normally manifest themselves during puberty. Although, some do exhibit at birth.

[ It's curious. This man is clearly Batman and the thought doesn't bother him. He's met plenty of alternate versions of himself and the current Batman in his world is decidedly not Bruce Wayne. But it does beg the question what became of Bruce in Kirk's world? Did he die with his parents? Did his parents never die at all? ]

I am. I'm Bruce. Bruce Wayne.

[ There's the bait. He'll see if Kirk will take it. ]

Vax wasn't the only one who was disinclined to follow all the rules. Paine might have been convinced that Aurora was telling the truth about the situation, but she certainly wasn't convinced that s'mores and singsongs had anything to do with proving Spira was worth saving.

What had saved Spira sure as hell wasn't blind obedience. (Admittedly, it had at one point been helped by a singsong. But that was beside the point. Paine needed a better reason than a robot lady's weird ideas to do that.)

She wasn't too surprised to see that she wasn't the only one poking venturing past the edge of camp, back in the direction of the city. A little interested that it was Vax, the guy she'd helped defend civilians back aboard the Oppression Express. "Aren't you out after curfew?" she said wryly, fully aware that she was up to the same thing.

[ Contrary to the stereotype, there’s no way to reliably tell when a person’s lying a hundred percent of the time. But there are certain tics and behaviors that can be observed, body language, micro expressions. All the shit that Carver learned when he was training as an interrogator.

And this kid?

She believes it. He’d bet a whole lot on that.

He sucks on his teeth. Teenagers. Goddamn, he did not miss wrangling them. ]

Uh huh. You know what? I’m just gonna go with that. Embrace the crazy.

[ What else can you do? ]

Savior bit’s the lie. That’s what I’m going with.

[Speedsters...Hope's mouth twists in annoyance, and then she looks at the person--um, camper now standing next to her. ]

I can make another. They won't let me use anything that would make it more challenging, though.

[She's of the mind that if they want to save their world, people should work for it. Apparently, her ideas were a little too much for those who are actually baseline human amongst the campers. ]

I didn't know there were speedsters here, or I would have tried putting in road blocks to slow you down.

[Huh... An unexpected response. Kirk looks at Bruce curiously]

The Waynes are an influential family in my Gotham. Old money but seem genuinely charitable.

[They're certainly not one of the corrupt people Kirk has had to investigate]

The Bruce in my world was a classmate of mine. We both attended Gotham U.

But at least it's a voice Barbara doesn't take offense at or annoyance in distracting her. Finding Jason lowering himself to Haley to give her the attention she's obviously so desperately never gotten from any other source of person, or hand, in the whole universe, in the whole length of her life. There's a tilt to Babs' mouth that isn't a smile but doesn't lack an edge of welcome.

"You'd think we were all anti-social or something."

[ Ororo isn't small, thanks, these hips don't lie!

But she smiles wryly when they call her panties craft trim because oh, this might be a difficult conversation. But she will persevere. ]

Then... may I see the "trim", as you call it? It might turn out to be what I am looking for, and I would like to have them back.

[ Still alive then. There's...some relief in hearing that. At least there's some version of himself out there not forced into a life of vigilantism. A shame it fell on Kirk instead. ]

That sounds familiar. What was he like, if I may ask?

[ It's hard to tell if Barbara is considering what's on the table, or just judging it for existing at her. Arts and crafts are definitely not something Barbara has signed herself up for. Sure, there were the occasional one or two things while Cass was learning to read and write, because of everything she researched for helping build those links.

But for herself.

This is like the whole "every little girl has a dream wedding."
Barbara had better things to do with her childhood.

You were always more social, while being kidnapped and forced to play kiddie games is a new one, I think.

[ Scratch gets lots of pets as he runs up, John unperturbed by the excited greeting. He is, in fact, glad to see Scratch. Not just because he likes the dog, but also for a chance to see the dog's owner. He offers Shadowheart an amused half smile that's more open and sure than any one he's given her before. ]

[what do you MEANNNN it wasn't belt-shaped and it wasn't shirt or pant-shaped and skivvies are an unknowable universe of whatever-the-fuck!

they make a reluctant noise, setting the sheets they were sifting down and patting themself down.

[Kirk wonders if what he's saying about the Waynes strikes a chord for this Bruce. So far the man is taking it in stride]

Air-headed but good-natured. With all that wealth and influence, he didn't need to attend university. But he's mentioned that he wanted to because it was more interesting than just attending galas. Academically, he did rather well. Apparently he has a knack for engineering.

Jason snorts.

"Yeah, like we spend our whole lives in a cave or something."

A dry joke to help with the comradery of being stuck in forced socialization.

[ from the look on her face, he's able to tell that's not something she was expecting. it's fair, whether it's him or simply him able to pass through the obstacles, he can't tell, but he does assist in helping. ]

You should account for more than that.

[ he may be a "speedster" as she calls it, but he's been through enough testing that this is almost child's play to him. though, she did admit that she's not allowed to make it as challenging as she wants given the supplies she has to work with.

that being said, he looks upon the others in the maze a little bored. ]

It depends on what you use as "road blocks". [ which he doubts will cause a problem for him. ]
