It's only thanks to Aurora's message that Adaine has any idea what day it is. She looks at the text on her earpiece's readout and blinks, comprehension coming to her slowly.

Today is June 3rd, of the year 40██.

June 3rd...

June 3rd??

"Holy shit, it's my birthday!"

Adaine's birthdays haven't been much to shake a stick at, historically speaking. It's only in the past year, after she stopped living with her parents and moved in with Jawbone in Mordred Manor that anyone ever gave a crap or tried to give her anything for it. If it hadn't been for Jawbone, she might've been perfectly happy to let another year pass without fanfare. But now? She wants to at least acknowledge it. She'd be happy with just a slice of cake at the diner, but there's one thing that makes her think that perhaps that won't cut it.

If today is June 3rd, Adaine's birthday, then that means a few days ago it was May 31st. Fabian's birthday. And Fabian Seacaster is not one to let a birthday celebration be anything but maximum legend.

And, so it is that the two birthday Bad Kids set about throwing as raucous of a birthday bash as they can manage with such short lead time. The rec room in the bottom floor of the apartment building is decorated to the nines with balloons and streamers, with snacks, sodas, and even some alcohol to make mixed drinks set out on a table for all to enjoy. Anyone who the pair have spoken with is invited, but if anyone makes any comments about teenagers drinking alcohol, they're labeled a buzzkill and told to vacate the premises. Adaine manages to find a boombox somewhere with a CD, and plays some generic party music for people to dance to, should they feel so inclined.

All in all, it is a night of revelry, the likes of which Etraya has likely never seen before.

[ Asuka hesitates, her expression a bit like she's seen a large bug - and then she very reluctantly takes his hand. ]

Oh, I'm not gonna follow anyone's lead. Don't you worry about that!

[ She has done some dancing before after all. Although not really in the same context. ]

What kind of dancing do you do anyway?

[ It's like he doesn't even notice that look she gave him.. Considering it's Fabian, maybe he really was oblivious to it, or maybe this is just wilful ignorance. It could be either, really.

But he does answer her question on their way as he starts leading her in the direction of the dance floor. ]

Anything! Is it not important to be a man of multiple talents?

[ Multiple.. dance talents.. ]

Or were you asking me because you have a preference? I could do classical ballroom dancing, if you'd want to get dipped by a handsome guy!

I don't think multiple dance talents is even a thing.

[ She is a little skeptical here, obviously. ]

And no! No, I do not want to do ballroom dancing! I don't need any kind of dipping going on, thanks very much!

[ Aw, she's flustered again. ]

But pick something - something music appropriate!

Alright, alright! [ He's still laughing though, clearly not too affected by her attitude at all. Like he's taking it all just in stride. ]

I'll make sure to keep it music appropriate. You sure have a lot of demands, but what kind of maximum legend would I be if I couldn't live up to them, huh? Especially when it comes to dance!

[ At least they have made it to the dance floor by now. And when Fabian pulls her into a dance, it seems like he's keeping himself to his words. No ballroom dancing. It's definitely more modern and lighter than that - very appropriate for a party. If anything, it all seems to come very naturally to him. There's even something about the way he dances that makes it very easy for Asuka to naturally join along, like Fabian is so good at dancing that it's pretty easy for him to twist his dance in such a way that he projects more clearly to his dance partner how the other should move along.

And he's got a smile on his face the entire time, like he sure is enjoying himself. Apparently this is something Fabian is just good at, all other himbo traits aside. ]

So, is it up to snuff?

[ She can't help but blush as she allows herself to be whirled onto the dance floor. She hasn't done a lot of dancing, not like this and it's.. fun. And a little flattering, even if she's still not quite sure how she totally feels about it. She's a quick learner, though, and she eases into it, matching him step for step and finding the rhythm.

Surprise, surprise, she's actually having a good time. ]

It's alright.

[ She replies, trying not to be too free with her praise - but she is smiling. ]

[ The answer is so simple, and yet Fabian smiles like he just won a gold medal at the Olympics, rather than receiving the most basic of praises for a normal activity at a party. ]

You know, if you are making me work for it like this, then winning a smile from you feels really special. [ He points out - lightly teasing while still dancing.

He even winks. With his one eye, which means it looks more like he closes his eyes for a moment, but-- trust me, it's a wink. ]

[ Oh no, why is he cute? Asuka has very little (read: no) experience with really flirting with anyone or being flirted with beyond the attention of fourteen-year-olds so this is a lot for her poor teenage heart to handle. Her cheeks flush and she quickly looks away. ]

Oh, shut up.

[ She's embarrassed - and not sure she wants or deserves the attention. But here she is. ]

You're just saying that-! [ But it does please her somewhere deep down. ]

Come on. Do you really think I'd put all this effort in for no reason?

[ Granted, 'all this effort' is.. kind of relative. It's not like Fabian is doing all that much. At worst he's just going out of his way to be nice, but that feels kind of natural to him with anyone who isn't an asshole. ]

You always seem so tense! [ Or at least, she does whenever he comes across her. ] I just want you to be able to stop holding everything up on your shoulders and let go every once in a while. Too much stress can kill you, you know!

[ There's not that much effort to it, true. But it still makes her feel perceived and she's not sure whether she thinks that's a good thing or not. A part of her glows with the thought that someone (anyone) looks at her and thinks she's attractive. Worth keeping around.

Another part finds that terrifying. ]

Why should I relax considering what we're up against?

[ The objection doesn't have quite as many teeth as it could have, considering she's still dancing with him. ]

A lot of things can kill you - let me worry about how tense I am!

[ But he notices her, doesn't he? Isn't that what she wants? ]

Besides, I can handle it. It's not that bad!

[ He's still smiling. ]

I know. You're tough.

[ Even if he didn't see her face any sort of monster back there in the maze, she still tackles that challenge they were instead stuck with pretty well. Not to mention that she told him the stuff about piloting and all that - you can't do that unless you're tough, right?

No, it's certainly not any fragility that Fabian is worried about here. ]

But that doesn't mean that I can't think of you anyway, right? Even people who are tough run into all sorts of trouble! Especially when this place is throwing such strange things at us without a care on their part.

[ She mutters, glancing away- ]

Don't patronize me.

[ But she is pleased by the praise. It's... nice to have someone say that about her, even if she's not sure it's true. Even if she's not sure she can believe him. ]

You can do what you want, alright? It's not like I can reach into your brain and turn that part off! Even if I probably should.

[ Now the smile is widening into a grin.

Wrong thing to say, Asuka! Apparently you're just egging him on, since Fabian can't help but tease her in the face of what she's saying, leaning just a little bit closer to her to say: ]

What, do you want to reach into my brain? Maybe I would let you, if you truly wanted to be that close to me. [ BOY, NO!!!!! ]

[ Fabian, please, you don't wanna be anywhere close to in this girl's brain. Her expression goes a little pale, like she's remembering something a little (a lot) unpleasant. Sorry - wrong thing to say to her, even if she's (kind of) enjoyed the sort-of flirting up 'til now. ]

No. I don't want to reach into anyone's stupid head! [ It's a lower, more intense hiss. The vibe is off. ]

[ Uh oh.

Sure, Fabian can be pretty thoughtless at times. Or maybe more just straight up oblivious, not really catching on to certain things before it's already too late. And while it's too late in a sense here too - he can't unsay the words he said a moment ago, after all - he at least does notice that the vibe is off before he presses too far.

It makes him stop for a moment. Fabian blinks, like he's trying to figure out what's wrong here. He can't really figure it out with how little he knows about Asuka, and-- well, hearing her tone, asking about it probably isn't going to make it any better. Especially when Asuka seems to love to yell.

So he changes tracks entirely. Or tries to, anyway. ]

Alright! Hey-- fine!

[ He throws up his hand, palm out, as a gesture of peace.

Yes, even while dancing. ]

Anything you wish, Asuka. [ The dumb grin is still there, but at least it's a little less intense now. ] I hope you know I'm truly devoted to making your every wish come true!

[ .. even if it's just.. shutting up about something, apparently. ]

[ The sudden gear shift isn't unnoticed, but she doesn't quite know what to do about it. It's what she wanted, right? For him to sto ptalking about it? It still doesn't feel like much of a triumph. But that's true of everything that has to do with her stupid memories and her stupid emotions, so she tries to just push past it and ignore it. Instead she focuses on the dancing. ]

You keep saying that.

[ She scoffs. ]

You don't even know what I want. What if I want something impossible? What would you even do then?

[ She also settles on continuing to be difficult. ]

Do the impossible?

[ Even though she's trying so hard to be difficult here, Fabian answers without even missing a beat, showing her a playful smile full of teeth. ]

Really, that's just about the most simple question you have asked me today! [ He shakes his head as he dances. ] You think that Fabian Aramais Seacaster of all people can't do the impossible? If so, you truly have too little faith in me! There is nothing I cannot do!

...shut up.

[ She ducks her head, feeling her cheeks start to burn. This is stupid. He's stupid. Him and his stupid, good-looking smile. ]

No one's good at everything. [ Even if that sounds a bit like something she would've said not too long ago. ]

There's loads of stuff you couldn't do, I bet! [ Sorry, Fabian... she's pushing back for her own weird reasons. ]

[ He lets out a 'pfftt' kind of sound. An overconfident sound.

The kind of sound Fabian usually makes about ten seconds before he does something stupid that gets him almost driven over by the Hangvan. ]

I bet there's loads of stuff I can do.

[ That's a dangerous bet you're making there, Fabian.. ]

How about you tell me something I could do for you, and then I prove I can do it, huh?

Well- I don't know-

[ She's on the spot now, oops. ]

I'll have to come up with something. But just you wait!

[ Jury is out on whether she actually will think of something... ]

Oh, I'll wait alright!

[ Who even knows whether Fabian thinks Asuka will actually manage to think of something in time or not..

But regardless of whether it's fake or genuine confidence, he's wearing said confidence all over anyway. ]

You won't ever be able to catch Fabian Aramais Seacaster off guard, trust me!

We'll see about that.

[ She doesn't have anything right now, tragically.

But she is thinking. ]

I bet you can't pilot a robot. [ OK, she's cheating a little. ]

[ He lets out a 'pfftt' sound. ]

Of course I've never tried before, but that is just since we do not have robots of that size where I come from!

[ .. none he's ever met before, anyway. ]

I bet I could do it if I tried! [ In fact, he seems to have a realization on the spot.. ] Hey, Asuka, does your robot have room for two in there?

...in theory, but it doesn't really work like that.

[ She slows a little, her dancing starting to trickle off into just standing. ]

It's not here anyway.

But what if it could be here?

[ Fabian dances for maybe a few moments longer, but then he also stops - grabbing her hand to tug her off the middle of the dance floor and a little bit more off to the side before letting go. He then instead uses that hand to excitedly gesture. ]

Wouldn't that be great? I bet we'd stand a real chance of standing up to the things in charge here that way! You'd probably be so badass with it!

...I don't want it here.

[ Which is the truth. There's too much weirdness around it now. She folds her arms as they come to a stop away from the dance floor. ]

There's no way I'd even be able to power it! Or keep it up and running!
