It's only thanks to Aurora's message that Adaine has any idea what day it is. She looks at the text on her earpiece's readout and blinks, comprehension coming to her slowly.

Today is June 3rd, of the year 40██.

"Holy shit, it's my birthday!"

Adaine's birthdays haven't been much to shake a stick at, historically speaking. It's only in the past year, after she stopped living with her parents and moved in with Jawbone in Mordred Manor that anyone ever gave a crap or tried to give her anything for it. If it hadn't been for Jawbone, she might've been perfectly happy to let another year pass without fanfare. But now? She wants to at least acknowledge it. She'd be happy with just a slice of cake at the diner, but there's one thing that makes her think that perhaps that won't cut it.

If today is June 3rd, Adaine's birthday, then that means a few days ago it was May 31st. Fabian's birthday. And Fabian Seacaster is not one to let a birthday celebration be anything but maximum legend.

And, so it is that the two birthday Bad Kids set about throwing as raucous of a birthday bash as they can manage with such short lead time. The rec room in the bottom floor of the apartment building is decorated to the nines with balloons and streamers, with snacks, sodas, and even some alcohol to make mixed drinks set out on a table for all to enjoy. Anyone who the pair have spoken with is invited, but if anyone makes any comments about teenagers drinking alcohol, they're labeled a buzzkill and told to vacate the premises. Adaine manages to find a boombox somewhere with a CD, and plays some generic party music for people to dance to, should they feel so inclined.

All in all, it is a night of revelry, the likes of which Etraya has likely never seen before.

[She was just mentally hyperventilating into a bag about underaged drinking, smoking, sex, potential deaths happening while she was wasting her time hanging around with people she didn't like.

She shrugs.]

You did invite me. Adaine and I fought a bug together. [Is that grounds for a party invitation? She doesn't know. She doesn't like them.

She also genuinely can't imagine anyone wanting to "get to know" her that wouldn't be put off by everything that she would have to share. Or horribly bored for anything that isn't either horribly sad or uncomfortable.]

I'm not sure there's much to know, honestly. You guys seem a lot more colorful.

Well, it is pretty difficult to get on our level, I'll admit.

[ Fabian apparently doesn't do humble bragging. Only full out bragging. It's hard to determine if being called colourful is really something you can brag about - though the guy seems to be doing it all the same, like it is a compliment to him.

He's definitely taking it to mean 'interesting.' ]

But that doesn't mean there can't be anything fun about you! [ He shrugs a little, gesturing at her with his glass of bad baby milk. ] Come on, surely you have a fun fact to share! I'm ready for it! I'll even share one in return, if that makes you feel better about it!

[And yet, the very question causes something to short circuit in her brain. A fun fact about her? What's a fun fact about her that isn't fundamentally sad? She used to collect coins? She had a tumblr?

She went to prison for mutilating her sister in what was and wasn't an accident?

The distress shines through on her face without her even noticing.]

[ .. that's the clear 'oh' of someone who has absolutely no clue what that means. It's obvious even before Fabian continues - from his tone, from his facial expression. From the kind of empty stare in his eyes as his brain tries to process something it can't do anything with. It's not even on purpose, he'd love to encourage her to share more by welcoming this fun fact, it's just-- he doesn't know what it means..!! ]

Is that some sort of.. god thing..?

[ She did say before that her powers had nothing to do with religion, right. But from what Fabian knows from other classes, an Oath said in that sort of way does sound like it ought to be a god thing.

[Her brow furrows. How many times does she have to explain she's not religious.]

What? No. [There's a beat. Where she realizes that's not technically 100% correct.] Well. Originally, yeah. Like - historically it originates in a long dead religious vow. But it's fully secular nowadays.

It's just like - a vow to do no harm, pay heed to the responsibility that you bear as a healer. Stuff like that. Most people just know the do no harm part.

Yeah, but vows are usually a god sort of thing where I come from.

[ Though it's not like he's doubting her explanation. It's more that Fabian is trying to explain where the religious assumption came from once more.. Sorry, Amy, it's not your fault that doctors are extremely religion-coded in any D&D world out there. ]

Who do you vow it to then? [ He considers it for a moment, and then suggests: ] Just.. to people as a whole? To yourself?

[ Look, Fabian has never had to make a vow before! It's kind of interesting, especially as low-stakes party talk. Not to mention that he doesn't mind learning some more about the people he's met here and the weird places they come from. ]

The law? Medicine as a whole? I don't know. I was like, fifteen. It's like a tradition you have to go through to get your medical licence.

[She shrugs.

It was important to her as a fundamental building block of her own morality. A crutch she could lean on whenever she was tempted to use her extraordinary gifts for something other than healing.]

If you break it, you lose your licence to practice medicine. Or in my case, use my powers I guess.

[At least in theory. When you can cure cancer in a matter of moments, practicality tends to win out over ethical concerns.]

Fabian seems to take this information in with casual interest at first, and then perhaps just a bit more of a reaction near the end there. Just enough of an reaction for him to frown a little. ]

Damn, sounds rough.

[ Fabian may not have a whole lot of magic that he's super attached to - even the powers he gained as a bard have mostly been of use to further his swordplay, to make him a little faster on the battlefield and give him some more flourish - but even so.. that doesn't exactly seem fun, even to him. ]

I mean, don't they trust you to make your own decisions? [ Granted, Fabian, she did say she had to swear it at fifteen.. Not exactly everyone's most responsible age.. ] You seem smart enough to do that.

Seriously what is that reaction. Of all the upsetting things about her life, why does THIS garner sympathy?

She just sort of blinks at him, more than a little taken aback.]

Well - I mean, I chose to take the oath. For... a few reasons. All of them have way less to do with trust and way more to do with legal precautions against any like, public hangups about an unlicenced medical professional handing out treatment with no proper certification.

Besides... they were never actually going to stop me from using my power. It's too useful. [Regarding this, she knows her worth at least. They didn't want to send her to the Birdcage. Amy had to threaten to unleash a world ending plague to get them to relent.]

It's really just about as close to a fun fact as it gets with me. Nothing that serious.

[She spent her entire childhood under a magnifying glass. Leveraged as a tool for the good of humanity. They didn't trust her in the slightest of course, but regarding this... this was just PR.]

[ Sorry, Amy. This is apparently what happens when you try to introduce a little bit too much real life stuff to someone who comes from a fantasy world.. Even someone who comes from a fantasy world that's more like your regular modern human world than most fantasy worlds! They just won't understand the right context of what you're talking about!

At least Fabian easily seems to take in this correction with a small shrug, not nearly as taken aback as her. ]

Alright. Seems like we're going to have to work a little bit on the fun facts sharing game at the party, considering we all come from such different worlds.

[ Or they're all just going to get confused at each other, apparently! Lesson learned.

(To be fair, most of the fun facts that Fabian could share about himself would baffle absolutely anyone.) ]

You should try going around the party though! Talk to some of the people here, meet some of them! I only invited the best of the best. [ Fabian, you literally invited every single person you did as much as exchange two words with, boy!!

And yet he says it so confidently. Like it's true, and like he did go through an entire selection process for these invites. ]
