Intimately. My work brought me here often.

[Often enough that he had been away from home during the worst moment of his life.

[ Vincent can understand an attachment to a place like this if it has such personal significance, as well as a strong connection to one's world.

As for himself, Vincent generally avoids people, but he’s perfectly capable of getting along or at least behaving when he means to. ]

[Home was beautiful. Home was perfect. He had lost his connection to both and now his family is broken, a frame without a canvas. He can attempt to bring the pieces together but nothing will feel precisely the same.

His hand gently rocks his cane, his thoughts racing back and forth, between one world and another.]

Home is the best place I have known, monsieur. Incomparable is but a word to describe her magnificence.

[He does not call home beautiful.]

I have no talent for art, but I can enjoy it.

[ Though Vincent doesn't sound like the type of man who enjoys much, given the somber sound of his voice. That's just normal for him. ]

I wouldn't mind hearing more about your world, if you care to paint a picture.

[ With words, he means. Not that he'd object to an illustration, either. ]

A happy home. A family home. One wife. Three children.

[Home is not only a place but the people who share your life. Home is also where you live and who you hold in your heart.]

We indulged in pleasant strolls amongst public gardens and took lunch at a cafe inside this museum. There was no need to leave a city that cared for our every need.

[Indulged. Took. There. The present meets the past as he uses the past to describe the present.]

[ Vincent's brow lifts slightly as the man describes such an idyllic life. A family. A home to share. Lovely outings. ]

It sounds perfect.

[ Though Vincent knows nothing is ever perfect, no matter what one thinks. Still, Renoir was a rich man. ]

I have not known such things. You must be eager to return to your world and your family.

My world is no longer in a pleasant state, monsieur. The planet has changed for the worst.

[One can only wonder what happened to a loving family in that situation. One can only imagine what happened to a peaceful world.]

I confess it would be better they were here only because the world is no longer perfect.

[loveandsin]

[ Vincent frowns softly behind his cowl, his brow knitting under the drape of his hair. ]

My world is also in a changing state, falling into ruin. Slowly dying. However, there are those who would fight against what is trying to perpetuate its end.

[ He has no one like a family back home to worry about while he's here, though. ]

I hope your family is safe.

[Renoir listens without a show of disinterest. His focused gaze highlights the crags and lines of his face. His voice is solemn and low.]

They will be safe should promises made here come to pass.

[Though he has seen no evidence his world can be saved, nor that it might be released from its destruction.]

But fighting against the inevitable is a thankless endeavor. These people must be valiant.

[ Inevitable? ]

Some doubt what we've been told. I have not yet decided.

[ They have been given both threats and promises. Vincent is not entirely convinced of anything here, but perhaps he will be swayed the longer he remains. ]

[Inevitable. One word chosen from many. Renoir knows he could have decided upon any other, but he is not above using those he deems necessary when the choice is between strangers and family.]

You can only decide upon what your emotions tell you what you want.

[He angles his head in consideration.]

Your eyes can ignore what you are seeing while your mind can make you believe the lie.

Do you believe you've seen enough to convince you that all of our worlds are doomed without intervention?

[ Renoir certainly believes his own is. And Vincent knows his world is under threat, but that did not concern other worlds or Echo. It was due to one man and Vincent's own past sins. ]

[betenoir]

I have seen nothing suggestive of poor or positive outcomes. Nor can I understand the fate of any world but mine.

[The intervention of the powers here in preserving his own world? Nothing but empty promises.]

And please do not interpret this incorrectly, monsieur. Maybe it is a cruelty to confess other worlds do not concern me much as my own. But that does not mean I wish anything but the best for yours.

[Except for one where the reasons are private and painful and none of his business.]

[ Vincent shakes his head a little. Renoir does not need to explain himself. ]

My world is my priority, just as your world and your family are yours.

[ They both have something they wish to save. Vincent hopes saving their worlds will not mean sacrificing another, but he imagines, if it came down to it, many would make the same choice. ]

In the meantime, you can call on me for help here.

[Renoir studies Vincent for a moment. How solemn is this man when it comes to honoring vows?]
