Cause I Hit What I Aim For (Bruce Wayne, The Batman)
[Jason is busy scrambling eggs for him and Bruce in the kitchen when it happens. In one moment, he's stirring the eggs, hand on the handle of the pan and in the next, Jason disappears. Right out of Etraya's window of existence. The pan clatters to the floor, eggs spill onto the tile, but there's no sign of Jason. Another beat passes and then Jason is suddenly standing back at the stove-top, looking pale, his eyes distant before they roll back in his head and he collapses down into the mess of eggs. His head barely misses the edge of the counter as he goes down.

He stares blankly up at the ceiling, completely unaware of anything around him as the memories of the crowbar, that twisted face, play beneath the surface.]



Cause I Might End the Game For You (Jason Todd, WFA)

[Rest is what's been prescribed for Jason after he emerged from his apparent death at the hands of the Joker, but he can't stay helpless in a bed just waiting for the Joker to show up in Etraya. So he takes his new bike and runs, deeper into Nova City. He glances up to see a familiar face and his anger suddenly stokes white hot in his chest as he begins a pursuit.]

Hey! Asshole!

[He'll carry out this chase as long as needed to get up high enough to fight the older Jason. Why didn't they warn him?]



Could Laugh It Off and Keep Running (Chrissy, Stranger Things)

[The first moment he can escape Bruce, Jason runs. He takes to his bike and speeds across town to one person he knows he can trust, who has been there for him every step of the way. He nearly crashes as his disorientation continues to cloud his mind. He climbs the stairs two, then three at a time. He doesn't knock so much as bang on the door. He's determined to get in, to hide, to find comfort where he can.]

Chrissy!

[He's probably disturbing her neighbors but he doesn't fucking care. When she does open the door, he's pale, shaking, and sweating.]

( he swallows at those words — forces himself to keep looking there to the boy. to his son. hand still holding to the back of his head. )

You are. You're... worth so much more than you realize.

( again, he swallows. )

You are to me.

[Jason quietly scrutinizes Bruce's face for any signs of falsehood, of any signs that these platitudes might be empty. He doesn't want false reassurances. He wants the real thing in the wake of such a trauma.

He's about to make a comment that he's not worth shit to his Bruce when this Bruce clarifies.

You are to me.

Jason presses his lips together, takes a breath and then the tears start again, slipping down his cheeks as he nods.]

( the fact that there's practically nothing he can do to fix this for him... it breaks parts of him in ways he hasn't felt for some time now and so he just clings to the boy there in front of him. pulls him in close. lets him know that he's here with him and that he has him right now. later, he might need to speak to his other self about this and that will go swimmingly but for now, he only intends to be here with jason... even if he has no idea what to do. )

I got you.

[Jason cries into Bruce’s shirt in a way he hasn’t in a long time. It’s a desperate sob of an abandoned boy, a boy who tried to demonstrate his worth and died in the process.

A boy who has come home to his father after behing left out in the cold.]

‘m sorry.

( his head shakes almost instantly when that broken apology comes from jason's lips. )

No. You don't... you don't have to say that.

( hand remains there at the back of his head and he holds tighter to him there, a means to try and reassure him through the way he protectively holds him there on the bathroom floor. )

[Jason continues to cry until he’s exhausted and then some. The tears slow but only because there’s nothing left. He leans his face into Bruce’s shoulder and wishes he could will the memories away, dismiss the fear still crawling along his skin. It’s a sickening aftershock as his body remembers every hit, one after another.]

( he hasn't dealt with anything like this before — doesn't know what he could possibly offer in terms of advice in what to do after... everything that's happened. it leaves him at a loss for words and he doesn't like that he can't do anything to lessen the pain for jason. at least nothing comes to mind right now, other than simply being here with him and holding him close to him. )

Yeah. ( he agrees. ) Stay with me tonight. I mean... if you want.

( in his room. so he can keep an eye on him. )

[Jason lifts his head an inch, just enough so he can be properly heard. The concept of Bruce staying extra close to him is so foreign. His Bruce would be on a plane to some far away place already.]
