⏵ build-up to the race ⏴ Aurora has organized a competitive event, unlike missions past: an all-out build-and-race derby! This mission is all about working together (or against each other) to design, construct, and customize your ride! Show some creativity, and gain a few extra points maybe - or show some grit, and get bonus points that way! Don't worry, there's always an edge of rivalry: a few twists and tricks await to keep everyone on their toes! As of November 8th, a temporary garage has been set up close to the hospital, with bays for each team. The team assignments are: TEAM ONE Dazai, Hernan Guerra, Chrollo, Vincent TEAM TWO Katsuki Bakugo, Damian Wayne (Robin), Vash the Stampede, Barnabas Tharmr TEAM THREE John Reese, Harold Finch, Chrissy Cunningham, Sam Carpenter TEAM FOUR Castiel, Dean Winchester, Junior, Kyra Vashenko-Chao TEAM FIVE Manny, Shanks, Monkey D. Luffy, Loki TEAM SIX Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd, Yuri Leclerc, 6, 37 TEAM SEVEN Cloud Strife, Rufus Shinra, Sleeper, Asano Rin TEAM EIGHT Deku Midoriya, Cid Telamon, Jason Todd, Gorgug Thistlespring TEAM NINE Accelerator, Timothy Drake, Trafalgar Law, Vax'ildan TEAM TEN Octavia Blake, Mal Durrish, Wanda Maximoff, Rosie Each bay is labeled with the names of those in each team, but the plaque where the team's name would be remains blank. Instead, a marker resides beside the placard: teams must choose their name, and add it themselves. Within each bay are all the parts needed to put together a vehicle on one's own. Parts and tools are clearly labeled, and a few instruction manuals for numerous different kinds of vehicles are lying about. Each team is welcome to dive right in, but there's also a twist: special parts are available - but you have to earn them! Several Companion Bots have set up shop just outside the garage, ready to hand out everything from turbo boosters to reinforced tires. However, every special part can't be bought but has to be earned. Want a top-notch engine? Maybe a late-night group watch for any shooting stars will earn you one. Want some wicked cool brakes that make handling those curves in the road significantly easier? Maybe you and a teammate will get sent on a fun scavenger hunt for special stones scattered throughout Etraya - or maybe they'll have to commit a prank on another team to get it. Sign-ups for special parts can be found HERE - let us know what your team is looking for (shielding, brakes, tires, etc) and we'll give you a task for their team to complete to earn it! Need some direction? The Companion Bots are happy to lend a hand, even if they aren't able to directly interfere! Decorate not just your vehicles, but also the bay assigned to your team. There's plenty of paint, spare parts, and props! While Aurora and the Companion Bots provide the essential parts, it's up to the teams themselves to put together their vehicles - so have fun building! Complete mini-missions for additional, special parts, which may also assist your team in winning the race itself. Or one can always sabotage other teams in order to raise their chances of winning. The world is your oyster - have fun with it! ⏵ you bet! ⏴ Not everyone is up for hands-on work; those that either choose to put their focus elsewhere, or maybe in addition to participating in the race, can also choose to participate in betting rounds. Set up in Harry's Hideaway Pub, a couple of the Companion Bots have set up a mini-casino, equipped with screens keeping an eye on the outside of the bays and facing the tracks that have yet to be completed. Here, you can place your bets on which team will finish their build first, who will get the best parts, and which car will have the most flair - or perhaps which will fall apart first once they're out on the track. The currency used here? The points one earns for participating in the world of Etraya and previous missions. Put down five, and earn back ten for being correct - or lose out on what you've given, if it goes that way. ⏵ NOTES ⏴ This is part one of our race mission! [ when will you learn, dean? ]

Are you going to talk to the helper bots?

Movie, Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, all that. We'll watch it sometime.

[ literally never ]

Yeah, might as well - they should be able to help. I wanna get all the best stuff we can so I can get this sucker put together. Really make it awesome.

[messenger]

[ well, okay. ]

All right.

[venatoris]

...Right. So.

[ He'll pull out the little list from the helper bot, then point to the polaroid camera sitting on a workbench. ]

We gotta get to snappin' pics.

[messenger]

You already talked to them?

[ he steps to dean to look at the paper in his hands. ]

What do we have to do?

[venatoris]

[ He'll hand it over for Cas to look over then go for the camera, make sure there's film inside. ]

Uh, take pictures of some of those things. Three, I think.

[messenger]

[ he has to take a step back when dean moves away, because of how close he had leaned. his eyes follow him around the room, slip of paper clutched in one hand. ]

How many parts did you ask for?

[venatoris]

[ Dean is so used to Cas being up his ass these days. Nothing he can do about it, he's given up entirely. ]

So far, shielding, some good tires, and nitro.

[messenger]

Ah. One for each, then.

[venatoris]

Yeah, pretty much. You in to help me?

[messenger]

Yes.

[ of course.

castiel takes another step in back dean's in direction, casually stuffing the paper in his coat pocket. ]

Where should we start?

[ castiel's mapped out the lay of the land, but dean has been here far longer. he'll have a better idea of where they should go, and maybe he asked the helper bot for some direction...? ]

[venatoris]

Well, I got a little info from the bots.

[ but the player has no fucking clue so we're rolling with it ]

Forest to start. Most of this is out where there's no buildings, which makes sense. I've never seen any of these around the city.

[messenger]

All right.

[ castiel is reaching out — to "zap" dean where they need to go, no doubt. dean will have to tell him better if that's not how he wants to do this. ]

[venatoris]

[ Dean isn't crazy about being zapped, makes pooping hard, but even he can admit it's faster. ]

Wait.

[ No way. Nope. He is so not about finding laxatives in this place. ]

We’re driving. My baby, specifically. C’mon.

[messenger]

[ well, they probably couldn't drive the contraption they're building just yet, so this makes sense to him. he follows dean out of the garage, picking up the camera — and the six pack — to take with them, before settling into the passenger side seat. he sets the beer on the seat between them, peering curiously at the camera. turning it over in his hands. ]

[venatoris]

[ He slides into the drivers side, but doesn’t crank the car just yet. Hands settle on the steering wheel, unmoving, before he glances over at Cas. ]

You wanna learn how to drive?

[messenger]

[ castiel pauses in his inspection of the camera, raising his eyes to meet dean's. ]

Uh,

[ he answers eloquently. ]

[venatoris]

It’ll be fun. I’ve kinda always wanted to teach you.

[ He’s already getting out of the car, standing and circling around to the passenger side. ]

[messenger]

[ castiel stares up at dean with those big blue doe eyes of his, but just like last time — when dean took him to the brothel — he can't bring himself to say no.

he gets up and out of the passenger's seat, brushing past dean with another pleading look as he does.

castiel moves a bit stiffly around the front of the car, like that stick in his ass is giving him some trouble, and then settles on the still warm leather that dean just vacated. he looks over expectantly. ]

[venatoris]

[ Well at least this time Dean's not trying to get him laid. He's trying to bond. He's let Cas down repeatedly back home; not trusting him, not listening, not helping when he should have. Being unnecessarily cruel when he didn't need to be, kicking him out when Cas was at his lowest and had nowhere else to do.

Dean's trying to be better these days, but it isn't enough. Won't ever be. But he can keep trying to make amends and make up for it. ]

Okay, first things first - you're gonna crank it. Turn the key forward, but don't hold it there. Just do it gentle, and she'll fire right up and purr.

[messenger]

[ hey, they bonded! cas still has no idea what happened, but they had a good time. well, dean was smiling and laughing, anyway. he thinks that's good. he only hopes this ends the same way, because he suspects that if he does something to harm dean's precious "baby", he won't be having a good time at all.

he glances aside and nods, putting his hand to the key in the ignition and turning it the way that dean instructs. easy enough. the motor rumbles to life, and his eyes track back to dean again, asking, what now? looking, as ever, for guidance. ]

[venatoris]

[ It was pretty damn funny. ]

Perfect, just like that. [ The door to the garage is wide open, it's a large enough exit there shouldn't be any issue. ]

Put your foot on the brake, the left pedal, hold it down. The take the gear shift - [ He reaches out to tap it lightly; ] and put it in drive, a few clicks down, it should show there on the dash, a capital D once you're in gear.

[messenger]

[ castiel makes a sound in the back of his throat and pushes his foot down on the brake pedal, grasps the gear shift, and pulls it down until it clicks into place again. the indicator makes itself known on the dashboard in front of him. for a moment, he stares — there are a myriad of numbers and gauges, and he's unfamiliar with every single one, except now for indicator that he's in drive.

strange, how something so simple can be overwhelming. ]

Is that—?

[venatoris]

Yep. Just like that. You're doing great.

[ The fun part is next, and naturally has the most danger. If Cas isn't careful that V8 will smash them through a tree. ]

Next thing you're gonna do is hold the wheel straight, and gentlyease off the gas. And I mean it, Baby's got a V8 under the hood and it's powerful. So go easy on her, okay?

[messenger]

[ he's much more powerful than this car. but even knowing that doesn't make him less nervous. dean's right, he could wreck. and there'll be no laying on of hands. if something happens to dean because of his lack of experience, there's no word for how stupid he'll feel.

so castiel nods and aims his eyes forward, gently depressing the gas pedal, hands desperately clutching at the wheel. they begin to move forward — and cas panics, slamming his foot down on the break. the car lurches, and them along with it. his pupils are blown, skinny chest heaving beneath his rumpled suit&coat. ]
