⏵ build-up to the race ⏴ Aurora has organized a competitive event, unlike missions past: an all-out build-and-race derby! This mission is all about working together (or against each other) to design, construct, and customize your ride! Show some creativity, and gain a few extra points maybe - or show some grit, and get bonus points that way! Don't worry, there's always an edge of rivalry: a few twists and tricks await to keep everyone on their toes! As of November 8th, a temporary garage has been set up close to the hospital, with bays for each team. Luffy, Loki TEAM SIX Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd, Yuri Leclerc, 6, 37 TEAM SEVEN Cloud Strife, Rufus Shinra, Sleeper, Asano Rin TEAM EIGHT Deku Midoriya, Cid Telamon, Jason Todd, Gorgug Thistlespring TEAM NINE Accelerator, Timothy Drake, Trafalgar Law, Vax'ildan TEAM TEN Octavia Blake, Mal Durrish, Wanda Maximoff, Rosie Each bay is labeled with the names of those in each team, but the plaque where the team's name would be remains blank. Instead, a marker resides beside the placard: teams must choose their name, and add it themselves. Within each bay are all the parts needed to put together a vehicle on one's own. Parts and tools are clearly labeled, and a few instruction manuals for numerous different kinds of vehicles are lying about. Each team is welcome to dive right in, but there's also a twist: special parts are available - but you have to earn them! Several Companion Bots have set up shop just outside the garage, ready to hand out everything from turbo boosters to reinforced tires. However, every special part can't be bought but has to be earned. Want a top-notch engine? Maybe a late-night group watch for any shooting stars will earn you one. Want some wicked cool brakes that make handling those curves in the road significantly easier? Maybe you and a teammate will get sent on a fun scavenger hunt for special stones scattered throughout Etraya - or maybe they'll have to commit a prank on another team to get it. Sign-ups for special parts can be found HERE - let us know what your team is looking for (shielding, brakes, tires, etc) and we'll give you a task for their team to complete to earn it! Need some direction? The Companion Bots are happy to lend a hand, even if they aren't able to directly interfere! Decorate not just your vehicles, but also the bay assigned to your team. There's plenty of paint, spare parts, and props! While Aurora and the Companion Bots provide the essential parts, it's up to the teams themselves to put together their vehicles - so have fun building! Complete mini-missions for additional, special parts, which may also assist your team in winning the race itself. Or one can always sabotage other teams in order to raise their chances of winning. The world is your oyster - have fun with it! ⏵ you bet! ⏴ Not everyone is up for hands-on work; those that either choose to put their focus elsewhere, or maybe in addition to participating in the race, can also choose to participate in betting rounds. Set up in Harry's Hideaway Pub, a couple of the Companion Bots have set up a mini-casino, equipped with screens keeping an eye on the outside of the bays and facing the tracks that have yet to be completed. Here, you can place your bets on which team will finish their build first, who will get the best parts, and which car will have the most flair - or perhaps which will fall apart first once they're out on the track. The currency used here? The points one earns for participating in the world of Etraya and previous missions. he understands the basic function, yes. he understands the chemical formulas behind combustion and the physics of acceleration. but how it all comes together, the function of each part, the reason why there are such a vast number of models and iterations, the cost, the status, the attraction to certain colors and features: all of these are superfluous human things.

it seems now he'll have to learn.

the moment the mission is announced, he knows that dean will be elated. even if he doesn't understand how this will help them, even if he doesn't think this is a useful approach to whatever grand collapse awaits, he can't deny the allure of seeing dean happy.

and what harm is it, really? there's nothing else he can do. so with dean's encouragement, he signs up.

that's not to say he isn't useful in the garage. he's more than strong enough to bend twisted parts into place, and smooth stubborn dents from recycled panels without the need for heavy duty equipment. he can lift anything, both parts, equipment, and the vehicle itself. and once a tool or part is pointed out to him, there's no chance he'll forget the next time it's named. he's handy, and it feels good to do such simple and straightforward work with simple and straightforward instructions. he'll leave the design and planning to the other three.

besides being a handy bludgeoning tool, castiel also doubles excellently as an overnight guard. rather than go home to the bunker, he stays in the garage, watching over his team's construction from night to night as though it's yet another charge beneath his wing. any saboteurs will have to deal with him, first — unless he's out dealing in sabotage himself. ]

Ever since its announcement, Jason's been excited to work on this month's mission. Build a vehicle and race it against other customized works? Hell yes. Working and driving motor vehicles is one of his wheelhouses so he's confident about how this mission will turn out, even if he's not familiar with his teammates.

You'll find him busy at and around the car bay area. He's either going over what his team will need for the race, helping with building the vehicle, or trying to assess what the other teams are doing. It's not cheating if it's just looking, right?

[ octavia knows of cars but most of her familiarity with them only extends to the vehicles they found on earth and even that doesn't include driving or building them either. this mission doesn't involve anything that could use her sword or her survival skills so she knows right from the start this is completely outside of her wheelhouse much to her dismay but given the stakes here she knows she will just have to figure it out.

she never learned to drive even though others like her brother picked it up for ease of travel because she felt more at home riding on horseback than she did behind the wheel of any machine but now it looks like she has to learn about it so she can at least be of some help to her teammates in winning this. she heads over to the car bay where her name is listed while idly eyeing the scattered parts and tools laid out as if it is some sort of puzzle until she notices she has company ] Hey. So how familiar are you with any of this? I think we should figure that out first.

[ The team he's on seems cool enough. Vax doesn't know any of them, but they're not causing any problems. They kind of failed at naming their team, but it's just for a car, anyway. Vax has no experience with mechanics of any kind, so he volunteers to try and check off their to-do list for advanced parts.

Which leaves him holding a handful of small stones at a pond. Another is thrown, which makes this his fourteenth attempt at skipping them, except it only goes once and plops into the water. ]

Fuck fuck fuck! This is impossible. Ten times? How do you even do that without using magic?

[ For a man who has absolutely no idea of how engines work, Shanks is exceedingly cheerful. He'll come up to their assigned garage and approach Manny directly. Manny seems like... well, honestly, personality-wise he kinda reminds him of his first mate; long-suffering guy, reasonable, hopefully willing enough to partake in nonsense. ]

(mechanics - it's not like he's wholly unaware of the ins and outs of cars, there is some knowledge in there, but it hardly fits the role he decided to play. clumsy, bookworm, kind and gentle man is here with some coffee and a pile of books to attempt and decipher the mechanics. he is mostly found in the back of the garage, buried in the knowledge. he personally hates the whole thing, but this is not a mission he finds he should act against - besides, he's always been into learning new things, this stuff is pretty fascinating.

[ Harold had to change out of his suit to do this. He's quite disgruntled about it. Harold Finch in a short-sleeve t-shirt and jeans and boots looks like a different man entirely, like he's been unshelled from his armor and forced to wander about partly naked. But calling attention to it and complaining would be even worse, so he gets to team three's bay early in the morning and gets to work.

He hasn't missed how fortunate they are to have this as their first mission, and he's not going to sit it out when it's well within their skill sets. He doesn't know the two women assigned to the team with them, but he'll probably end up rectifying that shortly.

By the time any of his teammates make their way to the car bay, they'll find the manuals all discarded off to the side like trash and Harold standing over a table covered in car parts, frowning at them. He's not doing anything, just standing there, thinking. There's a paper notepad and a plain no. 2 pencil beside him covered in diagrams and notes. ]

[ While Shanks is familiar with some technology, his world's is very different from this one. Long-distance communication is done through snails or letters, he's never seen anything like the engines.

Luckily, one of his assigned team members is a mammoth and said mammoth has agreed to pilot himself, so once that's settled he has plenty of time to look into other garages and see what they're doing. He's both nosy and friendly, so he's just approaching people. ]

[ The pub is the right ambience for Shanks, and learning what people are betting on and why is a way to pass the time, so here he is, getting free drinks and sliding up next to anyone who sits down on their own. ]

Racing Prep: Scoping out the Competition

[Having a mammoth on your team that can count as both driver and vehicle really does take a lot of work out of the equation for their team. Outside of fitting Manny with skates, there wasn't a lot for them to do.

Which is, honestly, for the best. Luffy isn't to be trusted with the rustic technology he's used to, so throwing a whole engine into that equation? It would have been a disaster. At minimum. Machines were cool to look at, sometimes to play around with, he's best left to admiration.

That doesn't mean he'll stay out of the way, or out of the garages though. He has to check out the competition.]

Racing Prep: Artistic Integrity

[When he's not bothering other teams, Luffy is hard at work on his masterpiece. Every good racing team has a mascot, a flag! So it's not a jolly-roger, and Manny is kind of in the realm of being a mascot anyway, but that's not going to keep him from painting his best flag yet.

Which is has now proudly hung up in the garage--please feel free to comment on the fact that his attempt at a mammoth looks more like a stack of misshapen pancakes or a deformed rhino.]

So what do you do for these points anyway? [Luffy's nursing a drink--he's a pirate, he'll be fiiiiiine--and frowning at the betting going on. He'd bet on his own team in a heartbeat, but he's new and has nothing to offer, so he's left watching the action. Not that it really bothers him any, it just has him curious.]
