MISSION 009
![]() ⏵ CAMP ETRAYA ⏴ On May 16th, Aurora and the companion bots direct those not heading off to Solmara to make their way to Camp Etraya. Nestled away from everything else in a large clearing full of wildflowers and redwoods, Camp Etraya is a nostalgic summer camp experience put together just for it's residents! Cabins are assigned, scary stories are told around campfires, gossiping happens among friends on the trails surrounding the cabins - and don't be surprised when something goes awry. After all, this is still Etraya. While the rest of Etraya is still accessible and will not be blocked off, characters are discouraged from venturing far from camp for too long: Aurora will specify that they are on a mission, and that missions do require participation, but she has intentionally left them the freedom to wander. Not sleeping in their assigned cabins, not participating in events, and staying away from Camp Etraya will end with her having to take more extensive security measures, so please be on your best behavior! The last thing she wants to do is start enforcing boundaries, but she will if she has to. Camp is set up much like your generic summer camp! Each cabin is named, housing is assigned to characters as they arrive, there are camp counselors, and rotating daily tasks and chores. There are also multiple activities that characters are expected to participate in, and each activity is worth points that goes toward their camp graduation score. This score will be visible on their earpiece, and follows the A-F grading system. We are not be monitoring this, and are leaving character scores up to players. We do, however, ask that you please report your characters' camp grade HERE for rewards and demerits to be handed out after the mission itself. Cabin assignments can be found here, which also has their roles, and chores assigned to that cabin. Those who are participating in Solmara have received an assigned cabin, too, but their absence toward the beginning will not harm the cabin's ability to compete given how spread out their assignments are. ![]() ⏵ WELCOME TO CAMP ⏴ Camp life is meant to instill a sense of belonging, connection with nature, encouragement towards the creative, all on top of a firm foundation of responsibility. Upon arriving, campers will be escorted towards a table of white t-shirts and countless buckets of dye! Each Etrayan will be invited to make three Tie-Dyed shirts- as well as required to wear one as part of their summer uniform. Camp counselors must wear 80s basketball shorts or cut-off jeans. Campers may wear cargo shorts or a skort. For those with physical limitations to what they can wear, accommodations will be provided. Here, bonding is the camp runners' priority. They will be pushed into various ice-breaker activities, such as trust falls, two truths and a lie, and Never have I Ever. As the sun goes down, there will be weenies roasting over the bonfire, followed by s’mores and a sing-a-long! With the stars well-visible, it’s off to bed with campers. Each day after will start much the same: with the ringing of the bell and raising of the flag (Aurora, while unfamiliar with flag designs but an understanding of the concept, has chosen a rainbow flag for the camp. Rainbows make people happy, right?), followed by a meal at the Great Hall, morning assembly, activities with counselors, chores, free time, and then an evening winding down by the great fire. An hour after sun down, campers will be escorted back to their cabins for curfew. Camp Counselors are expected to keep track of their campers, and ensure they're all within their cabins for bedtime. This is part of their grade, too! Curfew lifts an hour before the first bell. ![]() ⏵ CAMP ACTIVITIES ⏴ As with most summer camps, Camp Etraya offers a wide variety of activities to participate in. While some of these activities may be mandatory, others are optional. We'll be leaving this up to individual player discretion: perhaps Viktor is mandated to report to arts and crafts, whilst it's optional for Silco to show. Silco, on the other hand, may be mandated to report to the archery contest. Characters are encouraged to participate in a minimum of one camp activity per day. Below is a non-exhaustive list of camp activities.
![]() ⏵ NIGHT TIME ⏴ Once campers have been put to bed, the counselors can still stay up. Unwind with hidden beers and the strumming of a guitar. Don’t get too comfortable, though, since without supervision, no one is keeping the campers in bed. After dark, should campers evade their counselors, they can go exploring in the dark. Eerie lights glimmer from the lake. There’s rumors of a headless spectre walking from the archery field to the edge of the forest. Should you behave, you still might hear a scratching at your bunk house window. And on the very last night of camp, there will be a talent show. Show off your hidden talent and bask in the excitement of wowing your fellow campers! Welcome to Camp Etraya! Please enjoy the s'mores and campfire songs. :) Camp will last approximately two weeks, going from May 16th to May 30th. For all questions relating to this mission, please refer to the plotting post. All other questions can be directed to the FAQ. |

the hedgehog pulls her back so that she's properly on her feet, and will allow for her to walk around him if she so chooses to.

[ Wait. Closing her mouth before she says the wrong name. She only takes a few steps around him, mostly because she's trying to get a clearer look at his quills. Just how fuzzy is this one? ... ...Not so much as the other one. ] ...Darkie? [ Hold on, she's supposed to be a counselor. ] Um... isn't it your bedtime? What are you doing out here?
[ Don't interact with him. Don't worry about him. Fio seems to always do the opposite of what he actually wants. Of course she isn't going to keep walking and be on her way. ]

I don't care for the rules of this place.
[ he only does what he wants, and she knows this, shadow is one of the bad kids who will get his work done if it's given to him. aside from that, he's not doing anything that suggests sleeping at an organized bedtime from those given an authoritative role.
what follows is a sigh. ]
Has something happened for you to be out late?
no subject
Some of the campers that stay here like to sneak off, so I'd better do my job and keep an eye out. And I guess... you happened too. Hehe.
[ She smiles tiredly. She really should just go to sleep instead... ]

i think he should hit someone with it (fio does not)
dont worry... rockadow will learn to bask in the blood of his enemies

for scott (laserguy)
In the evening, she joins others by the campfire and after a moment of scanning the crowd, happily finds available seating next to fellow cool friend Scott Summers. Her tie-dyed shirt is oversized, almost like she's wearing a long dress instead. It takes a second for her to reach under her long shirt, for the sunglasses hanging off her pocket. She puts the pair on her face. It's night... does she need sunglasses at this time? No. She doesn't understand that it might be considered weird. But she wants to match with Scott.
The aroma coming from the s'mores smells amazing. She studies everyone else before making her own attempt. ]
...Why is it called s'mores?
no subject
Being part of that mission to Solmara, well, it was a lot and not something he really wants to talk about right now. Luckily, with how normal and distracting the camp has been, it's been a little easier to feel like things are kind of that. Like he's actually here and living an average life instead of being on that other planet that felt like hell in comparison to this.
He almost finds himself nodding off by the campfire anyway though. Maybe because he feels like he can finally relax here, watching as marshmallows slowly get roasted by the fire and it's not like anyone can tell if he falls asleep, right? But then his eyes snap open when he sees a familiar face-- fellow cool friend Fio. Oh, she doesn't have to wear the sunglasses right now but they're matching and he's going to take it.
He smiles at her, a little worn, but friendly nonetheless.]
Uh. Actually that's a good question. [Hmm hmm.] I think it's something like you want more because it's really good.
[He stopped himself from saying 'fucking good' because this is a child, Summers. Even he can stop himself.] This your first time trying one?
no subject
There was another mission according to Aurora's post, but Fio tends to have a difficult time following along when given too many details at once. Far too many words that she doesn't understand. The most she's garnered from it is that there's another city called Solmara and that a small team was recruited to travel there. She's not too sure if Scott was part of it, but she did notice some campers being absent early on in the week. ]
...S'mores, huh. I think I get it. Funny name. Yeah, it's my first time trying a... s'more. Lots of stuff in summer camp is pretty new to me.
[ If it's really good, then she's just about to find out. She reaches over to grab a skewer, then looks over, studying Scott for a moment. It is difficult to see the wariness past his shades. As much as she wants to spend the remainder of the night with a friend, she feels a bit guilty letting him stick around if he's tired. ]
Scott, are you sleepy? If you wanna sleep, you should go back to your cabin.
sorry for the late!
[He's a little sorry for missing the first few days of that... hopefully someone here showed her the ropes of doing the important things in camp. Like. TPing the cabins. Okay, fine, stuff like doing crafts and participating in some of the 'activities' that this camp has set up for everyone. He honestly hopes that she's had a good time so far. What? He's not a monster.
And if not, guess they'll just have to make it up in s'mores.
Her question almost gets the teen to sit up a bit more, trying not to show how exhausted he really is. It really is okay! She doesn't have to worry about him. Scott shakes his head a little, trying to smile through everything and letting his marshmallow warm up in the fire.]
And miss out on eating s'mores with you? Don't worry, I'll be fine. Besides, gotta make sure that you get the full experience eating this.
no worries!!

Wildcard - It might be stargazing into spooky lake time
The annoying things are the birds. But the best spot he's discovered is just beyond the stable. He snuck passed them before, he can do it again. Just a quick snap and he disappears from one point, and to the the other. A few birds chirp sleepily in their confusion, but seeing no one, they just curl back into their feathers. From here, should be a clear path to the clearing.]
no subject
By the time she reaches the stables, it's a long way from the cabins. All the way out here? But why? Part of the reason she follows is not only because of her duty, but... she's worried, of course. She keeps her eyes glued to him. One moment he's there, then suddenly he's gone. For a moment, she's at a loss on where to go. He has to be nearby somewhere, she thinks.
Though he's seemingly nowhere in sight, she decides to keep moving, trying to keep her steps silent as possible as she steps past the stables. ]
no subject
A clearing he had found a few days ago, with patches of white daisies growing beneath the open sky. He walks into the clearing, glancing up toward the sky. It's clear tonight. The stars more brighter out here than back in the city. He doesn't get far in, stopping, his brows furrow.] I know you're there.
no subject
Initially, she doesn't answer for a few seconds, as if contemplating whether or not she should pretend she's not here. But she's incapable of lying. To him or anyone. (And in the case she ever tries, it's nearly always easy enough to see right through her.)
After a moment, Fio steps out from the thicket, revealing herself. Somehow, she doesn't need to come any closer to identify which hedgehog this is. Perhaps it's because this area is nearly reminiscent of where they previously spoke, although this time it's flowers underneath the clear, starry sky instead of the dappled sunlight. Both scenery are equally beautiful. ]
...Hi Dusky. [ It might be hard to see the small smile across her face in the darkness, but it might be audible in her voice. ] You're not gonna go back if I tell you to, huh.

[This isn’t the first time Hank has been tasked with painting rocks here on Etraya. It is, however, the first time he’s been tasked with painting rocks and there is no alcohol involved. Just this camp bullshit that has him on edge because he doesn’t want to be here.
And he, admittedly, snaps one of the little paintbrushes in half because his mind is cruising elsewhere.]
You... what? Get double the points for being a counselor?
[In another life, maybe Hank would have signed up. But unfortunately — or fortunately, since it’s Hank — they’re stuck with Hank as just a regular ol’ camper.]
no subject
[ Sitting nearby, Fio is hard at work painting her own set of rocks. It's relaxing for her, a welcome respite from having to try acting as a leader in a workshop focused on something she knows nothing about. One of the rocks is already complete, but it is a simple paint job: a rock painted entirely white, with black oval eyes. A bit like a cartoon ghost.
Hearing the snap of a brush, her gaze lifts suddenly. This bearded man looks a little like a mountain climber she knows... if he was greying and got a haircut. ]
...Hm? Oh. I don't know about that... I didn't know I was assigned to be a counselor until I got here. [ She was assigned to the role without her knowledge, unfortunately. She doesn't know a thing about summer camp, but she makes an effort to be a kind, helpful counselor. Taking one of her extra paint brushes, she slides it across to Hank. ] You can have this paintbrush, mister.
💝!!! And is that an Argo reference I spy 👀
They really making kids do all this —
[— bullshit, Hank almost says. But goddamn if he isn’t going to watch his mouth.
Or he’ll try, anyway.]
Just a lot of responsibility for you, I imagine. And thanks for — [he accepts the paintbrush, waving it at her before he turns back to his rocks of horror] — this.
[He’ll try not to break this brush. “Try” seems to be Hank’s keyword at this whole camp thing.
It could be worse. If anything, this is downright peaceful compared to the last few ventures Aurora’s assigned them. But for once, Hank wishes he could have gone on the dangerous mission. Wishes he could’ve gone to Solmara. Would he have been much help? Maybe not, but...]
You’re quite the artist. [Hank turns to appraise Fio’s work. He’d much rather think about all this — try — than let himself stew in anger. It’s not as if he can get out of this hellhole, right?] What d’you figure we’re gonna do with all these rocks, huh? Gonna take them back home? Throw ‘em at each other?
it sure is :)
giraffe!
[ Popp looks back and forth between Fio and the drawing. He's been trying to be slightly more ~mature~ and he does not want to tell a child that her drawing is bad, but, like. It's pretty obvious that this weird monster was drawn by either the seven year old or Luffy D. Monkey. The neck is stupidly long and the spotty pattern is creative but weird. ]
Some kind of unicorn?
no subject
Hm? It's a giraffe. [ Just like the name of the cabin that they've been assigned to. A polite smile. ] I've only really seen them in picture books. Is this your first time seeing one?
no subject
[ Look at those horns! Clearly a fearsome beast who uses them for menacing purposes. ]
How big are they? Say, compared to a horse.

However, he has taken note of Fio's decorations on the door to the cabin, even if he does not comment upon it, nor let his eyes linger for long to suggest any appreciation for it. Yet, what betrays any lack of such towards her artistic pursuit is that on one of the days that the little origami flowers have been blown off the door, Barnabas has taken it upon himself to collect them all.
Fio might catch him reapplying them to the door, silent and stoic in his replanting of these flowers, paying her no immediate mind initially.]
no subject
During a moment of respite from counselor duties, she returns to the cabin while hauling a small box of craft supplies from the arts corner, having plans to reinforce some of the flower origami and fold extra additions to decorate the door. Quiet time dedicated to reading and learning about different kinds of crafts has been her favorite part of camp. ]
...Barnie? [ She's surprised to find Barnabas is way ahead of her. Of course she does remember he introduced himself as a King—which she may have found fascinating initially, having to share a cabin with a royalty figure. Titles don't really matter here and she would like to treat him like a friend instead. She also remembers that his first name is "Barnabas"... and she's decided that Barnie is his nickname now, not thinking about whether it sounds rude or not.
Her surprise shifts into a smile. ] Thank you for helping the little flowers.
no subject
He isn't even bothered by none of them using his title to refer to him, suggesting the title serves some other purpose than some cheap attempt at establishing social superiority. Whatever the case may be, Barnabas doesn't seem to care to clarify the inclusion of the title for his introduction, nor mention it further.
However, being called "Barnie" is an odd one. Not that he hasn't been referred to that in such a way before, but typically it is from a man he's known for twenty years. A man who isn't the least bit intimidated by the sharp stare it earns. The kind of stare that is being spared towards Fio, yet the edge of it is softer than that he might otherwise give to the other offender.
He then looks to the flowers reapplied to the door, one still in his hand awaiting its return with the others.]
You...made these, correct?
[His voice is soft and quiet, yet perfectly audible despite it's almost whisper-like quality. Barnabas' gaze turns back to her, waiting for her answer. He's completely ignored her thanks, not out of any rude dismissal of it, but perhaps viewing gratefulness unnecessary for his actions.
It's hard to know with how he holds himself, how neutral his expressions tend to be, and how withdrawn his presence is in general.]
(no subject)
arts & crafts; towards the end of camp time
(God, this is the worst.)
So here she is, sitting at a table in the arts and crafts cabin, half-heartedly painting a rock black. She's working with one surface and one color, and somehow she's still managing to do a lackluster job.
When she finishes with Black Rock #1 and her time isn't up yet (no shit, Shaw; it's been five minutes), she figures she might as well get started on Black Rock #2, and she reaches to take another from the pile - at the exact same time as Fio is also reaching for another rock. She withdraws immediately, wordlessly waving Fio forward. Go on, kid; take your pick. You seem like you're actually having fun with this, so live your dreams.]
no subject
[ Fio gives a friendly smile and takes her new, clean unpainted rock, setting it down in her workspace. She is definitely having fun, occasionally bouncing her legs under the table.
A small pile of rocks sit next to her, some that are very colorful, with little painted flowers, suns, stars, moons. There's one that might look like another camper... or is that some sort of angry animal with black fur with red streaks? Among the completed pieces that Fio has painted, she even has her very own Black Rock! Kind of. This one has a few extremely minor details, like two dashes of white paint that seem to indicate a pair of eyes. That's about it. And she's happy enough about it that it sits in her completed pile.
She doesn't immediately go back to work, because she's curious about the camper sitting across from her that spent five minutes painting a black rock. And she can be a bit of a chatterbox when full of energy... she peers across the table, expecting Shaw to finally pick another rock her own. ]
What kind of rock are you gonna paint next?
no subject
[She pulls the jar of black paint a little closer to her, punctuating the point.]
Maybe in December Aurora can put them all in my stocking.
