MISSION 009
![]() ⏵ CAMP ETRAYA ⏴ On May 16th, Aurora and the companion bots direct those not heading off to Solmara to make their way to Camp Etraya. Nestled away from everything else in a large clearing full of wildflowers and redwoods, Camp Etraya is a nostalgic summer camp experience put together just for it's residents! Cabins are assigned, scary stories are told around campfires, gossiping happens among friends on the trails surrounding the cabins - and don't be surprised when something goes awry. After all, this is still Etraya. While the rest of Etraya is still accessible and will not be blocked off, characters are discouraged from venturing far from camp for too long: Aurora will specify that they are on a mission, and that missions do require participation, but she has intentionally left them the freedom to wander. Not sleeping in their assigned cabins, not participating in events, and staying away from Camp Etraya will end with her having to take more extensive security measures, so please be on your best behavior! The last thing she wants to do is start enforcing boundaries, but she will if she has to. Camp is set up much like your generic summer camp! Each cabin is named, housing is assigned to characters as they arrive, there are camp counselors, and rotating daily tasks and chores. There are also multiple activities that characters are expected to participate in, and each activity is worth points that goes toward their camp graduation score. This score will be visible on their earpiece, and follows the A-F grading system. We are not be monitoring this, and are leaving character scores up to players. We do, however, ask that you please report your characters' camp grade HERE for rewards and demerits to be handed out after the mission itself. Cabin assignments can be found here, which also has their roles, and chores assigned to that cabin. Those who are participating in Solmara have received an assigned cabin, too, but their absence toward the beginning will not harm the cabin's ability to compete given how spread out their assignments are. ![]() ⏵ WELCOME TO CAMP ⏴ Camp life is meant to instill a sense of belonging, connection with nature, encouragement towards the creative, all on top of a firm foundation of responsibility. Upon arriving, campers will be escorted towards a table of white t-shirts and countless buckets of dye! Each Etrayan will be invited to make three Tie-Dyed shirts- as well as required to wear one as part of their summer uniform. Camp counselors must wear 80s basketball shorts or cut-off jeans. Campers may wear cargo shorts or a skort. For those with physical limitations to what they can wear, accommodations will be provided. Here, bonding is the camp runners' priority. They will be pushed into various ice-breaker activities, such as trust falls, two truths and a lie, and Never have I Ever. As the sun goes down, there will be weenies roasting over the bonfire, followed by s’mores and a sing-a-long! With the stars well-visible, it’s off to bed with campers. Each day after will start much the same: with the ringing of the bell and raising of the flag (Aurora, while unfamiliar with flag designs but an understanding of the concept, has chosen a rainbow flag for the camp. Rainbows make people happy, right?), followed by a meal at the Great Hall, morning assembly, activities with counselors, chores, free time, and then an evening winding down by the great fire. An hour after sun down, campers will be escorted back to their cabins for curfew. Camp Counselors are expected to keep track of their campers, and ensure they're all within their cabins for bedtime. This is part of their grade, too! Curfew lifts an hour before the first bell. ![]() ⏵ CAMP ACTIVITIES ⏴ As with most summer camps, Camp Etraya offers a wide variety of activities to participate in. While some of these activities may be mandatory, others are optional. We'll be leaving this up to individual player discretion: perhaps Viktor is mandated to report to arts and crafts, whilst it's optional for Silco to show. Silco, on the other hand, may be mandated to report to the archery contest. Characters are encouraged to participate in a minimum of one camp activity per day. Below is a non-exhaustive list of camp activities.
![]() ⏵ NIGHT TIME ⏴ Once campers have been put to bed, the counselors can still stay up. Unwind with hidden beers and the strumming of a guitar. Don’t get too comfortable, though, since without supervision, no one is keeping the campers in bed. After dark, should campers evade their counselors, they can go exploring in the dark. Eerie lights glimmer from the lake. There’s rumors of a headless spectre walking from the archery field to the edge of the forest. Should you behave, you still might hear a scratching at your bunk house window. And on the very last night of camp, there will be a talent show. Show off your hidden talent and bask in the excitement of wowing your fellow campers! Welcome to Camp Etraya! Please enjoy the s'mores and campfire songs. :) Camp will last approximately two weeks, going from May 16th to May 30th. For all questions relating to this mission, please refer to the plotting post. All other questions can be directed to the FAQ. |
Silver the Hedgehog | Sonic the Hedgehog (IDW/Games) | Vipers Cabin
Arrival
Silver eyed the white t-shirts and the buckets of dye curiously. Thankfully there were shirts that were small enough to fit him. Though the thought of wearing clothing like this at all was pretty strange. He pulled one on to make sure it fit, shrugging and squirming a little due to his back quills smushing oddly.
“Yeah this is gonna be weird…” The hedgehog muttered, tugging the shirt back off and trying not to get it caught on his quills. He didn’t honestly care that he had to wear a shirt. There were way worse things in his opinion. However he was going to draw the line at wearing pants. He was just fine without.
Silver found himself enjoying himself as he followed instructions on how to make tie dye shirts. The whole ‘Camp Etraya’ thing was actually pretty cool. Though when he first heard camp, he thought they were all going to get sent off into the wilderness to rough it and try not to get eaten by wildlife. This situation was supposed to be camping?
“Have you done anything like this before?” He waggled a fist full of shirt in his hand at the nearest Etrayan. He hadn’t finished bunching it with elastics yet. “Not just this tie dye thing. But…camp?” This was so not what he had been expecting!
Vipers Cabin
Apparently, everyone sent to Camp was assigned a cabin. Silver found out that his assignment was the Vipers cabin, which was located closest to the large fire pit. He also didn’t recognize any of the names of the ones that were also assigned to Vipers. Not even the person Loki, who was a Counselor. Silver didn’t even know what that was. Was it like a group leader?
The hedgehog made his way through the compound towards the cabin, poking his head in when he found it. Seeing that no one had claimed the bed closest to the door, he plopped down onto it so that he’d be closest to an exit if he needed it. He didn’t really have any belongings to speak of, other than the three shirts he had made (which were drying with all the others).
Blowing out a sigh, he took a few moments to process all that he’d experienced so far today. It wasn’t bad, just different.
Now what?
CAMP ACTIVITIES/DUTIES
Lifeguard on Duty!
Silver settled in quite happily into Camp life. He didn’t shirk any cabin duties, nor did he refuse to do any of the required activities. It was nothing to do with being graded or that it was a mission. But the fact that this whole entire experience was really fun! One of his favorite cabin duties (next to helping people make masks and costumes) was doing lifeguard duty.
It was actually a really easy job. Silver could be seen perched on a high chair at the shoreline, but the hedgehog also tended to levitate himself with psychokinesis and float over the water to keep an eye on things. Hey, being a lifeguard was a serious duty! If anyone had any trouble, it would be a simple matter to lift them out of the water with his abilities. For now he’d hover around and watch. Waving and calling out greetings to people.
Perhaps the best was when someone came to relieve him. Then Silver would leave clothing on the beach and then proceed to fly out over the water and cannonball in with a joyful woop.
Chocobo Racing and Care!
She had somehow followed him here to Camp. Silver had no idea how the green chocobo had found him. But in the end, he actually didn’t mind. In fact, the chocobo related activities would enable him to learn more about her and how to look after her. Though (so far) she had spent most of her time in the wild, she still liked to spend a lot of time with Silver.
He still needed to think of a name for her.
Silver was currently waiting for the session to start at the stables with other Etrayan Campers. Rather than standing with his chocobo companion like other folks, the Green insisted on smushing the small hedgehog with affection instead. In the end, the green motherly chocobo was happily kweh’ing while sitting on the ground on top of Silver like he was a long lost chick. The hedgehog could barely be seen from under the mass of green feathers. An eye, and a splay of quills perhaps. Splayed out hands.
“Hey!! Mmffgerroff!”
Exasperation was present, but affection too if he was honest with himself. He just didn’t want to use his psychokinesis to move her unless it was a last resort; not wanting to freak the creature out.
Arts and Crafts!
Silver found himself really liking arts and crafts. Before this Camp thing, he’d never really sat down and explored something like this, nor did he ever try to do things like drawing or painting. The closest thing he’d ever gotten to a ‘relaxing activity’ was working on the Victory Garden back in his world, by Restoration HQ.
There was one day that he learned how to make a box with a lid out of popsicle sticks and glue. He even got to paint it in all kinds of wild colors. He found himself storing odds and ends in it like a pretty stone he found on the beach, or an interestingly shaped pinecone. Another day, they painted smooth stones found at the lake. Silver made two. A bigger one he could use as a doorstop or table decoration and a small smooth stone the size of his palm. One he could use as a worry stone to rub in his fingers.
In today's session, Silver was eyeing various cords and an assortment of colorful beads in containers. The goal? To make something called friendship bracelets.
“Uh….has anyone made anything like this before? I could use some tips!”
NIGHTTIME
Bonfire Fun
Silver frowned as he carefully stuck a couple of marshmallows onto a pointy stick. This wasn’t his first time hanging out by a campfire, but this was his first time doing it in this recreational Camp context. With other people eating marshmallows and telling ghost stories or even singing songs. He had to keep reminding himself that this wasn’t a do or die survival situation. This was supposed to be fun!
Satisfied that the marshmallows were not going to fall off, Silver stuck them out over the crackling flames so that they could start toasting. He actually liked it when they burned a little. Nice and crispy on the outside, and gooey on the inside. He always had to laugh when someone tried sharing a spooky story. He doubted anyone could tell him one that could get a scare out of him.
“So what are these s’more things I keep hearing about?” He asked those around him. “They are supposed to be good? I want to try it!”
Night Disturbance
For the most part, Silver was a quiet sleeper and an unobtrusive cabin mate. There were some nights though that he found himself waking up abruptly as if he was in danger. Tense, breathing hard, heart racing. Mind fading with disturbing dreams. Other nights he simply couldn’t sleep.
After being used to surviving in high tension situations on a daily basis, these kinds of disturbances tended to happen more than he’d like to admit during calmer times of peace. Sometimes Silver could only sleep a few hours a night if he was lucky. He was so used to being on high alert and ready to move that the idea of being safe in one place to rest peacefully for an entire night was a totally foreign idea to his keyed up nervous system.
Tonight was one of those restless sleep disturbed nights.
As he normally did so as to not disturb his cabin mates, Silver got out of bed and slipped on his boots and gloves before grabbing a blanket and slipping quietly out the door. Sometimes he floated up to perch on the roof, while others he would sit on the shoreline of the lake or on the front step of the cabin. Tonight, it looked like no one was around the now smothered and extinguished campfire, so Silver wrapped his blanket around his shoulders to keep off the chill and headed that way to sit on a log and rest his head in his hands.
WILDCARD
Got an idea to play out with Silver that’s not in the prompts? Feel free to PM me for a custom starter or hit me up with your own! I always write in prose by default as it is my preference, but if I need to match I will.
Silver’s plotting post for this mission is here!
Chocobo ... racing?
He'd brought his on purpose though, and it has learned to NOT try to incubate him like an egg, unlike Silver's. He watches for a long moment as the hedgehog is bullied by his own bird before stepping over carefully to nudge the hen off her prize before those quills do damage. Quills were sharp, weren't they? "You probably shouldn't let your bird treat you like a chick."
no subject
"I have no idea why she keeps wanting to do that." Silver shrugged a little. "I was helping with stopping a hostile red Chocobo when she came out of nowhere. She tries to do that whenever she gets the chance. Maybe she lost a chick and I'm a replacement." He huffed out a sigh, but a small smile appeared on his face when the Green leaned over to 'preen' at his fanned up quills. "Hey that tickles!" He laughed.
"I wouldn't even say she's 'mine'. I've never had a pet before in my life!"
no subject
IN truth he's seen maybe four green ones total up close and personal, which was hardly a dent in the population, but they were all protective and friendly.
So far her behavior is just right. Silver is, apparently, the one she's decided to get protective and friendly over. "Well, even if she's not yours, you're certainly hers. The camp's a good place to learn how to take care of her best, while she tries to take care of you. Supposedly they can be taught to do all kinds of things."
no subject
"Yeah, I was excited to find out there was sessions to learn more about these uh...Chocobos!" He recalled the name of the birds. "Really? You can teach'em stuff?" Well, that was pretty cool.
"I'm Silver by the way. What's your name?" The hedgehog introduced himself cheerfully. "You seem to be familiar with these birds. Do you have them on your world too?"
Wildcard
Archery is somewhere inbetween. Or maybe camp just makes it seem lamer than it should. He's learning one does not just simply pull back the string and the arrow will fly. The arrow needs to sit a certain way, his hands need to be position in a way to not hurt himself, and also keep the bow steady. So his first few attempts are making sure the arrow even stays put. Once he gets to that point where the arrow doesn't just drop, he can finally try to take aim at the target ahead.
Bowstring is pulled back, bending it possibly too much that it could actually break. This thing is filmsy with his strength. So he has to turn it down a notch. The arrow wobbles, threatening to drop again and as Shadow tries to stop it, there's a fwip! sound as his fingers leave the bowstring, forgetting he had pulled it back. It smacks him and also set loose the arrow. It flies forward and higher than intended, going over the target entirely and hopefully not towards any unsuspecting individual.
no subject
He didn't mind wearing the tie dye shirts he had made. Especially after cutting a couple of holes in the back of them to allow the bunches of smaller back quills to poke through. It made it way more comfortable to wear that way. The fluffy ruff of fur around his neck made it look like he was wearing a scarf with the shirt on, but he found he didn't care all too much. Nobody could make him wear a pair of pants though. Screw that!
Silver was flying past the archery field and was heading towards the Chocobo stables to check up on the green that had befriended him and followed him to camp. It was only the fact that he had developed super quick reflexes from growing up in a dangerous environment that he saw the flicker of movement and quickly raised a hand to stop the projectile in mid-air centimeters away from skewering him. The movement was so reflexive, that Silver merely blinked quickly a couple of times and then stared as he realized an arrow was hovering inches away from his face; ensnared in his psychokinetic field.
He wasn't flying that close to the archery field was he? This arrow had gone further than the targets. Plucking the arrow out of the air, he circled back around and spotted one of the Shadows holding a bow. He squinted as he got closer, noting the subtle differences. Ah, this wasn't the Shadow from his world. The limiter rings were shaped different and he had extra bunches of quills.
"This yours?" Silver called as he hovered above, impressed rather than offended. He'd been through a heck of a lot worse to really get ruffled. Plus he knew how much strength one needed to pull one of those bows. He had discovered that himself when he had tried archery. "You must have one heck of an arm! You really launched that sucker!"
no subject
But that was then, and things are less strenuous at this camp. For now. So he allows his curiousity get the better of him.
"How are you doing that?!" They're just flying, without any additional equipment that he can see and just stopped that arrow without touching it. That tye-die shirt can be an eye sore though.
no subject
"What, flying?" He wondered. "I'm lifting myself with psychokinesis." He tapped a temple. "Basically using my mind to lift myself up and go! It's also how I caught the arrow." He waggled it in a hand before holding it out to Shadow fletching first with the arrowhead pointed away from the darker hedgehog. It was a silent gesture of 'no hard feelings, we're cool'. He was actually kind of glad to see this Shadow had made it to Etraya after the craziness that was Aphaia. He already knew that the Shadow from his world had made it here as well. Though he hadn't seen him much since arriving here. Maybe he'd get a chance to know this one too.
no subject
He looks at the arrow being offered to him, slowly taking it back. "You've always been able to use psychokinesis?"
no subject
"So you liking it here on Etraya?" It sure beat the other place they had found themselves in. "This camp thing is pretty cool!" He chuckled. "Definitely not what I thought when I heard the word 'camp'."
no subject
"...Like is not the word I'd use to describe how I feel about this place." He doesn't absolutely hate it here, but he isn't thrill being stuck here either. There is no strong attachment to the idea he has to save his universe, so Aurora is just wasting his and her time bringing him here. He thinks.
"What is camp to you?" The whole concept is an entirely new experience to him. All he knows is what he's watched on shows and movies with Maria about camping.
no subject
Shadow's question got him to smirk a little. "Roughing it. Like really roughing it. Having to survive in the wilderness and trying not to get your butt kicked by local wildlife, poisonous flora or natural disasters. Uh...having to scavenge for food and water so you don't starve or die of thirst. Making sure you find or make a shelter for some protection from the elements. Make a fire so you don't freeze, stuff like that." His tones were flippant and matter of fact. Clearly he spoke from experience. "This camp isn't survival. This is luxury." He spread his hands, encompassing the entire area.
"I'm actually really enjoying it! This mission if you can call it that, is really fun."
no subject
"...Are things, not good for you back home?" Having his own fair share of struggles and only just starting to experience what it's like outside of his base, he can recognize when someone might have had a difficult time.
s'mores!
Amongst the humans, there's a figure (who hasn't been seen around the campfire until now, a week in) who might stand out: a green half-orc, dressed in the same camp wear as everyone else, but rather...tall, at near 6'7". Granted, some of that height has been squashed by him compacting himself to roast a marshmallow on a stick too, a lot more of the (soon-to-be) gooey treats in his lap.
But white pupils against black scleras are now on Silver. But also looking around, since- "I just got here. I didn't see the crackers."
There's an urgency in his voice. Silver, you mentioned s'mores. Do you know the way?? Even though you're asking about them...
Re: s'mores!
Glancing at his marshmallows and noting they were burnt enough to his liking, he pulled his stick out of the fire to blow on them gently. Then he looked up at the newcomer with a grin. "Crackers? I don't even know how to make s'mores. I only know about'em by name. I was hoping someone here could show me how to make them!" He admitted. "I kept hearing people mention them and figured if they are that popular I'd wanna try them."
no subject
"I can ask someone who knows where the chocolate and crackers are. We'll make 'em."
Surely, someone's gotta know where they are. He rises, after popping the line of marshmallows on his stick directly in his mouth so that he can better cup the rest of his marshmallows in his shirt up without letting them spill out.
"There's no a-- counsellor head or something for this?" He decides to ask, before wandering; admitting, "I've been gone for a week."
no subject
"You were gone a week? Oh! Were you on that other mission thing that I heard about?" He asked curiously. "Oh, and the food and supplies are nearby." He got up when the really tall fellow did and followed. "Coolers over there! There might be what you're looking for in those boxes." He pointed at supplies that were piled up a safe distance from the fire.
Spotting that the fellow was holding a bunch of marshmallows in his shirt, Silver held out a hand. "Want me to hold those for you? I can make'em float. Then they won't fall on the ground." It would also allow the other's hands to be freed.
no subject
"...You're not going to eat my marshmallows?" A pause. "You have to promise."
Somebody really likes their marshmallows, okay.
no subject
"See? I'm a psychokinetic. I can move stuff with my mind! I can lift several tons at once so carrying your marshmallows will be easy peasy."
no subject
"Okay. That's a cool ability--I'm not psycho-anything, and I can't move anything with my mind. Yet." Yet, he says... "But it would be cool. Unless it just feels like I'm carrying stuff with my head instead of my arms."
That wouldn't be so cool. Carrying things is such a drag because they can get heavy!
no subject
"Yeah the ability definitely comes in handy." Silver chuckled with a grin as he led the way towards the food supplies. He held his stick in a hand with his marshmallows still on it. He'd use those to make the s'mores. "I've been doing it for a very long time. So lifting stuff like this takes very little focus or effort. Now if I need to lift really big heavy stuff or a lot of stuff at once, it takes more concentration. Especially if I'm moving live targets."
He looked over the supplies, opening one of the coolers to look inside. The marshmallows still floated along beside their owner. "What's your name? I'm Silver!" The hedgehog looked over his shoulder up at his companion.
no subject
Gorgug himself opens one beside his, and--more drinks, of a different variety. Fizzy.
He takes one out as Silver introduces himself, a side glance given. "Gorgug. It's, um, nice to meet people who aren't just human. We already have a lot of humans."
It's not said negatively, no derision there for humans, but--you know, there are a lot of humans around. And neither of these coolers have chocolate, but Gorgug holds up the can he took out, while looking at Shadow's. "You want a drink? You wanna have a look?"
There's more coolers, and Gorgug doesn't doubt they might find chocolate in one of them to keep them from melting. But, also: drinks!
