Ramsey Farm open mingle
WHO: Etrayans!
WHEN: Post-mission.
WHERE: Ramsey Farm.
WHAT: An open mingle log for people to hang out and do stuff at Ramsey Farm. See Accelerator's network post for details.
NOTES\WARNINGS: None, please put any CWs in subjects.

An idyllic, well loved little farm house that looks like it has been transported right from the fields of Kansas. The garden in the front has flowers and the back garden is chock full of vegetables. There is a chicken coop and a bale of hay is strung up from a tree like a tire swing for a little goat's enrichment. There is also a shed in the back, designed to look like a small version of the farm house, with a summer outdoor couch set up shoved against the back wall, piled with all weather cushions, and various lawn and small gardening equipment hung on the front wall. Towards the edge of the grounds, in a patch of large wildflowers, sits a large stone acting as a grave marker. Instead of names, it has been engraved with "#1 - #10 031."
The farm is being used as a safe space for children by Accelerator. Kids under 15 are allowed to use it as they wish. Kids over 15 are allowed to use the space if they help with upkeep. Adults who have been vetted by a kid are allowed on the ground to do work. A security system has been added to the farm house that sends messages to Accelerator's ear piece depending on the threat level.
The goat's name is Mena.

Hey. [His eyes immediately go to the coffee, though he doesn't say anything, turning away.] Furnace is this way.
no subject
People usually go with "hi, how are you? Thanks for coming! Is that for me?"
no subject
no subject
Magic words?
no subject
Give me the fucking coffee, shithead.
no subject
[Raises it even higher.]
I know you know manners. Somewhere. Deep down.
no subject
Then how about, 'give me the fucking coffee before I use my esper ability and take it.'
no subject
[He knows he doesn't have touch permission so this is what you get instead of noogies, Ace.]
no subject
But he knows he can't do that, so he's staring hard for several seconds before saying through gritted teeth.]
.............................. Please.
no subject
You're welcome.
[He won't rub it in further than that, and it does seem to have helped make his day a little.]
All right, where's that furnace?
no subject
This way.
[He takes the stairs carefully since his hands are occupied with the coffee and crutch. The furnace is nothing fancy, an old gas thing that could probably use a look over since it's been sitting here for over a year.]
no subject
Okay, gas. You can tell what chemical compositions are in the air, right? First thing's making sure there's no leaks anywhere along the pipes before I blow us up.
[He takes a knee in front of the furnace, opening up the panel and shining a flashlight inside.]
Have you turned it on at all before?
no subject
But hey! Analyzing chemicals in the air? That he can do.]
Yeah, sure. That's not a problem.
[He's going to lean over behind Jayce, not even bothering trying to hide his curiosity as he watches him, sipping away at his coffee.]
Me? No. The lady who was living here probably did, but she's been gone a long time.
no subject
[He doesn't mind how closely Accelerator's looking over his shoulder, and in fact points to parts within the furnace as he's talking.]
This is the pilot, which feeds into the shut off, via the control valve. On the other end is the heat exchanger. Some of this is a little beyond me, different tech levels. Like that right there- connected to the pilot and gas flow? Seems to be... for monitoring the pilot light? Huh.
[As he's checking the connections between things, he looks back over to Accelerator.]
See any leaks?
no subject
[Adjusting his grip on his coffee, he hits the switch on his choker to change over to esper mode and proceeds to start observing and categorizing the molecules floating around them. At the same time he listens to Jayce's explanation of the interior of the furnace. Even if he doesn't have a complete idea of everything going on there, it's more than what Accelerator knows, so he's devouring every bit of new information that he can get.]
In case it goes out?
[It's interesting! He's interested!]
No. I'm not picking up on anything in the air that's dangerous to a person's health. I'm guessing the shit I am getting is normal for a moldy basement.
[He wouldn't know, he didn't grow up with unfinished basements.]
no subject
[Jayce next circles around to the side with the vents that would go into the rest of the house. He continues checking up on parts as Accelerator finishes his analysis.]
Good to know we're clear on that, at least.
So how does that look? Do you see the molecules in the air itself? Could you tell the difference between regular mold and black mold, based on their chemical compositions?
no subject
I don't 'see' anything, it's more like a sixth sense where the vector data gets dumped into my brain. [Since this is Jayce, he doesn't see the point in giving a layman's explanation.] If all I'm doing is trying to identify something like black mold, then it's easy. For example, I already know the toxic shit in it are trichothecenes, so I know I need look for Satratoxin-H, whose chemical formula is C29H36O9. Knowing its chemical formula gives me a few options using different theories in quantum chemistry and dynamics in Hilbert space.
The easiest way is usually to just use molecular orbital theory and valence bond theory, which lets me identify it via its chemical bonds and electron orbitals. Orbitals are vector functions so it's dead simple for me to compare those vector functions with what I would expect from Satratoxin-H's molecular structure. If I didn't know the geometry of Satratoxin-H, I could use the Valence shell electron pair repulsion theory and calculate an approximation out by how the electrons would repel one another.
I can write all the math out later, if you're that curious.

[Vents seem fine, filter needs replacing, but they can do that later. Blower motor is also pretty dusty, but otherwise seems to be in good enough condition. Now for a test.]
I'm going to turn it on. Look for, uh. Fire molecules.
[He leaves the panels off while he does this so he can make sure everything's still working in one piece while operating, and Jayce flicks a switch on the side of the furnace. He makes a loud buzzing noise like something's gone wrong, but then as the motor starts to function, and as the pilot light flickers to life, it all seems to be okay.]
no subject
[He's saying that wryly before answering Jayce's question.]
Things that are outside of my scope of understanding aren't a big deal. If I didn't learn about it specifically in school I can still apply scientific laws and theories to figure it out, like valence bond theory. And if it's something that doesn't follow those laws at all then I can come up with an entirely new framework. I just need to observe the phenomena. Then, based off of those observations, I can create new equations that explain it and add those equations into my Personal Reality. I've done it before a few times back home and here in Etraya.
[He takes another sip of coffee, noting the weird furnace noises and eyeing Jayce to see if that's unusual. At the same time, he's analyzing more vector data coming in, specifically looking for growing rates of heat transfer.]
That's why my ability is named after particle accelerators and not acceleration.
it makes* not he makes, lmao
[Jayce says with a quiet laugh and shake of his head. So far everything seems to be working. He can't peak into the combustion chamber or heat exchanger while it's running for obvious reasons, but Accelerator probably would be pointing out by now if anything seemed off.]
Ah, right. Imagine how weird it would be if you were named Acceleration. I don’t think I’d know how to cope with it.
[More teasing, as Jayce wipes his forehead with the back of his wrist.]
Seems like it’s all set. Ideally we’ll get you a new filter since that old one is disgusting. That’s an easy thing to do, you won’t need my help for it.
I didn't even notice lol
[That's all Jayce gets out of him, as Accelerator (just barely) manages to keep a straight face amidst all the teasing.
... Okay, well. He's scowling deeply, but he isn't threatening bodily injury or death. He's only thinking it (along with kicking Jayce in the shin), and keeping his thoughts to himself is basically the same thing for him. It's pretty good progress for him, even if he can't keep his tone from being curt and demanding.]
Where the fuck do I get those? One of the convenience stores?
no subject
[He was expecting the kick and pleasantly surprised he didn't get one! Wow, Accelerator must actually be pretty happy with him right now.
Jayce starts putting the remaining paneling back on, and gives the furnace a pat. It's already pretty hot, but he's got callouses on callouses on his hands.]
You don't even need to remove the panels for this one. Just that slot right there at the bottom, pull it out and slide the new one in.
no subject
And hey, he learned something! Ignore him gripping his coffee cup a little too tightly.]
Hmm. [He gives a firm nod, memorizing the instructions for replacing the filter.] I have a lot of points, so that's not a problem.
no subject
[Jayce begins to pack up his tools, and flips the switch back to off so the furnace begins to shut down.]
You're all set.
[He seems like he's about to get ready to leave, but then he halts his movement. Looks hard at those stairs again.]
no subject
[There's a 'thank you' on the tip of his tongue, and he chews on his lip, trying to decide whether he wants to open himself up to more teasing.
Thankfully, he notices Jayce staring at the stairs and switches gears, jumping on that instead.]
