![]() ⏵ arrival ⏴ Maybe your arrival goes as anticipated. Characters awaken in the pristine, new hospital, greeted by Aurora and potentially getting a rundown of what's happening depending on their approach to being dropped somewhere new. The door to their room opens, and new arrivals are left free to explore their new environment. Or perhaps you started in space. Perhaps you were stuck on a space station, trying to escape a black hole for who knows how long. Time isn't consistent there, not like it's meant to be. And then you're here. Maybe you stepped foot into an odd hallway, which broke off into an escape pod which promptly disappeared entirely and ended up docking on the Southeast part of the city. Perhaps you had been walking through the hallways when suddenly you felt a pull. A tugging sensation in your gut, moments before the floor dropped away and the air was stolen from your lungs. It almost, almost feels like dying - like drowning but without the water. Stars flash before your eyes, and a warm sensation begins spreading from that tug. Right when it feels like it's beginning to get too hot, you're suddenly too cold. And standing in front of Corrine's Cafe, drenched in fluid that's a little too gooey (don't put it in your mouth, Connor) to be considered water. Maybe don't think about that too hard. A few companion bots swarm the area before long, bringing towels and apologies for newcomers. This isn't how you're meant to arrive, but at least they got you off that ship! They'll hand over an earpiece, but rather than earpieces that are not yet programmed with names, the companion bots have taken it upon themselves to give names out to the newcomers. Some may be closer to an average name, like "Jimmy Smith", or "Arthur Pendragon" (that's normal, right?), or they may be something a little more nonsensical, like "CHEESE IS DELICIOUS". If they make their way to the hospital, Aurora will give something closer to her normal spiel. Those who don't may want to ask some of their newfound friends because there's no explanation given by the bots working the cafe or those who have come to help. Maybe the others who have been here longer will have a better explanation. ![]() ⏵ friendship bracelets ⏴ On July 1st, Aurora sends out a message to everyone through their ear pieces: Hello, Citizens of Etraya. As stated in Aurora's announcement, the Diner has been set up with numerous "friendship" themed party banners. There are cookies and cakes out on the tables, although they may not be to everyone's tastes: some of the flavors are a little outrageous, while others are more generic. Just don't expect that cookie that looks like it has pickles in it instead of chocolate chips to be anything but a pickle cookie. Because it is one. ![]() ⏵ nova city ⏴ The buildings themselves, however, are empty. There is no furniture, no signs of life, no dust, even. These facilities were not put here to use the insides of the buildings, but for the sake of having buildings. But like with all new additions to Etraya, new buildings also mean an array of new creatures. Birds of all shapes and sizes flock to the empty city, enjoying standing on top of street lamps, stray cats wander through alleyways, rodents of all shapes have begun appearing and making themselves comfortable. But those aren't the issue. It's the massive snakes that take up almost entire alleyways as they make their way between buildings, attempting to devour any creature small enough to fit into their mouths that happen to come across them. The green dragon that has built a nest on one of the taller buildings, and has a habit of swatting at anyone who comes near her - or worse yet, when she's particularly in a foul mood, breathes fire on them. Aurora has asked for those capable, to try and handle at least the snakes. They're fine while they're in the city, but there is no guarantee they will stay there. The dragon at least seems content staying right where she is. To report a completed bracelet, please reply to the bracelet turn-in comment. Given the fifth mission is scheduled in September, we will continue to accept submissions for this through the beginning of August, at which point we will randomly select two characters. [He'll shift the beads into one hand, so he can offer the other to shake.]
It's nice to meet you. If I can ask - is that magic? The floating?
no subject
[For a split second, her smile may weaken revealing a deep sadness in her gaze only because she was reminded of her friend who died....hours ago, although it felt a little longer.]
What kind of doctor are you? Do you specialize in genetics? Or maybe a physicist?
[As for her ability to float, Nuvia will smile softly before shaking her head.]
It's...a normal ability I've always had. I've always known to float for as long as I can remember. It's partly due to my body being a higher percentage of water compared to yours. I'm a hybrid human.
no subject
[Otto's pleasantly surprised! People always assume he's a medical doctor - everyone does, with anyone who has a doctorate.
Anyway, he doesn't see how a higher percentage of water would help her float through air in the least...but there was magic in that other dimension. Better not to try and drill down into everyone's differing laws of physics; he'll drive himself even more batty.]
Oh, I see. We don't have anything like that in my world.
no subject
You remind me a little of a friend of mine. Do you have your own laboratory or do you work for the government?
[If it was the latter, then she hopes they treat him better than they did Dr. Voss.
A weak smile will appear at learning he doesn't have anything like her in his world. She'll nod her head.]
I see. It doesn't really surprise me. If you ignore my clones and the Nevu, then...I'm the only one of my kind back home too. No one knows how to deal with me...
no subject
[Very corporate, but...well, it doesn't matter now.
It's strange to hear that he reminds anyone of anyone else, considering the giant hunks of metal now attached to him. Maybe there's more to him than just that, but they do loom large in Otto's mental picture of himself. But the rest of it...that's awful.]
Oh. I'm sorry, that must be difficult.
no subject
[Where has she heard that word before? It was in the tip of her tongue too. She'll think about it for a moment only for her to concentrate on the government aspect instead.]
I don't know the type of government you have, but you would have lost your freedom if you were working under them. It's better to have your own lab so you can concentrate on your passions.
[That is how she saw it, at least. Dr. Voss lost his freedom, peace of mind, and everyone he cared about in the process of creating the perfect soldiers for the war. A detail that will touch Nuvia a bit. She wished Dr. Voss was here so he could meet Dr. Octavius. They would have been good friends, she thinks.
Realizing he was feeling empathy for her, Nuvia will smile softly before shaking her head.]
It can't be helped. My world has been stuck in a war against the Nevu for hundreds of years now. I don't blame them for not trusting me. [She'll lift her hands to show her cloud dress and gloves on her hands.] The Nevu consider me an abomination. [A pause. Trying to find the right words to ask.] Don't I look weird to you?
no subject
[If for rather different reasons than what she's thinking about. Though that's not far off Otto's radar either - if he went back like this and survives, who knows what's going to happen to him? They definitely won't send him to regular prison.
But it is, at least, not an immediate concern.]
A bit, yes, but you're not the first unusual individual I've encountered. It's only natural, under the circumstances.
[Also just because he knows Spider-Man, evidently.]
sorry for late reply, i had to work overtime this week
[She couldn't help feeling curious about his response. Who would he consider unusual? What was his world like? Nuvia had many similar questions but decided to hold back to not overwhelm him.]
no subject
[He was far from the first, but Otto's not quite sure how to discuss Spider-Man with one of them being around.]
no subject
[Her eyes will open wide in amazement.]
Was he still considered a human or was he an alien with sand as its natural biology?
no subject
[Otto had been focused on Norman's cure, and anyway Flint hadn't been able to explain his situation as fully as someone like their world's Peter probably could have. It's not something they ended up discussing, though.]
The last I saw, he looked entirely normal. I'm glad for him - he seemed like a good man, though we didn't speak much.
no subject
[It was a real relief to learn the other man was a good one. She wouldn't want even for someone not good to be left in such a sorry fate. To be rejected from others was a daunting experience. Something she wouldn't want someone else to ever go through.]
You're a good person too, Dr. Octavius. [She'll add before turning to the claws.] You all are.
[With that said, she'll show them the beads she has in her current possession: green, indigo, black, and the rest were pink. It was clear she was collecting in that color.]
Would it be okay to trade beads to become friends? All of us.
[Yes, including the claws.]
no subject
But - that's not his place. He shouldn't snap at some teenager he's just met for - what? Being nice? He takes a breath to calm himself, the claws on the actuators clicking and spinning.]
I'd like that. Though I wouldn't say they understand the concept. [She ought to know at least that much.] You're looking for pink? I have a few of those. We'll take the green in return.
[He doesn't gesture, just sort of glances at the arms in question, which start to pick out their pink beads and make the transaction!]
no subject
I still have green.
[There will be a hint of relieve in her tone. She was elated at the opportunity in making a new friend today. Gently getting the green bead out of her bracelet, she'll offer it to whoever was going to grab it while she offers an open hand to receive the pink bead.]
Thank you, Dr. Octavius. I'm pleased to have met you today. What are you and the others going to do once your done collecting beads?
no subject
[He's just been tearing holes in the back of his shirts, but that's really not...a viable long-term solution...]
no subject
[She'll point to the earpiece she was given by the bots to interact with others in the network.]
no subject
[Otto did get one of those things and set it up! He hasn't really used it to speak to anyone yet, though. He predates the takeoff of Facebook; checking online networks every day isn't a habit.]
no subject
Bye, bye, for now. It was great meeting you!
no subject
[Otto smiles and nods as she leaves. Nice kid!]
