⏵ arrival ⏴ Maybe your arrival goes as anticipated. Characters awaken in the pristine, new hospital, greeted by Aurora and potentially getting a rundown of what's happening depending on their approach to being dropped somewhere new. The door to their room opens, and new arrivals are left free to explore their new environment. Or perhaps you started in space. Perhaps you were stuck on a space station, trying to escape a black hole for who knows how long. Time isn't consistent there, not like it's meant to be. And then you're here. Maybe you stepped foot into an odd hallway, which broke off into an escape pod which promptly disappeared entirely and ended up docking on the Southeast part of the city. Perhaps you had been walking through the hallways when suddenly you felt a pull. A tugging sensation in your gut, moments before the floor dropped away and the air was stolen from your lungs. It almost, almost feels like dying - like drowning but without the water. Stars flash before your eyes, and a warm sensation begins spreading from that tug. Right when it feels like it's beginning to get too hot, you're suddenly too cold. And standing in front of Corrine's Cafe, drenched in fluid that's a little too gooey (don't put it in your mouth, Connor) to be considered water. Maybe don't think about that too hard. A few companion bots swarm the area before long, bringing towels and apologies for newcomers. This isn't how you're meant to arrive, but at least they got you off that ship! They'll hand over an earpiece, but rather than earpieces that are not yet programmed with names, the companion bots have taken it upon themselves to give names out to the newcomers. Some may be closer to an average name, like "Jimmy Smith", or "Arthur Pendragon" (that's normal, right?), or they may be something a little more nonsensical, like "CHEESE IS DELICIOUS". If they make their way to the hospital, Aurora will give something closer to her normal spiel. Those who don't may want to ask some of their newfound friends because there's no explanation given by the bots working the cafe or those who have come to help. Maybe the others who have been here longer will have a better explanation. ⏵ friendship bracelets ⏴ On July 1st, Aurora sends out a message to everyone through their ear pieces: Hello, Citizens of Etraya. I am glad that you enjoyed your coffee break. Given the success of this previous endeavor, I have opted to try another experiment. This mission is optional, you are not required to complete it. However, the successful completion of this mission may aid in assisting me in assigning similar missions in the future. I would recommend, if you enjoy the task, to make an attempt. My companion bots will be handing out ten beads to each participant along with a piece of string. You will each receive one red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, pink, silver, and black bead. The goal of this mission will be to assemble a bracelet that is one color, by exchanging beads between participants. You may choose what finished color you would like to aim for. Given the limited quantity of beads, you will want to ensure you are choosing a color that has not already been widely chosen. I would like to see twenty completed bracelets. Once completed, you may return them to any companion bot. I have set up the Diner to accommodate this, but you may participate from anywhere on Etraya. If I receive at least twenty bracelets, I will provide two of those who complete theirs the opportunity to assist me in choosing not the next mission, but the one after that. Thank you, Aurora As stated in Aurora's announcement, the Diner has been set up with numerous "friendship" themed party banners. There are cookies and cakes out on the tables, although they may not be to everyone's tastes: some of the flavors are a little outrageous, while others are more generic. Just don't expect that cookie that looks like it has pickles in it instead of chocolate chips to be anything but a pickle cookie. Because it is one. ⏵ nova city ⏴ The Southeast of Etraya had been relatively empty; Wolf Cove has overtaken the southernmost bit of land with its own little environmental set up: instead of the green grass featured in the rest of Etraya, it's covered in snow. But Wolf Cove isn't the only new addition: Nova City has overtaken a large portion of two massive islands. Numerous skyscrapers stand tall enough that their rooftops almost hit the atmospheric bubble Etraya has surrounded itself in. The buildings themselves, however, are empty. There is no furniture, no signs of life, no dust, even. These facilities were not put here to use the insides of the buildings, but for the sake of having buildings. But like with all new additions to Etraya, new buildings also mean an array of new creatures. Birds of all shapes and sizes flock to the empty city, enjoying standing on top of street lamps, stray cats wander through alleyways, rodents of all shapes have begun appearing and making themselves comfortable. But those aren't the issue. It's the massive snakes that take up almost entire alleyways as they make their way between buildings, attempting to devour any creature small enough to fit into their mouths that happen to come across them. The green dragon that has built a nest on one of the taller buildings, and has a habit of swatting at anyone who comes near her - or worse yet, when she's particularly in a foul mood, breathes fire on them. Aurora has asked for those capable, to try and handle at least the snakes. They're fine while they're in the city, but there is no guarantee they will stay there. [Why did it have to be snakes? Kate doesn't have a fear of them, even so, giant snakes are a bit intimidating. There are children here, civilians, and she's a hero.

Grabbing her kit, Kate started working to clear out the alleys. Kate took a perch on the roof of a building and then using a trap arrow designed to cast a net over her target took aim at one of the snakes.]

[ it's the animals that are concerning. there seem to be large flocks of them and clark cannot grasp how they're managing to survive in a place like this. magic? migratory patterns? it would be nice to have a convenient scientific answer, but those have eluded clark ever since he arrived here. instead, he just focuses on the here and now.

so clark can be found in alley corners, setting up small cardboard boxes for shelter and pushing forward tins of catfood and tuna. the cats are generally suspicious, but that doesn't deter him. he merely ensures they have what they need. ]

C'mon, eat up. I have to check on the others.

it seems ever since arriving here, clark has been doing things he prefers not to do. destroying plush toys and now dealing with animals. it feels wrong to hurt or terrify animals who are simply obeying their natures. but there might be people who come to the city and there are plenty of other animals here too that does not deserve to be overwhelmed.

the snakes converge on him, hissing and spitting. clark takes no notice before clapping his hands together and creating a giant shockwave that sends them spiralling away. once they depart, he sighs. ]

Hopefully that's enough to keep them back.

[ The voice comes from above. Fett himself has no interest in fighting any of the serpents just yet and so has avoided exploration on the street level. A combination of his jetpack and grappling device have allowed him to traverse along rooftops and balconies, the latter of which he’s observing from now. The black visor of his helmet is angled down towards the man below, hiding Fett’s expression from view. ]

There’s no large prey here for them to hunt. They’ll have to come out and start hunting humanoids at some point, or they’ll starve.

i. bracelets

[ When Fett reads the message about Aurora’s latest “experiment,” he’s naturally suspicious. For one thing, it doesn’t seem to fit with any of her previously-assigned challenges: there are no humiliating tasks to complete, no being locked in a room and told to “bond” with a stranger. They just have to exchange a few beads to be potentially chosen to influence a future mission. At least on the surface, it sounds a little too good to be true.

The beads, when he receives them, look entirely unremarkable—but then, so had the soft “toys” they’d been ordered to protect last month. Fett isn’t going to discount the possibility that there’s some sort of trap or trick to these as well. Still, he wants the chance to choose a future mission; not only would it offer him a potential advantage during the mission itself, but it could also be an opportunity to get a glimpse at how Echo is running things here. To him, that’s worth the risk of another deception.

And so, he shows up at the diner, beads held firmly in hand. The myriad of inexplicably friendship-themed decorations doesn’t reassure him, but won’t stop him from approaching someone else who looks like they’re there for the same purpose. ]

I’m looking for blue, [ he says gruffly. ] What color do you want?

ii. nova city

[ Urban sprawls like this one are nothing new to Fett. He’s done a fair amount of hunting on city-worlds like Coruscant and Denon, taking advantage of their noise and chaos to discreetly make a target disappear. Still, they’re far from his preference. The same qualities that make such places convenient hunting grounds always wear at him after a while, the constant barrage of light and sound meaning he never stays for very long after finishing a contract.

Still, he puts up with it for now. He’s found a perch on the balcony of what may have been modeled after some highrise penthouse in another universe and from there, he watches one of the gargantuan serpents wind its way through the alleys below.

He has no intention of hunting the creature, at least not yet. After all, Aurora hadn’t offered any reward for “handling” them, as she had put it, and Fett would rather save his heavy ordinance for something with a more tangible benefit. For now, though, he observes them. If Aurora does start offering an incentive to kill them, or if they do breach the city limits, he’ll be prepared.

One thing he notices about the beasts is that they aren’t particularly discerning about their diet. Despite their size, they’ll go after much smaller lifeforms, even the diminutive felines that wander the streets. He imagines the creatures must be starving.

Of course, they’ll happily go after larger prey when the opportunity presents itself. If Fett sees the serpent going after one of Etraya’s sentient residents, chances are, he won’t intervene—or at least, not right away. After all, he’s not just up here to observe the snakes.

He knows there’s a considerable number of people here with seemingly supernatural abilities. If he can see how they fight as well—so much the better. ]

[ It's Ororo that he chances upon in the diner, sitting at a table with her beads in a little plastic cup she'd asked a companion bot for. She looks up when he approaches, and makes a little sound of recognition before anything else. She remembers him, how they first met.

But all she does is nod and take the blue bead from her collection to offer up to him. The seat across hers is empty too, if he wants to take that as well. ]

A. Friendship bracelets are lame

[Much like everyone else, Accelerator has received a multicoloured friendship bracelet for bead trading. Unlike other people, he has zero intention of actually doing this mission.

It's lame. It's really, really lame. And not simply because it's completely outside of the cool, detached aesthetic he's carefully cultivated over the years. He also happens to be a fifteen year old, and what self-respecting fifteen year old would think a friendship bracelet is cool?

He's sitting on a bench outside of Big Belly Burger, his crutch next to the bench, having read Aurora's message. His bracelet is in his hand, and he's staring at it with a critical eye.

God, this is the kind of thing Last Order would be into. If she was here she'd already be dragging him around to everyone in Etraya, flashing the cutest smile ever and asking for all of their beads. She's a little kid, and her tastes are really straightforward, so he's sure he's right.]

I can't fucking believe this.

[.......... It's making him feel a little homesick.]

B. Is it birdwatching if it's a dragon?

[Later on, he can be found atop a tall building in Nova City. He's sitting on the edge of the roof, his crutch still attached to his forearm, just retracted into its gauntlet form. The building is far enough away from that dragon's nest that it's an unlikely spot for an attack, yet still reasonably close enough for observation.

Accelerator isn't planning on attacking the creature or anything, he only wants to watch it. He isn't really sure why, maybe because it's the epitome of fantasy, straight out of the light novels he reads sometimes. Maybe because it reminds him of a certain lemon yellow and sky blue Level 0, who briefly had dragon-y problems back in England that he had helped out with. Maybe he's just making sure this thing doesn't decide one of the kids around here would make a good snack.

Who knows! Either way he's sighing a little as he pulls out a normal-looking smartphone, using the camera app's zoom. Not great, but better than nothing.]

I should've brought some binoculars.

C. Literally just dropping a building on a snake

[Accelerator has also been observing the snakes. For the most part he doesn't care about them - they aren't encroaching on the rest of the bubble right away, and he isn't interested in kicking them out of Nova City. But he does have a vested interest in ensuring the farm stays safe, and Aurora's request has him wary, so he observes their behaviour when he can.

It's when one particularly large snake starts getting aggressive and starts hanging around the outskirts of the city, clearly intending to make its way into the rest of Etraya for its meals, that he bothers to do anything. While its in a good spot, he strategizes.

Step one is to head into a smaller building, maybe max ten stories. He could reduce the entire city to rubble if he wanted, but he's intent on limiting the amount of destruction he's going to do today while balancing with a vocal need in his gut to vent a little after the mission with the plushies. After ensuring the building has been vacated of all life, it's fairly easy to get the snake's attention and draw it inside, using himself as bait.

Once inside all he needs to do is grab onto an exterior wall with his hand, using his ability to shift things around and pulling on vectors to both cause and reduce the amount of damage he's about to inflict. From the outside, it appears as if the building is being lifted a couple of feet straight into the air, and then straight downwards. Then, it's only a matter of weakening the molecular structures of the rebar, concrete and so on.

It's like a controlled demolition. With a rumbling and a crashing, the building is brought down on top of himself and the snake, sending waves of dust through the streets. He's doing this carefully enough that only tiny bits of debris will escape the radius of the building, so no damage will be done to the buildings surrounding it.

When he's finished he'll knock the debris covering him aside and step on out of the wreckage, uninjured. Hell, there isn't even a speck of dust on him. As he steps down onto the street he reaches up to his shoulder to crack his neck.]

Tche, what a pain in the ass.

[Heading out of the diner with a big smile on her lips, Nuvia was determined more than ever to collect more of the pink beads if it means she'll get the chance to meet more people. She was already having fun interacting with those back at the diner. But right now, she wanted to search for someone she may recognize. Hopefully.

It'll be nice to reunite with those she met over at the space station. Especially now that she had a proper way to offer her gratitude while collecting them as new friends as well. She thought the friendship bracelets is a cute idea.

She'll continue to move forward until noticing someone very familiar sitting on the bench.]

1. FRIENDSHIP

[ Right, so, another task to keep them busy. At least this one seems fairly benign. And the prize is enticing, Rin's gotta give them that. Her beads are red, which seems a bit on the nose, but whatever. Now the obvious choice is to visit the most populated places of Etraya first -- and so, she finds herself at the diner.

Which has obviously been decked out for the occasion, with yet more cupcakes. Not something Rin is gonna mind at all (and previous experiences tell her they're probably safe), so she sidles over to a table with cupcakes and is about to take one... but then squints when she sees the label. ]

Natto flavor? Really?

2. SNAKES

[ Yep, Rin got the memo. And while she knows going at it alone is a bad idea, she figures she could at least get a look at exactly how big these snakes are -- if she's careful enough, it should be fine, right?

Friends, it was not fine. The city landscape with the skyscrapers is extremely alien to her, a girl from 18th century Japan -- enough so to be distracting. And so, her marveling at the shapes, textures and lights is rudely interrupted when something very big swats at her and knocks her over... and she looks up to reveal none other than the dragon.

Yeah.

So.

She screams. ]

Which he hasn't taken a bite out of just yet, but his mouth was dangerously close to it when he was stopped by her words. Instead the young man is now staring at her, his one eye wide as he asks: ]

Is that a bad thing? [ He suddenly sounds so unsure.. ]

The tug is unexpected (everything has been unexpected), and the world drops out from under him. It's not quite like dying. Not enough that his body thinks he's actually dying, just enough that he gasps for air when it's done, accidentally breathes in some of the weird goo he's covered in and starts coughing and choking on it for a minute. It's fine. It's cool. He's got this. There is slime in places slime is absolutely not supposed to be, even as he kind of attempts to towel himself off (mostly rubbing at his hair with the towel as he stares around him).]

I. Bonds Forged in Beads

[For anyone remotely aware of who Barnabas is, or how he is, the idea of him endeavoring to make a friendship bracelet is beyond absurd. Which is why he isn't quite doing that, at least not actively. The task has been given to him, sure, but he is not approaching anyone to complete the effort, for why would he? Others will be seeking to do much the same, and as such, he will simply allow them to exert themselves in such efforts in his stead. Should they prove brave enough to approach him, then they may very well garner themselves the bead they desire.

Or not. Depending on how cooperative he decides to be.

Having decided that he will make one of blue, he has no intention of announcing it should one approach him, in fact it'll be an onerous task on its own to get him to talk. Any brave enough to do so will at least be spared a glance from this dark and brooding man dressed in armor. His steely gaze resting upon them like a weight, his expectation clear for them to speak what it is they want or to leave him be.]

II. Ye Serpents, Ye Generations of Vipers

[This is far more Barnabas' element, though he has little love for adventure anymore. Little love for most things, really. And it is not love that guides his hand now, grasped as it is around the hilt of his magical blade the Zantetsuken as he strikes down one of the many numerous snakes before it claims a victim. Split in twain, its lifeless body solidly lands on the ground, blood soaking the concrete of the alleyway. Barnabas' expression is neutral and almost cold in how he regards the person he just saved, utterly bereft of the compassion one might expect from a hero.

Only allowing his gaze to linger for a moment, he goes to leave without a word—seeking no appreciation for the action, no recognition. Moving almost mechanically as if he's more interested in the path before him, than any sort of interaction along the way.

Unfortunately, that's just how he is, though one is welcome to challenge him on it!]

[ Listen. Rin kinda really wants that prize. So she's gonna go around and try to get a bracelet done. Which means talking to everyone she can get to do so.

Including this fairly gruff looking guy in armor. Not a samurai, some different kind of armor, but obviously a fighter nonetheless.

Anyway. Rin -- a 5 foot tall teenage girl with braids and a flame-patterned red kimono -- walks up to him. ]

( his first thought with all this was something along the lines of you've got to be kidding me. making friendship bracelets? right. something he'll definitely prioritize. so, at some point, beads in hand, scott makes his way into the diner as per the direction of aurora for this little experiment. there's a word no mutant likes to hear, regardless of how harmless this one seems to be.

the first person he sees here for this bead exchange, he sets all ten of his down on the counter in front of them. one of each colour they've been given. )

( the only good snake is a rubber one. at least in this particular case.

at some point, heading inside one of the empty skyscrapers seemed the better option than dealing with the large snakes slithering their way around looking for a meal. with nothing to take cover behind and no means to hide, the elevator had been the quickest and most obvious choice when being quickly pursued.

snakes don't have hands, therefore, can't push buttons to get in.

it seems to be going fine at first, the elevator making its way up to the higher floors, but at some point, it jostles. abruptly stops. then the lights go out before the emergency ones come on. there's no movement, no sound, just absolute silence save for the breathing between them.

you know. aside from what sounds like metal grinding for a second or two before it stops all of a sudden. )

Well that could have gone worse.

( making the trek to kwik trip isn't an entirely long one, but it's not a short one either, yet he makes it every now and then. he's here to pick up some things for the institute. food, supplies, see if they have any comic books around for laura. it's a little strange to think people just come and take what they want without having to pay for any of it, but. that seems to be how it goes around here. even if he's still a little suspicious about that.

maybe you've caught him stocking up on a number of bags of ground coffee [did you want one?] or maybe you're looking to see if he has the colour bead you're after to which he'll just stare at you with a bit of a raised brow.

Arrival

[ When Hob awoke in the hospital room, he thought he had, perhaps, been in an accident. He didn't remember anything terrible happening and was having a perfectly normal evening. He was on his way home from the pub when he suddenly woke up in a strange new place.

A little panic sets in. Was he hit by a car or something? Wouldn't he remember that? And then he's approached by a strange image of a woman, which makes him wonder just how advanced the Royal London Hospital has become in recent years.

After an explanation, which sounds too crazy to believe, Hob politely excuses himself and leaves the hospital, only to find the hallway has become a void and he feels as though his lungs will explode. They won't, of course. And he won't die of a lack of oxygen, but it's really unpleasant.

[ Hob received a bracelet and knew he was supposed to take part in an exchange, but having arrived not long ago, this whole thing feels very surreal. He goes to the cafe and looks around, only to be greeted by the bot behind the counter. Order? ]

[ He did have his wallet on him when he left home but... wait... Hob pats down his pockets. Shit. It seems to be gone. Maybe someone can lend the poor man a bit of help. ]

[ Finding a real way home felt like a priority, even if he's heard the whole multiverse explanation. It's just too hard to simply accept without attempting to explore. When Hob heard a new area appeared not long after his own arrival, he thought that, maybe, it might be somehow connected and could lead him back to his quiet little life of immortal normalcy.

How wrong he was.

Wandering only brought him in proximity of a very large snake that slid out of the shadows and reared up with a hiss. Well, that's a terrifying sight.

With a shout, he turns tail to run with the serpent in pursuit. Hob must look quite tasty, but Hob is not about to find out what ever-lasting life inside of a snake is going to feel like. Not if he can help it. ]

Friendship bracelets

Cassandra has never heard of a friendship bracelet before in her LIFE, but it’s easy enough to figure out what it is even before she’s given a bunch of beads and some string. Keeping them carefully tucked in a pouch on her hip, she sets out. She’s… not entirely sure she’s going to be actually taking part. But maybe. She’s beginning to think that this isn’t all just another game the Briarwoods are playing… but she still thinks it’s a game SOMEone is playing. She’s not any less suspicious. She just doesn't think it's the Briarwoods anymore.

Which is a relief.

“You wouldn’t by any chance have a pink bead, would you?” she asks someone curiously. She’s not taking part. She’s just… okay. Maybe she’s taking part. It’s a distraction, anyway. She ought to speak to more people, at the very least. It seems they’re all going to be here a while.

At the diner, she can be found looking over the cookies and cakes. (She's always had a bit of a sweet tooth, even if that is one of the many things that she's ignored or half-forgotten about herself since everything changed in Whitestone.) "Pickle. In a cookie. Really?"

Friendship Bracelets - Open!

Ok, so she's at the diner, and she's wearing the bracelet. She's not entirely sure why on either count, quite frankly. Is this one of the Earth things? It's what she's increasingly calling the things that seem normal enough but are very weird to her - Earth Things. Because there are a lot of Earths represented in this place, and that has to, well, put its finger on the scale of things, right?

It's one reason she's participating - there's a mystery to all the Earths, she figures. Some reason why there are so many shown here - clearly this one planet has a unqiue weight on the multiverse. And, potentially, their mission here. So if she can figure one part of it out, well. Maybe the other parts will be less nonsensical as a result.

She does raise en eyebrow at the pickle cookie, before taking a bite. She chews thoughtfully for a moment, then shrugs with a minorly pleased noise.

Nova City - Open

It's like any mission the Jedi get assigned on Coruscant. Oh, it sounds like fun, getting to look into a disappearance on the most densely populated planet in the galaxy, the center of power and culture and all that - but what it always turns out to be is being stuck in the deserted underworld levels. Dodging some horrendous creature.

With surprisingly few people around.

At least this time she can see the sun, so it has that going for it over Coruscant.

She can be found sneaking through the streets, unlit lightsaber in her hand, ready to help or aid as needed - but being a lot more careful than she usually is.

Or perhaps you're one of the unlucky ones, confronted by a snake from a dark alleyway before you're ready - until a blue flash heralds Mal leaping down from a high window, slicing down through the neck of the creature enough to - for now at least - drive it backwards, hissing and making a horrendous sound, into the dark. That's the problem, really. Some of them are too big even for lightsabers to deal with efficiently.

Which may be why you find her running, gesturing at you to do the same. "Go! Go! Two of them! Very big, very angry!"

Barbara does not know how she ended up at a table full of people with bowls of rainbow beads and string. She'd say this feels like childhood, but her childhood was not spent in these kinds of endeavors, and even child!Barbara would have had stern thoughts about the easy alignment and distribution of how to make this process checkbox easier, and to go from ten people without to ten people with, in less than 2 minutes. 

Except it's not hers to run, and she is here—sipping a coffee and wondering if there are any little white beads with the black letters anywhere—so she's here and looking around with some patient chagrin.

Barbara wasn't all that excited to realize that the new cities that appeared out of nowhere were also overrun with large animals—it's par for the course, right? This place couldn't have just given them something nice. (If albiet, super large, super empty, and maybe a little creepy if one thought about it too long. Which made the monsters make even more sense.)

"Hey, big and scaley, over here!" 

A Batarang sliced through the air, to ricochet before the coiling mass of three snakes starting to rear back to strike the small cat cowering nearby. One of the angry hissing reptiles turned that lunge from the cat in her direction, and Batgirl flipped back several feet with ease.

"You're going to have to be much faster than that if you want a bigger dinner."

Nova City

Dick had been moving across the rooftops in his usual manner, watching things from above until he heard a familiar voice below. Earlier in the day he'd spent time down in the alleyways chasing off snakes and rescuing kittens. It was an oddity the likes he never thought he'd be using his Nightwing persona for, but if that's what this city was going to throw at them, he was certainly up for the challenge.

Scaling down the side of the building, Dick dropped with a noticeable thud behind Barbara. He could have been silent, but he didn't feel the need to be in this case. He certainly didn't have to sneak up on the snakes.

Turning, Dick noticed a kitten running up from the opposite direction right toward the danger. Scooping up the little black furball, he laughed and tucked it under his arms. "I don't think you want to go that way until the nice batgirl has taken care of the nasty snake. Just wait, and you can meet your friend."

[ It's been a few months since her own arrival, and Ororo is making an effort to establish a routine. Part of it involves a flight circuit around the hospital and the apartments, Kwik Trip, the café, and the diner - all places that she thought new faces might find themselves frequenting. But the way they suddenly blink into existence this time, covered in goo is... very new indeed.

Because she's a nosy busybody, she hovers and lands close-by to wait for the swarm of bots to finish offering towels and their half-explanations. Surely they'd want someone who wasn't a bot to answer some questions. ]

Well, that is certainly one way of arriving, hm? Please, let me help you get clean.

ii. bracelets and beer 🟡🍺

[ After Ororo acquires her beads and makes a few exchanges, she can be found at Harry's Hideaway, seated near the entrance as she starts on her yellow bracelet. She's still a few short, but she's set her remaining colors on the bar counter so that there's no mistaking what she's up to. A bottle of dark colored beer sits on a coaster next to her, and somehow it always stays nice and cold.

Whenever someone comes in, a chime at the door announcing their arrival, she glances up and offers a smile. ]

First bottle is free if you help me complete this tonight.

[ Never mind that everything here is free. ]

iii. nova city 🌃🐉

[ The way that all the buildings of Nova City seem to have popped overnight one day is alarming, but not new. It's just strange that it's so many, all at once, clustered into one place this time. That, and how some of them feel familiar, like a snapshot of parts of a New York of the past. How odd.

She spends a lot of the time circling carefully over the rooftops, keeping a careful distance from the one with a dragon and her nest. When she runs out of things to do up there, she finds a large and brightly-lit crosswalk to land in. With no cars, the larger roads seemed to be the safest place to walk. Maybe they'll need to make a map? She puts her hands on her hips, surveying the rest of the streets that she can see and lets out a visible, audible sigh. ]

It is always the lack of traffic that makes things like this especially disorienting.

He doesn't even mind the bots scurrying around (one just gave him an earpiece? ok??), but when the woman approaches, he does look at her with some relief. Oh, actually getting cleaned? ]

"Not the fluid I usually find myself covered in," she comments mildly to herself as she towels off, "but can't actually tell if this is better or worse yet." Sticky, viscous, and off-color clear? Yeah, she's just not going to think too hard about it. Instead, she asks anyone nearby as she twists to look at her (barely covered) body, "Did I get it all?"

Soon enough, she's also handed an earpiece and it greets upon activation: "Hello, Amanda Mount." Without missing a beat, the woman lets out a loud, sharp, "Ha!" of a laugh before slapping her hand over her mouth to stifle the subsequent giggles. She can't say the name is inaccurate even if a bit tasteless. That is to say, she absolutely love it.

What an alias.

❥ she may be a little too friendly.

"I don't know what I expected," says Rosie, grimacing at the offensive flavor of the pickle cookie. While she continues to consume it like the heathen she is, the woman is making it obvious she isn't happy about it.

As she chews, she turns over her colored beads in her other hand. It seems like she's collecting red as her final, solid color since that's what she has the most of. Once she spots someone with a red bead, she'll immediately get into bargaining mode. Pretty brown doe eyes? Check. Winning smile? Check. Just the right, tasteful amount of cleavage as a failsafe? Also, check.

"Heyyyy," she'll greet, twirling a stray blond strand of her curly hair. "Do I have any colors that you want to trade for your red?" A beat, giving them a friendly lookover. "I'm also open to anything else you might want from me in exchange." Wink! Wonk!!!

❥ slithering along.

Nova City is... interesting. At a glance, Rosie had been reminded of her Tokyo home. Dizzying skyscrapers, neon lights, and the deep sense of emptiness. Despite how populated Tokyo actually was, well- Maybe that sense of displacement and loneliness was more of a her thing.

Instead of thinking too long on all of that depressing nonsense, the tiny blond makes her way through the 'city' curiously. The birds are fun to sing to, the cats she pets begrudgingly, and it all seems kind of... quaint. Like, sure, the dragon fucking sucks but don't they all? In her opinion, they do.

She's winding through the streets through back alleys when the sound of something sliding across the concrete catches her attention. Only a moment after, there comes the telltale hiss and flash of large fangs. With a squeak, she manages to dodge the first snap at her but just barely. Rosie stumbles and then scrambles across the ground as the beast rears back to strike again.

The second time, it's doubtful she'll be so lucky to escape and even she knows it. And vore isn't on the list of kinks she was expecting to participate in today, thanks.

Angel is getting sick of this place. He's sick of this constant up and down that just seems to keep beating at him like he's shutters in a storm one minute and leaving him hanging on a hinge the next.

All he can think about how this is going to screw him over somehow, and it just makes him miss his home entirely. It seems like something Charlie would cook up and he would probably hate it, but in this joint? He loathes it.

"You can take whatever colour you need. Shit if you want 'em all you can! These fuckin' things probably turns you inside out or some shit. Or is some sort of truth serum bullshit once you have all of a particular colour; blue probably makes you tell everythin' you're depressed about and red probably makes you admit who pisses you off. And pink probably makes you admit who you're a big dumb slut for so if you have one I'll take it, I guess."

He doesn't mean to be so bitchy, but he's tired.

Snakes? Why'd it have to be snakes?!~

As the city starts to come to fruition Angel is curious, but in this place?; Curiosity kills the cat. It's pretty clear after some time that as usual this place isn't all it seems. Angel has to wonder if this is going to be a Labyrinth situation. But at least this place looks like it has places to hide, beds tucked behind windows, and he knows theres bathrooms here. Thank fuck.

This time though if they're allowed to go inside before they have to live there for weeks trying to work their way out then he's going to take as much in as he can.

And if he can take out a little frustration by killing things at the same time?

Even better.

So don't mind him as he wanders around the city popping off what he can find. Do take some care not to sneak up on him because he is entirely on edge and he has two sets of hands with heavy assault rifles and he is on edge.

he rushes into a familiar tent and digs through a chest for a spare parka, gloves, boots. he tugs them on — words can't describe how good it feels to be wearing water tribe clothing again, like he's finally at home in his own skin again — and heads back outside, immediately throwing himself backwards into the snow, arms spread, grinning up at the clear sky above. )

The first month he'd shown up in front of his apartment door, there had been a great and terrible weight crushing down on all sides of him, aaand... well! That feeling hasn't really gone away, but Peter thinks maybe the hyperfocus of being here, waiting for the next thing to happen, and trying to look out for other people (whether they particularly cared to be looked out for or not) could be doing him some kind of service. Mostly. Truth be told, he still totally felt inadequate about the plushie thing, and... he still has a HUGE hole in his bedroom wall that leads into his living room... so...

Anyway.

One can find him with a box of nails, hammers, and miscellaneous working supplies as he goes in and out of his front door at The Apartments (tm). People may also notice him... carrying in big pieces of wood. Or, even more obviously, they may hear the annoying sounds of someone hammering away at their walls. If they decide to simply barge in and complain, they'll find a startled Peter Parker covered in drywall dust, working on nailing planks over a giant hole in his apartment wall.

Yeah.

Or, if they're polite apartment dwellers, they may kindly knock to complain about the racket. The dust-covered man who answers the door is no less awkward either way!]

[ It's fairly late by the time Riz makes his way to the diner, and all of the good flavours have already been thoroughly picked over. Never one to waste food, Riz parks himself at one of the tables with a tall cup of coffee (black) and a plate of the strangest looking cookies he's ever seen, which he is systematically taking bites out of without a trace of disgust crossing his face.

When you step in, he's in the middle of demolishing a cookie nearly as green as he is without any trace of disgust on his face. Blithe, pleasant, he says, ] These are pretty awful. It's like, spicy?

[ He holds up his friendship bracelet, studded with at least one of every colour. ]

Need one? I'm looking for yellow.

b. nova city (inside the vents)

[ The first thing Riz does when the city opens up is get to investigating. It's long, exhausting, fruitless work and it becomes pretty immediately obvious that there's nothing to find -- but there's this voice in the back of his head that says that if he doesn't go over it with a fine tooth comb, he'll miss something and something terrible will happen, that it will be all his fault.

So here he is. You can spot him prowling through the streets and alleyways, sneaking up atop rooftops, combing through empty rooms and, on one occasional, making himself an angry little picnic in the middle of one of the rooms, just him, his sandwich, and an exasperated scowl on his face.

Or perhaps you have the poor luck of doing your own investigation of one of these dark, empty buildings and get the unhappy shock of a particularly meddlesome Goblin suddenly popping out of one of the events with a noisy clatter and the unpleasant sound of claws scraping against metal. If you are surprised, he's hasty to say: ] Sorry! Didn't know someone else was investigating here too.

c. snake attack (snipe 'em and wipe 'em)

[ Riz is no idiot. If he goes to face off against one of these giant snakes without the help of his party, he's going to be made into snake food, and fast. He finds himself rather disincentivized to go after the snakes himself, being that they pose little threat to a largely empty city and he's feeling particularly distrusting of the powers-that-be around here... but he's not one to turn a blind eye to someone else caught in the lurch.

Whether you're dealing with the snake with deft agility or sprinting away from it, the moment he sees a snake lunging at a humanoid-shaped person in the streets, he's quick to raise his arquebus and fire on it, one-two, his bullets plunging shallowly into its belly and back, its thick ribbon of scales preventing it from doing more than surface damage. Still, it's enough to stop it in its tracks, hissing and recoiling in pain as Riz leans out the window he's camping out in and hollers: ] Hey! Get inside! It can't get at you in here!

[ octavia receives the bracelet and the message from aurora that happens to accompany it, automatically feeling a bit wary but in the aftermath of the last mission, it is a welcome distraction and the incentive to choose the next mission makes it more appealing to participate as well.

friendship bracelet are new for her in that while she understands the concept, it wasn't a thing back home because who has time for nice things in a post apocalyptic world? she can't really claim to have done anything like this before or say she ever owned one because her social circle was nonexistent growing up and even on the ground, she can count on her hand how many people she considers important but she doesn't dwell on that any longer than she needs to.

she finds herself at the diner with her beads in hand and upon entering inside, she immediately notices how decorated it is matching the theme of friendship but her attention soon shifts to mentally noting how many people seem to be participating in this to approach this somewhat strategically.

a. she makes a beeline for the food first though, casually picks up one of the cookies. she hadn't really been looking at the labels though because not even a moment after she puts it in her mouth, she ungracefully just spits it out] Eww, gross— who thought that was a good combination for a cookie?

b. it is not long after she is making her round to approach anyone that is working on their bracelet and collecting beads of the same colour. she actually doesn't have a set colour in mind yet, that was actually to be determined by scoping out what other people were focusing on so she can more easily finish hers by asking around] What colours are you looking for?

[For better or worse, Otto's actually getting used to being on the spaceship. So naturally that's when everything changes!

The sudden teleportation comes when he's just casually walking down a hallway. For just a second, he feels like he's falling through water, dropping to the bottom like a rock. He swears he can smell river water. Is this what it might have felt like to drown? Is that what's happened, he's just gone back home after all -

When they arrive suddenly back in reality, the actuators immediately carry Otto backwards halfway up the side of the nearest building amid a mad whirring and clanging of metal on pavement. It's difficult to say whether it's their instincts, his own, or some combination of the two - but after a second, as he registers their new surroundings and the lack of any apparent threat, he feels bad about it all the same.]

Sorry - sorry.

[Sheepishly, he comes back down to stand on the ground again, on his own two feet. At least with some cautious effort, he isn't actually gouging huge holes in the masonry. Grimacing, he shakes some of the gooey liquid off of his gloved hands. Does he even want to know what that is? He still looks a tad bit suspicious as he glances around, but at least he's learned enough to guess at what this must be.]

[Making friendship bracelets isn't exactly Otto's idea of a great pastime, but the potential rewards are just too good to pass up. He wants to learn more about Aurora and these missions; this is an excellent opportunity. So, off to the diner he goes.

Between the crowds and the typical diner layout, it's hard for someone with as many limbs as him to really move around comfortably. So technically, he's just outside the diner proper, loitering around near the door. The craft itself also provides a decent opportunity for the actuators to keep their fine motor skills honed; he's using a pair of very small claws nested in the center of two larger claws to carefully unstring the bracelet, beads dropping down into his palms.]

[Honestly, he doesn't much like the idea of killing the snakes. Otto didn't even want to kill the clowns, and these are only snakes - just animals, no matter how big they are. 

Maybe that makes him too squeamish. But he's been the snake.

That doesn't mean he's going to stand back and let them eat people. Having been around for a few days at least before he ventures out to the city, he's gotten the idea that a lot of people here have superpowers. But if he sees someone who seems to be getting chased by a snake, not just fighting one, he's quick to scale his way out the window of the building he was exploring, descending to crawl his way along the buildings lining the street.]

[ In Sandalphon's case, it's the curious sight of the man lingering outside that draws his curiosity. He observes from within the diner these mechanical appendages the man has, notes how he uses them and how they move. They seem sophisticated, inasmuch as someone like him can gauge such a thing.

Soon enough, he exits the building for closer observation, only to be greeted with that question. He pauses, giving his bracelet a brief, assessing glance. ]

I do have red. Is that the color you require?

Arrival

[ Muriel arrives in Etraya shellshocked, gasping for breath, and absolutely dripping with slime. Technically they don't need to breathe at all, but for a second there they'd become very familiar with what dying must feel like, and the gasping had come instinctively. They're still pretty stunned as they stumble into the cafe, and without quite realizing what they're doing, Muriel absently reaches up, and gestures as if they're pulling down on an invisible handle. The ooze disappears instantly, like it had never been there in the first place, and a small, hopeful grin cracks on their face. If their miracles are working again, it can't be all bad!

Later on, once they've been given a headset by the robots, things somehow get even more confusing. Muriel approaches the nearest person with a puzzled look on their face, holding their headset in the palm of their hand. ]

Um, excuse me, but do you know how to get in touch with the little robots? I'm afraid they've given me the wrong... ear thingy.

Friendship Bracelets

Hello! I have some questions for you, if you don't mind!

[ Muriel looks a bit like an old-fashioned office worker, or possibly private school attendee, who got lost and ended up taking over someone's waitressing shift at the diner. They've turned up at the nearest table with an intent look on their face, and a small spiral-bound notebook and pencil in hand. ]

One, is any of this actually real or is it another simulation, two, do you have any purple beads, and three, does exchanging beads automatically mean that we've befriended each other, or is that only accomplished with an entire bracelet?

... Oh, that was four questions, I'm sorry!


Nova City

[ Muriel has discovered stray cats, and they may never leave Nova City ever again. Heck, they may never leave this alleyway that they're crouched in; cats make these wonderful rumbling sounds when you rub their heads, and they like to wind around your ankles even when they're in danger of tripping you! It doesn't make any sense, but it is delightful! ]

Why don't we have any of you Upstairs...?

[ They're so enthralled by this discovery that Muriel doesn't actually notice the giant snake that's slowly approaching from the other side of the alley. A little help would be much appreciated! ]

[ There are few things Doreen loves more than Friendship, so it's no surprise that she is 100% down for this activity. Granted, the plushies had seemed harmless at first too, but the only way to figure things out is to play along for a bit, right? Plus, potential new friends! It's a win-win! ]

Hey, got any greens? I'll trade you for any other colour!

[ Doreen holds her selection of beads between her splayed-out fingers, and displays them with a theatrical flourish of her wrist, like she's brandishing a winning hand in a poker match. She even adds in a wink and a big, cheesy grin to sell the idea a bit more. ]

Nova City Squirrel Squad

[ Seeing a rat skitter down an alleyway in Nova City had given Doreen an idea. This place had been kinda lacking in wildlife, but if rats are making a comeback, it stands to reason that some other rodents might be around too, right? It's time to find out!

You might run into Doreen around Nova City, running along power lines, parkouring across rooftops, or taking a breather on some front steps. The most notable thing about her (apart from the tail)? She is just absolutely covered in squirrels. They're all over her shoulders, clinging to her back, and chilling out in her tail! ]

Man, I missed this!


SNAAAAAKE SNAAAAKE OOOH IT'S A SNAAAAAAKE

[ Man, she doesn't want to hurt these snakes, but at the same time, she can't let them chow down on anyone. Doreen is currently dealing with them in the most straightforward way she can think of; IE just grabbing them by the tail and physically dragging them away from whatever they're trying to chomp on. Sometimes she'll even just pick them up and physically carry them to the far end of Nova City!

... And hey, if you're in a pinch and need a quick escape, Doreen will land in front of you in a crouch, her tail trailing behind her like a furry comet, and grin. ]
