( said significantly more like the thirteen-year-old child he is than the pretentious asshole damian generally acts like. he doesn't fight bruce off when he goes to take a closer look; mostly because damian wasn't understating it, this time. he had allowed drake's bullet to hit, knowing it may cause damage to ligaments and joints but also knowing how unlikely it was from the angle he was shooting at. walking and leaping from surface to surface has been mildly painful, but manageable. if it hadn't been, damian wouldn't have been able to keep himself up without a noticeable limp.

but they're not there yet. and he's haphazardly re-wrapping his ankle enough so he can shove his boot back on over it. tighten the laces. )

Unlike others I am familiar with, I recognize the importance of allowing myself to heal before I make injuries worse.

( he lets go of damian's heel and watches as he wraps it up and slips it back into his boot. as he takes the time to lace it up tightly. a very slight raise of a brow, he huffs a bit, licking over his lips. a fleeting glance away. )

Was expecting you to fight me on that a little.

( as he'd fought him on being here with him. on being robin with him. )

Are you planning to go out without me?

( the smallest, barely-there hint of a grin as damian pulls the laces tight before knotting them up high. )

Because I will follow you.

( it's said with the faintest, absolutely barely there touch grin of his own on his lips that nearly matches damian's before he's raising from his knee. standing there. looking down to... what damian's pulled out of his car so far. he doesn't entirely like it, but. if it keeps him busy... )

( just like he is right now: talking to bruce, while also pulling out numerous pieces from bruce's car. )

boots heavy as he goes, he makes his way for the elevator, a glance thrown to damian over his shoulder. )

I'll be back. Stay put.

( he almost, almost considers getting himself up to start following after bruce. damian had promised to tail him, after all. it'd be a shame to let him get away with leaving damian after telling him that he had to take it easy.

instead, damian turns his head to look back into the car. then looks over to bruce. )

Two hours.

( before he'll leave and go find him. )

( honestly, this kid. )

I'm just going upstairs.

( The Look he gives him through the gate of the elevator as he closes it. presses the button. and slowly begins his trip up.

upstairs is where he's headed and, more importantly, the kitchen that wayne tower has within it. granted, bruce isn't about to try and cook anything, no, but. he does go over to the fridge there. grabs a frozen pizza out from the freezer. looks it over. then starts the oven up.

he stands there. leaning against the counter. arms crossed as the pizza cooks. still... trying to accept that this is, currently his life. a kid from some other gotham that may or may not eventually become his own, being on another world entirely where he's meant to try and prove his own gotham's worth in being saved or spared. he wonders how alfred is, what he would say or think with meeting damian here, and what he would expect from him when it comes to his being some... figure to the kid. that, while he's not his father, he's still... some version of him. much as alfred had become that to him.

hm.

his absence lasts for a grand total of some forty-five minutes or so and, when he comes back down the elevator, the smell of pizza can be caught wafting through the cave-basement. he pulls the gate open. stands there for a moment. then makes his way over with a vegetarian medium-sized pizza in hand as well as two water bottles tucked under his arm. making his way to the work table there, he sets it down, along with the water bottles. )

( it's plenty of time to do some rearranging. damian doesn't carry many tools on him, but he knows enough about bruce wayne to know where he keeps his bits and baubles within his miniature cave. he doesn't stay sitting, but flits around wayne terminus a bit. gathers a few pieces, pushes open the doors to the batmobile, including the hood and the trunk, and starts rearranging it as best as he can on his own. damian's limited by his own small stature: he can only carry so much, but he manages alright.

by the time bruce makes his way back downstairs, damian has cleared out the area a passenger seat would have been, had there been one. the nitrous tanks have been moved - one still where the passenger seat should be, albeit lower to leave room for damian's seat, when he gets one - and the other behind it. the front panel has been removed, wires hanging loose as damian idly tightens a few bolts and removes a few pieces he considers unnecessary.

when bruce returns, his head tips up, nose flaring at the smell of pizza. )

I'm curious as to how the electricity here is still functioning, given how separate the islands are. I haven't seen any power lines either.

Underground is a possibility.

( he stares at the pizza left there, realizing after that maybe he should have brought napkins but... does he even have napkins here? )

Or Aurora has her own methods of powering places. The Manor seems operational as well and it's on its own island as well.

( who needs napkins. damian looks down to grease-covered gloves, and - starts pulling them off of his hands, setting them down on top of the car before he walks his way over to the work table where bruce has settled. )

Underground was the theory I wanted to test. The catacombs under the main island makes me curious as to how deep the water around the islands go, especially given how empty the rest of the planet is around where we've been placed.

( another theory he has on his list of things to test, later. for now?

damian's taking a piece of pizza, and shoving it into his mouth. )

( with damian helping himself to a slice of pizza, he does the same, albeit slowly and while watching him through the greasepaint that's nearly all come off by now. a glance over to the batmobile, he looks back to damian. takes a slow bite of pizza for himself. )

I've yet to see any sort of aircraft or watercraft around. For all we know, there might be other clusters of islands on this planet.

My batmobile can both act as a watercraft, and an aircraft.

( just a little bit of bragging. the bite of pizza in his mouth gets chewed down fast, before damian's chomping down on a second bite.

he was hungry. )

( the look he gives is one that reads good for you in the most sarcastic of ways. )

( granted, damian had better equipment back then also. he raises a screwdriver, points it up towards bruce. )

Speed is a concern we can worry over later. Mobility over the landscape of Etraya is more important.

( in regards to speed not being a priority for the moment. granted, the batmobile is capable of going pretty fast, but. sort of needs the nitro for that. regardless, even without, it's still fast. )

Would you rather stay here or at the Manor? ( a beat. ) For the day or two staying off your foot.

( spoken as if he's stood still long enough to settle somewhere. he has goliath in the cave, but goliath is fairly good at taking care of himself. damian takes another bite of his pizza slice, mulls it over while chewing. )

It doesn't make much of a difference to me.

( screwdriver down onto the work table, beside the pizza. but not too close.

damian needs that hand back, just in case. )

( he just. you know. hasn't really been without alfred [for long] before. )

( his brows furrow, eyes focused on bruce's own. it's the second time he's heard his name out bruce's mouth. the first time, it'd been muffled by his screams as he sank deep into the lazarus pit. it's less odd to hear his name off of his father's lips, but it's still. . . strange, in a way. hearing it from this bruce.

not that it matters much. the judgment on damian's face is clear regardless. )

And what will you do if another cat manages to catch you unaware?

( ugh. )

I can stay at the Manor with you. If you're so concerned.

( all he has left of the pizza is the crust now. which damian is--devouring bite by bite. )

Are you going to stay, or are you planning on taking off?

I'll stay while you're kept off your foot.

( that's what they're talking about, isn't it? )

( if bruce stays put, it's not as if damian has anywhere else he needs to wander off to any time soon while bruce is remaining in place. he'll need to check on drake, eventually. todd, too. but they can handle themselves.)
