(OPEN) TROLLEY REPAIR MINGLE?!
WHO: Anyone!
WHEN: Right after this post.
WHERE: Etrazim (Snake Island) and Farway, surrounding areas by the blue trolley line.
WHAT: Fixing the trolley car and tracks!
NOTES\WARNINGS: None so far, but users should write their CW warnings in their subject lines.
The blue trolley sits a short distance away from the train tracks, upright and derailed but at least not destroyed. The interior could use some help, and the exterior is covered in dings, and at least a few large dents in the outer shell, along with more scratches made by claws or talons. The worst problem is that it’s for some reason, located on Snake Island, making it inaccessible unless someone decides to brave the dangers of thousands of deadly snakes.
The rails are in bad shape too, considering that whatever giant rocks were being thrown around (and for some reason, show no trace of remaining), they’ve left craters along the tracks, making the rails uneven, and in some places, outright splitting the metal in half so the track is useless without some proper welding.
And there’s Jayce, in a clean white shirt with orderly buttons, but his hair is not nicely done as it could be. He’s standing nearby the station, which also has suffered some damage, but not in a way that would stop a train from running if it was fixed, and so it’s not a priority of his. He holds a little clipboard, a pen, and is writing down some notes when people begin to arrive.
“Hey, thanks for offering to help with this. There’s four tasks we need done.” Jayce clicks the pen, and turns his clipboard over to show who he’s speaking to the numbered list.
“One, clear the rubble and debris. Anything that could get in the way of the trolley should be moved at least twenty meters away. Two, any craters and pits need to be filled, with dense materials. No sand, no loose dirt. Three, we need an inspection of the tracks, and in places where it’s cracked, we need those to be cut out, reforged, welded back into place, and sanded until smooth. Finally, we need the trolley inspected, make sure the wheels aren’t dented, out of their alignment, or too loose, and then put back onto the tracks. Ideally, not on Snake Island. So someone who can “lift” it out of there, that’d be best. And if you feel like fixing the cushions or scratches, that’s fine, but not a priority. An ugly trolley car still moves.” Jayce gives half a shrug, and takes back his clip board.
“I don’t care how you do it, as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone, or make things worse,” and he gives a little ‘do what you will’ wave before he starts looking at the tracks that were split to assess how bad it is.
[OOC: I won't be tagging every thread, so feel free to post your own top levels and tag each other around!]

Wanna tell me while I do this? Promise I won't go digging into your brain.
(Eeeeeeeeh.)

[Because the longer he talks about it, the more he'll think about it, and now he's trying to guard where his mind goes a little more.]

(The sunglasses are to her face, and she's going to start moving rubris away from the tracks. Her TK, well, not amazing. She's probably the worst telekinetic in the list of mutants in Etraya, but Julian's been pushing her to practice, so. She's here, mostly for that.
Pink energy surrounds the pieces she's moving, and she shrugs.)
no subject
... Why's it pink?
no subject
There's no need to use gestures or anything like it, but she does anyway, if anything it helps her focus her intent, so her fluttering fingers lift the rocks before a swipe of her hand thows them to the side.)
It's just my kinetic signature. Pretty common. What were you expecting?
(Herself, Jean, Quentin, so, three out of the other five telekinetics in this place.)
no subject
Or sometimes it's also just blue.

(Look at her, asking questions like a normal person.)

The arcane is the inherent magic present in any world. It can touch anything, anyone. It's a force of nature, like the wind. Mages are people who can use and manipulate magic through the nature of their birth. Sometimes it's a byproduct of their parents, or environment.
[He raises an eyebrow, as if implying something, but otherwise doesn't say anything else about it.]
The full extent of it is still under study, since mages tend to keep it clandestine amongst themselves and other mages. But I'm a researcher of it, specifically.
cw... racism????? x-men themes??? i don't know how to cw this
Gee, can't wonder why.
(Let her guess, they're dangerous and scary, like she hasn't heard that one before. Although it does seem like their shit is up for grabs, differently from her own. Huh. Feelings undecided. Guess as long as he doesn't try to study them, what does she care.)
Any luck?

My partner and I developed a new type of technology that can harness arcane power for every day use. In my world, it's revolutionary.
[Maybe talking himself up a little much. But... he's proud of it. It's one of the only things he can be proud of, these days.]
no subject
Mhm.)
How does that relate to you fixing the tracks? I don't see anything sparkling in hues of arcane blue.
no subject
The trolley helps people get from one place to another easier. We don't have much in the way of helping people who have difficulty getting from place to place here, aside the trolley.
[Genuine altruism. No ego involved.]
no subject
But, interesting. At least, he wasn't lying about the every day use thing.)
I meant more, like how does that relate to your work, or even better, can you fix it?
(One thing does not make the other true.)
I'll see if I can get Hellion or Nate to help later. The boys are better telekinetics than me, so for the actual construction part, you'll want them, not me.
(And she also wants to popcorn that, if it turns out Julian shows up. Sorry. He's also bad with flatscans, and he cannot read minds.)
no subject
[You know, as if he doesn't have enough hobbies as it is.]
From bracelets to braces to bracers. But I've been working on mostly prosthetics here. A trolley car's new for me, but a wheel's a wheel, and as long as the electrics aren't damaged too badly, this should be up and running in a few days, given we've had so much help along the way.
[He lowers his gaze a little, with a hint of suspicion.]
Don't send them over if they're going to be troublemakers. Yes, I'm judging by the name "Hellion."
no subject
(If anything, she'll call for materials.)
If you say so, this is absolutely outside my scope of knowledge.
(Okay, but she has to laugh.)
Hellion? Very sweet man. Also, you are aware my name is Sophie Cuckoo, right?
(Nooooooope. To her, yeah. But also, noooooope.)
no subject
[It wasn't actually the Xavier school. It was more for children, not superpowered teenagers.]
But nothing came of it. I'll help with what I can.
I wasn't, because you didn't say it. Some of us can't read minds.
[A look.]
And a last name is a given thing. A nickname has a purpose. You didn't pick to be called Cuckoo any more than I picked being Talis.
no subject
(Listen, fair point, except... She kinda did. They kinda did.)
Oh. I could have sworn I had, sorry, my brain is kinda tired lately. Talis is a very nice name, though, rolls off the tongue well.
(A lot of people do give her shit for it, though, sigh.)
And that's not a nickname, they used to be more like codenames, and then we just started using it as mutant names. Hence why you got a message from Five-in-One, not Sophie Cuckoo.
no subject
Thanks, I got it from my father. [A joke.]
Nickname or codename, it's something he chose, and someone who picks the name "Hellion" sounds like someone who intends to raise hell regardless. If he can be well-mannered, he can come.
But also, it's a fresh start here, isn't it? You could go by whatever you want. You could be a Betsy Baker, or an Olivia O'Malley. What's the point in holding onto things that bring you down?
no subject
I'm going to be as nice as I possibly can muster because you don't know our world or the shit we go through, so I know you don't mean it, but hear me, because this is advice. Careful with that assumption.
no subject
How old are you? Really?
no subject
no subject
[Informs me of the difference between a teenager or an adult throwing a borderline tantrum over a single sentence from a stranger.]
no subject
(First of all.)
Second of all, my reaction is directly linked to the idea of 'changing what brings us down'. I'm not being brought down, but again. You don't know what brought my reaction, and I know you don't mean it poorly, so again, I'm being awfully nice. Drop it.
no subject
Thank you for your infinite kindness then, Ms. Cuckoo. Consider it dropped. If you don't mind, I have some pieces of rail to double-check.
[And he doesn't wait for a further response as he turns to leave.]
no subject
(She says it in the sweetest tone she can possibly muster, it'd be believable if it weren't for the situation.)
Tsk. Flatscans. Don't know why I even try.
(She barely tried.
Now she's the one leaving, decided strutting steps towards the opposite direction.)
