A Clash of Eikons - Semi-Open

WHO: Odin (Barnabas + Sleipnir), Bahamut (Dion), and YOU(?)
WHEN: 7/5 midday
WHERE: The expanse of Ochreward
WHAT: Just a couple of magical kaiju having themselves a lil duel
NOTES\WARNINGS: Mild magical violence, will update as needed

To the northern reaches of Etraya's bubble there is a long strip of land that is otherwise uninhabited. Ochreward is its name, and today it will serve as the battlefield for two giant Eikons. While their chosen arena should provide them ample area for this clash of theirs, that does not mean others would not see the towering forms of these magical beings as they bring sword and claw to one another. Their considerable size of over hundred feet would serve to earn them notice alone, but Bahamut's impressive wingspan that reaches twelve fold their height only encourages would-be onlookers in kind.

As would the spectacle of their magic and attacks.

With Odin's massive black blade cutting devastating arcs of unfathomable destruction towards his opponent, Sleipnir's hooves crackling with thunderous lightning with each step he takes upon the open air, and Bahamut's searing beams of purging light ripping across the sky as he likewise soars its expanseβ€”one might be hard pressed not to notice. Not to mention, for those more sensitive to magical energies, this is not unlike a hurricane of magic, dark and light energies swirling and clashing like a maelstrom without cease.

The wildlife in the area is also fleeing from the vicinity, not wanting to be caught in the crossfire.

Should one wish to watch the spectacle from a safe distance, or try to interfere with these giants, that is ultimately up to them, but the two seem rather focused on one another. No obvious concern is given for the destruction their attacks cause their battlefield with its otherwise underdeveloped state; they might not notice those who attempt to approach them immediately.

Though, there also was a network post regarding the whole thing, but not everyone is going to notice that when there's quite literally a clash of titans happening in their backyard.

(ooc: There will be a thread where Odin and Bahamut are fighting which will work as a reference point for anyone who wishes to have a TL on here to watch/interact with others during this whole thing, but also for those who wish to try to get involved please feel free to specify such with your TL so Ren and I can interact with it as well. If you want to try to plot anything specific please feel free to hit me up (discord is zanono/[plurk.com profile] ZornSable)!

Basically this is just a big kaiju battle mingle of sorts! There were bound to be some slap fights eventually!)

[The moment Joshua learns that Dion and Barnabas are to duel out here - and the moment he sees Clive's message telling everyone to stay away - he resolves to monitor the area to protect anyone who gets too close.

So when he spots what looks like three teenagers having a picnic in a place with a fantastic view - which, in Joshua's estimation, means they have no idea how far Dion's light can reach - he readies himself.]

I cannot let it happen again. For their sake...and for Dion's.

[He runs and leaps off of the rock formation he's standing on, and a moment later he transforms in midair in a brilliant blaze of iridescent flames - definitely visible at a distance to anyone who might happen to be looking in that direction, though he assumes all eyes will be on the combatants instead. With a cry, the Phoenix circles to build momentum and then flies with all speed toward the high place where the children sit. He intends to simply touch down and explain the danger to them, but as he approaches, he spots a stray beam of light slicing through the air toward them.]

No!

[He shifts, cutting out the intervening space to teleport between the two with fiery afterimages in his wake, and ends up facing the incoming attack. He brings up his shield just in time to block it, holding firm until this particular flare of light is spent.

In the midst of this, he feels something strange yet familiar, a shift in the surrounding aether. But he has no attention to spare for it until his job is done. Once it is, he turns only to see their picnic space abandoned...for but a moment or two, and then they return as if there was no interruption at all. And oh, that aether is familiar - but he knows for certain where Barnabas is, and it definitely isn't over here. Intriguing.

But not intriguing enough to follow up on just yet. He has to make sure they're all right.

So he circles around once more and then lands maybe ten feet from their picnic blanket, changing back into human form as he does. The elegant flames linger for a moment around him and then dissipate as he moves toward them.]

Are you well?

WHY ARE THEY ALL SO BIG

[There is a risk assessment that Sephiroth runs every time one of these fights happens. Not necessarily on this SCALE, but fights to watch- whether or not he's likely to get obliterated by being there. So far it's been fine. He'd be far more reluctant to be here in person if it wasn't for Popp and Gaia.

Ironic that he's one of the most powerful weapons Shinra's ever made and he's outstripped by two kids from other planets. The things they could do so casually, like fly and teleport, were things that were simply beyond him. It made things like this .. a little safer. Like for example, stray energy blasts being slapped aside from their target and sent in their direction instead; there's a flash of red and gold that he should be paying attention to, but the priority is getting out of the way.

Gaia handles the rest.

The ground isn't so hot that they can't make use of the same place again once the moment's passed, and the brief survey to make sure Odin and Bahamut are approximately where they were a moment ago is interrupted by that flash of fire again, and Sephiroth's attention diverts.

He knows Phoenix when he sees it, even when it's on such an immense scale just like the other two, and he freezes, watching the firebird to see if its trajectory looks hostile or not. Phoenix was one of the better Summons to handle, widely regarded as being a good creature, but that didn't mean safe, especially if called on by someone who intended to do harm. It's best to be careful.

And then it lands.

And turns into a person.

The ground shivers with the impact of distant explosions, and Sephiroth glances away from Joshua only momentarily to remind himself of where the other two are. Oh, he was asked something.]

Um.

[Joshua's brow furrows slightly in concern as he moves closer still.]

If you are injured, I can heal you. Can you speak?

[It takes a lot to get Sephiroth to actually stare. That means looking at someone, directly, on purpose, for more than a few seconds.

Joshua is stared at.]

It's-- I'm fine.

[As fine as he ever gets.]

I'm sorry, I ... were you Phoenix a moment ago?

[He doesn't sound, or look, like he's about to break into adulation at least, he looks completely and utterly baffled, as if Joshua is the most confusing thing he's encountered maybe his ENTIRE LIFE.]
ablazinggrace: (isn't it lovely?)

[Joshua has long since gotten over any discomfort he may ever have had with being stared at. Being a Dominant, and one known to the entire population of a whole province since childhood, will do that.

He's still a little concerned about the boy, though, until the question finally comes out.]

Indeed I was, and am. Dominant of the Phoenix, Warden of Fire.

[He places a hand over his heart and gives the boy a very slight bow of polite greeting, and then he gestures out toward the ongoing fight.]

Just as these two mighty combatants before us are Bahamut, Warden of Light, and Odin, Warden of Darkness. Otherwise known as Dion Lesage and Barnabas Tharmr. I myself am Joshua Rosfield.

[He leaves it there for now as an invitation for the teen to introduce himself as well.]

[Everyone likes to go on about how ~different worlds have different things~ but worlds don't align that closely without something hinky going on, and Sephiroth doesn't know what to make of it. He knows Barnabas' planet is so close to his own that it might as well be the same, albeit in vastly different eras; whether in the past or the future eluded him.

'Dominant' in this context means nothing. Another word for summoner, perhaps, but he's never heard of anyone becoming their summon.]

Wind. I suppose someone could claim non-elemental magic is 'light'... [But not darkness. It's almost absently added, sounding more of a distracted add-on than a real argument.] I've seen these beings on the battlefield before, but never seen someone become one. What spell allows you to do such, and at that size?

[Introductions are important, and it takes him a moment to process it. Everyone has a given and a surname, he just has the one. No-one had felt him important enough to give their family name to.]

... I am Sephiroth.
ablazinggrace: (we must find the truth)

[personal profile] ablazinggrace 2025-07-09 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I assure you, the Dominant of Wind is not among us, and woe betide us all should she appear.

[That's all they need, Benedikta Harman showing up to shatter whatever uneasy, if unspoken, truce they have going on with the Waloeders.]

Watch Bahamut closely, and you shall see the purity of the endless light that shines forth from within him. Only the light of the stars themselves seems kin to it.

[Joshua puts a hand to his chin thoughtfully.]

You have seen Eikons without Dominant hosts? How can that be? [He shakes his head.] It is no spell. It is who I am. The Phoenix resides within me, is a part of me. Its power is my own. And its size is as it has always been. What smaller Phoenix hails from your world, that you are thus both familiar and not?

[He gives the boy a small smile, not bothered even a little by the idea that someone might not have a surname. Plenty of historical eras existed in which most or all people didn't, not to mention that he can think of at least one culture that still exists today where no one does.]

Well met, Sephiroth.

The only other one of wind that I know of is Typhon. That's a she?

[...Well, okay, he could accept that monstrous things don't necessarily have the same sort of dimorphism humanity does, but he would have NEVER guessed.

He'd need evidence though if he was ever going to submit that as an actual fact. Just believing what he's told isn't always a good idea. Joshua has an odd way of speaking, but didn't people say the same thing about him all the time? It reminded him of plays fashioned after centuries past.

His attention shifts, to watch Bahamut begin what looks to him awfully like a variant of Mega Flare. It's not pointed in their direction at least..]

... Fair enough, but we'd call that 'plasma', not 'light'. Both the stars and non-elemental magic.

[The surname thing will bother him for a long time, but his lack of a family was a constant grinding ache he'd mostly learned to ignore. He had friends. That was enough. It had to be enough]

I haven't seen one without a summoner, but they're not.. something we become, just something we use, as you might a sword. We call, and they choose to answer, and the vast majority stand rather under twenty feet. Phoenix is one of ... fifteen or so that can be called upon, one of the eikons of fire, but far more versatile than the other, as it also plays an excellent supporting role. It's rare; I've never been allowed to handle it, but I was obligated to study it.

[And Joshua .. says he is Phoenix. That's .. hard to wrap his mind around.]
