A Clash of Eikons - Semi-Open

WHO: Odin (Barnabas + Sleipnir), Bahamut (Dion), and YOU(?)
WHEN: 7/5 midday
WHERE: The expanse of Ochreward
WHAT: Just a couple of magical kaiju having themselves a lil duel
NOTES\WARNINGS: Mild magical violence, will update as needed

To the northern reaches of Etraya's bubble there is a long strip of land that is otherwise uninhabited. Ochreward is its name, and today it will serve as the battlefield for two giant Eikons. While their chosen arena should provide them ample area for this clash of theirs, that does not mean others would not see the towering forms of these magical beings as they bring sword and claw to one another. Their considerable size of over hundred feet would serve to earn them notice alone, but Bahamut's impressive wingspan that reaches twelve fold their height only encourages would-be onlookers in kind.

As would the spectacle of their magic and attacks.

With Odin's massive black blade cutting devastating arcs of unfathomable destruction towards his opponent, Sleipnir's hooves crackling with thunderous lightning with each step he takes upon the open air, and Bahamut's searing beams of purging light ripping across the sky as he likewise soars its expanse—one might be hard pressed not to notice. Not to mention, for those more sensitive to magical energies, this is not unlike a hurricane of magic, dark and light energies swirling and clashing like a maelstrom without cease.

The wildlife in the area is also fleeing from the vicinity, not wanting to be caught in the crossfire.

Should one wish to watch the spectacle from a safe distance, or try to interfere with these giants, that is ultimately up to them, but the two seem rather focused on one another. No obvious concern is given for the destruction their attacks cause their battlefield with its otherwise underdeveloped state; they might not notice those who attempt to approach them immediately.

Though, there also was a network post regarding the whole thing, but not everyone is going to notice that when there's quite literally a clash of titans happening in their backyard.

(ooc: There will be a thread where Odin and Bahamut are fighting which will work as a reference point for anyone who wishes to have a TL on here to watch/interact with others during this whole thing, but also for those who wish to try to get involved please feel free to specify such with your TL so Ren and I can interact with it as well. If you want to try to plot anything specific please feel free to hit me up (discord is zanono/[plurk.com profile] ZornSable)!

Basically this is just a big kaiju battle mingle of sorts! There were bound to be some slap fights eventually!)

At a semi reasonable distance: totally responsible teenager definitely going home

[personal profile] miniroth 2025-07-07 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Sephiroth had not been lying exactly when he said he was heading home, it's just that this is on the way, sort of, in a very long six hour roundabout trip back to the apartment he shares with Popp and Gaia.

The sheer size of the combatants means he's carefully selected a location he's reasonably sure is WELL outside of the range of being suddenly stepped on or otherwise noticed by fighters THAT BIG, which should be safe. Probably. Mostly safe. Well in case it isn't, that's one of the many reasons he'd told his roommates about it; one can fly and the other can teleport and also this is awesome so they need to see it too.

What's one comparatively tiny black and silver splotch? It's fiiine.]

That's Odin. A very. Very big Odin. The other looks like off-color Neo Bahamut..?

[Surely not.]

You know them? [There's a deep voice that sounded like it came from behind Sephiroth. Turning around, he'll find a small black creature sitting in a tree, observing from a respectable distance as well of course. At the moment, his eyes have averted to looking at Sephiroth.

Odin...Neo Bahamut...is that the names of those fighting giants in the distance? One of them, the dragon, is apparently Dion according to the responses in Clive's broadcast.]

[ Shortly after Barbara starts playing pick-up sticks for Clive, she sends a message to the Family Chat. (Yes, it even includes you, Baby!Bat. It's almost Baby!Jay, but she promised not to use his contact for her own reasons yet, and he's been dutifully checking in to say he's alive and conscious as he recovers from his concussion.) ]

{ Etraya is apparently having its first of many large, magical Kaiju-like fights by people from the populace, in a far, deserted area on Ochreward. Two things to note while you're all weighing your options suddenly—I will be recording all of this downstairs, using what we currently have here and there to get better specs on our combatants and a better setup out there for the next one.

One, if you're headed out, I want to patch a live cam into whatever you're taking to get what will be missed. Two, if you're coming downstairs, you can only get in the door if you bring snacks and chairs, and swear not to touch any part of the desk on pain of death. }

That's right, Bat!Fam. Free for all in the Bat Cave.

[He's.. getting used to seeing blatantly nonhuman creatures out and about, so any sudden unpleasant reaction to Shadow appearing suddenly is firmly and utterly squashed. Clearly the hedgehog is intelligent, that's enough.]

Not personally. I know of them, they are ... eikons. What most people refer to as "summons", powerful beings under the temporary control of a summoner.

[He's not going to take his eyes off the fight aside from a quick glance to see who's speaking, the firepower they're throwing around requires being kept tabs on.]

People on my planet used to worship them as gods. Like this, it's easy to see why. I assume the people mentioned on the network are their summoners.

I've never seen a Bahamut nor Odin. So don't ask me.

[ She's got a selection of snacks from home. There's also a blanket that she brought to lay out whereever they decided to set up to watch. Despite the sound of her tone on the radio earlier, she's had an eager expression she couldn't quite hide.

...Well it is a bit true that she's concerned Popp and Sephiroth might get into a contest over stray fire, she doesn't actually expect them to do so when it's something very serious.

And despite her eagerness to watch, Gaia is keeping a sharp eye on the aether around them and in the distance to ensure they're get a lot of warning to escape if it becomes truly necessary. ]

I didn't expect them to be quite so... big.

Wait, they have names?

[A flame will just appear from a side, suddenly morphing into Ace.]

I thought they were just giant monsters someone had in a ball or something.

I've seen them, the Professor likes to put them in combat trials. I've never used them, my aptitude was for a different materia. But they're both much larger than they should be.

[MUCH larger. Neo Bahamut was immense, but still wasn't that big. And Odin..

Odin shouldn't be a fraction of that size. Were their summoners just that powerful, or was it a coincidence how similar they looked, and nothing more?]

Odin for example should only be a little larger than most humans, perhaps ten feet tall, not ... that.
miniroth: (pic#17183592)

ohey ace

[personal profile] miniroth 2025-07-07 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Of course they have names.

[It's a good thing he hears a voice before he sees a fire, or he'd be working on putting out the flames-- that's right, Ace said he was a fire man. A man on fire. .. A fire sprite. Something like that. Maybe all of it.]

There's many others, each with their own names. They're people.. I think. They choose to obey their summoner but I don't think they have to.

[At least it's a nice view. He's not relaxing, he may need to suddenly run for cover, but SO FAR, everything seems to be staying a decent, safe distance away.

So far.]

I don't think so, unless something's really different from the usual. Summoners aren't what they summon, you'd be looking for a human .. somewhere down in all of that supplying orders. The person on the network seemed to be talking about other summoners.

[Ace hums, and looks at the ground. From where they are, he can't spot a single thing but the monsters themselves, so--]

I can try and check if there's any, but wouldn't the summons hurt the summoners too?
miniroth: (pic#17183588)

[personal profile] miniroth 2025-07-07 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
[The downside of being a safe distance away. Spotting 100 foot tall monstrosities is easy. Tiny human summoners? Much more of a challenge. Sephiroth's not about to go looking.]

People are regularly killed by summons on the battlefield, I imagine here would be no different. I don't recommend getting close though, something that large may not even intend harm to hurt you. A misplaced hoof could squash a fire as easily as a tree.
thelightshines: (the stars)

[personal profile] thelightshines 2025-07-07 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
...A summoner. [It reminds him of those fantasy films he had watched. His mind thinking of a certain evil witch that could turn herself into a dragon. But this is on a much larger scale. And Dion isn't an evil witch, wizard, far as he's aware. He is going to talk to Dion about this later the next time their paths cross.]

There are other eikons then?
miniroth: (pic#17183600)

[personal profile] miniroth 2025-07-07 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Fifteen that I know of.

[There might be more, but he's never dealt with them. Secrets like Knights of the Round and Gilgamesh aren't known to the researchers who raised him, and thus not known to him either. But he knows the rest.]

The materia for these two ... are rather rare and very expensive. Only Bahamut Zero and Hades are rarer, I've never seen those even in simulation, only by research notes.

[ Popp has chosen to sprawl casually in a way that he can grab his friends and book it if the behemoths draw too near. They can still watch but maybe watching from a mile up in the sky would be safer.

He's trying to look chill and mostly failing. ]

They're both huge! It's like watching a castle square up with another castle!
miniroth: (pic#17102900)

[personal profile] miniroth 2025-07-07 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
You want to see an actual castle square up like this, I'll see if I can convince the powers that be here to give me Alexander's materia. It really IS a castle.

[A giant mechanical holy powered castle, but it counts.]

They're MUCH bigger than they should be though. Even Neo Bahamut's only the size of a small building most of the time. The power of their summoners must be immense.
thelightshines: (Because you lit up my world)

[personal profile] thelightshines 2025-07-07 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
...That's a lot. [It sounds like a lot to him anyway. And there could be more?]

So summoners still need something to call for them. [The earth shakes slightly as the giants clash. Shadow gripping the branch as his eyes return to watching the eikons. That's one hell of an explosion, maybe even made a crater bigger than what that red demon bird could do before.]

[The moment Joshua learns that Dion and Barnabas are to duel out here - and the moment he sees Clive's message telling everyone to stay away - he resolves to monitor the area to protect anyone who gets too close.

So when he spots what looks like three teenagers having a picnic in a place with a fantastic view - which, in Joshua's estimation, means they have no idea how far Dion's light can reach - he readies himself.]

I cannot let it happen again. For their sake...and for Dion's.

[He runs and leaps off of the rock formation he's standing on, and a moment later he transforms in midair in a brilliant blaze of iridescent flames - definitely visible at a distance to anyone who might happen to be looking in that direction, though he assumes all eyes will be on the combatants instead. With a cry, the Phoenix circles to build momentum and then flies with all speed toward the high place where the children sit. He intends to simply touch down and explain the danger to them, but as he approaches, he spots a stray beam of light slicing through the air toward them.]

No!

[He shifts, cutting out the intervening space to teleport between the two with fiery afterimages in his wake, and ends up facing the incoming attack. He brings up his shield just in time to block it, holding firm until this particular flare of light is spent.

In the midst of this, he feels something strange yet familiar, a shift in the surrounding aether. But he has no attention to spare for it until his job is done. Once it is, he turns only to see their picnic space abandoned...for but a moment or two, and then they return as if there was no interruption at all. And oh, that aether is familiar - but he knows for certain where Barnabas is, and it definitely isn't over here. Intriguing.

But not intriguing enough to follow up on just yet. He has to make sure they're all right.

So he circles around once more and then lands maybe ten feet from their picnic blanket, changing back into human form as he does. The elegant flames linger for a moment around him and then dissipate as he moves toward them.]

Are you well?

[ At this point in his life, Popp has not fought an entire walking castle, and was using this as a theoretical example and not a true comparison. He whips his head around to boggle at Sephiroth for a moment before returning his eyeballs back to the enormous beasts that could crush them all without batting an eye. ]

Then I'm really glad they're fighting each other and not any of us! I'll back you up if you absolutely need to get in on this, but...

[ It comes as no surprise to Dion that, upon his approach, Odin makes his appearance. Just as Barnabas said, that dark, horned figure looms as shadow above. Dion has witnessed this sight many times in his life, though never on a battlefield bare of soldiers to concern himself with the safety of. He only prays that others heed Clive's warning, that he might bend his focus to battle, to improving.

Surely, for their world, he must grow stronger. He must be better.

This thought has passed through his mind many times since arriving in Etraya proper. It motivated him in this course, much as it spurs his strides toward the tallest hill in the vicinity. He'd proposed this area for multiple reasons, one of which was the presence of the highest point in the vicinity. It's not enough to give his wings clearance, of course, but he will make do.

He crests the hill with the purposeful strides of a soldier and immediately springs as high as his dragoon legs can propel him. Light swiftly gathers around him, pale and luminous, building upon itself until he reaches the greatest height of his leap. With a burst of his aether, great leathery wings unfurl, and a swift beat of them draws his ascent further still.

Despite himself, despite trusting Clive will do his utmost, Bahamut still surveys the scenery. Barren, quiet of even wildlife. Good. His draconic head turns Odin's way at last. On this battlefield, perhaps he can show Odin what Ultima learned of him in the end. ]

Hm, that does sound more on par with what I've seen. Large or giant but not that.

[ Now that she's settled in, found a snack and drink among the ones she brought, Gaia's got her eyes locked onto the 'distant' eikons. It's an assessing gaze but also one that's probably familiar from whenever she's checking out those movements of 'aether', as she calls them. ]

I suppose they'll be starting soon. Surely they're not just waiting for eight or so people to just show up and challenge them.

[ You never know. ]

Joshua knows, of course, how careful Dion will be. He knows that Barnabas' precision is peerless. He knows there will likely be nothing much to worry about, so long as people stay a safe and reasonable distance away.

Since it appears people aren't really doing that, though, Joshua is here surveying the area in case he needs to step in and help anyone out. Combat is messy and unpredictable no matter how cautious one is, particularly at such an enormous scale. He has both seen and personally waged enough eikon battles to know this to be true.

Anyone who finds themselves too close for comfort (whether their own or that of a concerned Dominant) may encounter a third enormous creature - though not as enormous as the dragon and the knight - who takes to the air and makes a beeline for them. If their world has legends of a phoenix or firebird, that's exactly what this eikon looks like.

It circles above them once or twice and then descends low enough to hover in place some 20 feet above the ground, fiery wings flapping to keep it aloft. When it speaks, it does so in a man's voice with a polite but urgent tone, which appears to be coming from within the eikon rather than directly from its beak.

"You shouldn't be here, it's too dangerous! Please, allow me to carry you to safety."

Somewhere on the vantage they've chosen...

[personal profile] hammerbearer 2025-07-07 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
[ There might be a lot of people back home on the First that would be surprised to find Gaia participating in the audience of those collecting to watch the two giant Dominants square off.

Privately she has to tell herself they'd be right and she'd have once been among the first to say this is a bad idea. Whether it's for better or worse, Gaia has been influenced by Popp and Sephiroth (and her short time bonded to a curious dragon's soul in Kamurkia).

Visitors have come and gone and very occasionally they have had to dip to brief safety but all's well. The perch the trio of teens have chosen is high for its vantage and far enough away that she and the others with their skills combined can retreat through teleportation from any collateral harm. There's a blanket, there's a sizeable stash of snacks and it's a fairly nice day to watch a kaiju battle.

Gaia's willing to talk to people, can be caught enjoying a light snack and a beverage from the stash and following the fight itself. There would even be a moment in which she'd point in a direction shortly before a massive bird of flame- the Dominant of Phoenix- rises to the sky and begins to circle protectively to guard or rescue any onlookers. ]
